Abstract

The pandemic of Covid-19 has had an impact on education. Because of the presence of the corona virus, face-to-face teaching-learning activities have been hampered. One of them is the use of an online classroom in which teachers or lecturers engage verbally with students. The examination of speech function can reveal verbal interaction. The purpose of this research is to look at Speech Function in online Structure and Speaking programs. This study looks into: 1) speech function classification in online Structure and Speaking classes; 2) how speech function is implemented in online Structure and Speaking classes; and 3) why speech function is implemented in online Structure and Speaking classes.    The data for this study was gathered through qualitative research from the discourse of lecturers and students in online Structure and Speaking classes. Content analysis and Speech Function analysis were used to examine the data. The speech function can be used to evaluate 32 utterances in the Structure online classroom.  Statement has 56.3 percent, Question has 34.3 percent, Offer has 3.1 percent, and Command has 6.3 percent, according to the Structure class statistics. The data from the first question of the speech function of statement in the online speaking class is 100 percent accurate. It is because the inquiry is a form of experience-based self-opinion, and many claims require data to reinforce their answers. The second question is statement (67.8%), with command coming in second at 30.3%.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text (GIST) Strategy on reading the narrative text of the 2019/2020 tenth years of SMK YPIS Maju Binjai. This research conducted in SMK YPIS Maju Binjai, which is located on Jl. T. Amir Hamzah village Jati Utomo District of North Binjai Binjai.  In this study the sample is divided into 2 groups namely the control class and the experimental class. Each class consists of 32 students. The control class is a class that does not apply the GIST Strategy while the experimental class is a class that uses the GIST Strategy. In this research method is the type of experimental research which is one type of research which aims to provide an overview of the influence of variables x and y variables. The average value of the pretest and posttest the student's ability to control class was 64.4 and 67,2  with standard deviation value of 9.6 and 9,3. The average value of the pre-test and post-test the student's ability experimental class was 70,6 and 78,6 with a standard deviation of 6,9 and 7,5. Based on data normality testing it is known that the overall data both control class and experimental class data are normally distributed data. While the homogeneity of data testing is known that the overall data is homogeneous type. With the price of t = 64,3, r criticism known price at the level of 5% gained 3,65 then 64,3 > 3,65, then the hypothesis of a significant means of experiments conducted have an influence on the experimental group. So that the proposed hypothesis that there is significantly effect of Generating Interaction Between Schemata and Text (GIST) Strategy on reading the narrative text of the 20 19/2020 tenth years of SMK YPIS Maju Binjai”.

Abstract

The study is aimed at finding out the effect of social media on students’ vocabulary achievement. The writers choose the 2017/2018 tenth year students of SMA Swasta Persiapan Stabat as the subjects of the study. The population of the 2017/2018 tenth year students was 244 students. The writers took classes, namely X IPA-4 with 40 students and X IPS-2 with 35 students as the sample of the study and they were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught by applying social media, while the control group was taught without social media. The data got from pre-test and posttest was analyzed by using t-test. The result of the t-test showed that the value of t observed was 9, 34. The t observed value of 9, 34 was higher than the value of t-table 2, 00 and 2, 66. This indicated that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Therefore, the result of the study showed that there is significant effect of social media on students’ vocabulary achievement of the 2017/2018 tenth year students of SMA Swasta Persiapan Stabat.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of Self Talk Strategy on students’ speaking ability in academic year 2021\2022.  The type of this research is quasi experimental group. It is a research to know that the effect between two variables, there are dependent variable is using Self Talk Strategy and independent variable is students’ speaking ability. This research was done at Smk Swasta Swakarya Salapian in academic year 2021\2022. The population of this research was three classes the total of the students was 88 students. Sample of the research was taken by two classes, for experimental class and control class. Based on the data, the result of   in significance 5%, result  was 1,029 > 0, 3365 it means that there was a significance effect between Self Talk Strategy to the students’ speaking ability in eleventh grade of Smk Swasta Swakarya Salapian in academic year 2021\2022.

Abstract

This paper is purposed to find out the problems in speaking skills for English department student in STKIP Budidaya – Binjai. The speaking skill is the last position to cover up the four skills in English because speaking is the improving your ability to use four skills in English. Speaking needs some stimulation to attract the students speaks their ideas, opinion, or comments about something. The sample of the study is the third students in English department student, it is around 28 students. The data are collected through document by sound recording. The data analyzed by using the technique of analyze data. The result of the study is that it concludes that first question “What is the problem of speaking?” 10 students (35,71%) respond less of confident and 10 students (35,71%) respond less of vocabulary. The second question “How the ways do you practice your speaking skill?” 10 students (35,71%) respond watching movie. The third question “Do you agree that speaking is the most difficult to study comparing with another skills in English? And why?” 18 students (64,29%) respond yes, because it takes orally.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the effect of temporal conjunction mastery and students’ achievement in writing procedure text of the 2017/2018 eleventh year students of SMA Swasta Persiapan Stabat were divided into two classes. They were XI IPA1and XI IPA2. There are 60 students. That number then became the sample of this research. The design of the study was categorized as an experiment quantitative research. It meant there were two groups. They were experimental group that received treatment. This study was conducted by an experimental research. It aimed to measure the students’ ability on descriptive writing. Writing is one of four basic skills. And it is one productive skill in English. It is very important in studying English. The writers used the written test. The writers, as the learning input in understanding the nature of procedure text and the ways to teach procedure text for Senior High School Students effectively and efficiently. The data were acquired by using written test. The test consisted of two types; they were pre-test and post-test. After analyzing the data, the finding indicates that result of analysis was 3.50. It was found out that observed was higher than t-table or it can be said (3.50 > 2.002;α=0.05). It means that temporal conjunction mastery and students’ achievement in writing procedure text of the 2017/2018 eleventh year students of SMA Swasta Persiapan Stabat.

Abstract

This study was conducted by applying correlational study which aimed to find out whether the students’ understanding in WH-Questions significantly correlates to their speaking ability in expression of asking and giving opinions. The subject of the study was 36 students at the 2020/2021 eighth year students of SMP Swasta Harapan Bangsa Kuala. The essay test consisted of 20 items was used to obtain the data on the students’ understanding in WH-Questions and oral test to collect the data on their speaking ability in asking and giving opinions. Beside the instrument of essay test which was analyzed as valid by looking at that coefficient of tcounted (5.85) was greater than the ttable coefficient (1.69092) and also it was analyzed as reliable by looking at that coefficient of reliability (0.793) was greater than the rtable coefficient (0.2785); as well as through the technique of Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis that the correlation coefficient of 0.72 was located between 0.600 – 0.799. It means that the degree of the correlation was considered as high. From the table of this critical value for Pearson’s r, it was got that for the 0.05 significance level the critical value was 0.2785. The data showed that the value of correlation coefficient (0.72) was higher than the critical value from the table (0.2785). This means that there is significant correlation between students’ understanding in WH-Questions and their speaking ability in expression of asking and giving opinions. Therefore, the hypothesis of the study is accepted.

Abstract

This research was conducted to the eleventh grade students of of MAS Darul Al Muhajirin in the academic year 2021/2022. This was an experimental research which used two group pre-test and post-test designs. The sample of research was 40 divided by two classes, XI-MIPA 2 as experimental class and XI-MIPA 1 as control class. This research was conducted to know the positive effect of using ELSA Speak Application on students’ speaking ability. Based on the students’ problems such as students worked hard to produce the English expression, students pronounced the words of the expression in inexact way, student used wrong intonation and stress in sounding the English expression. Having analyzed the data of pre-test and post-test by using t-test, from the result of calculation, it was obtained the value of the t-test was 10,619. The degree of freedom is 38 (df =  because there was not df  38 in the t-table, so the writers decide to use df 40 since it was closer to 38 that df 30. The table at df 40 showed that the value of t-table ( was 2,02 for 5% and 2,70 for 1%. This result meant that the value of t-test was not appropriate with the criteria of acceptance of Ho, because the fact showed the value of t-test was higher than t-table (2,02 < 10,619 > 2,70). So, from that explanation, writers concluded that null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. Hence, hypothesis stated that there was a significant effect of using ELSA (English Language Speech Assistant) Speak Application on students’ speaking ability for the eleventh grade of MAS Darul Al Muhajirin in the academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

The   present   classroom   action   research   dealt    with    the    improving vocabulary through media picture to the second grade students of SD Raudhatul hasanah in academic year 2016/2017. The present classroom action investigation was basically triggered by the fact that the subjects under study still faced problem in learning vocabulary. The problem of the study could be formulated as follows: can vocabulary mastery of the second grade students of SD Raudhatul hasanah in academic year 2016/2017 be improved through picture? There is one class as many as thirty students in SD Raudhatul hasanah. In this classroom action study, the teaching and learning processes were divided into two cycles where each cycle consisted of two sessions. The obtained data of the present classroom action study were collected through the administration of pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire which were analyzed descriptively. The present classroom action study was started with administering pre-test to the subjects under study. The grand mean figure of post test scores obtained by the subjects under study in cycle I was 51,2 and in cycle II was 85,1. There was a significant difference of the grand mean figure between cycle I and cycle II. The difference of the grand mean figure of cycle I and cycle II was 33,9. These findings clearly showed that picture could improve vocabulary mastery of the second grade students of S D Raudhatul hasanah in academic years 2016/2017. The result of the data analysis of questionnaire score showed the comparative percentage figures of 71.61% for option A, 27.34% for option B, 1.05% for option C, and 0% for option D. The comparative percentage figures clearly showed the subjects’ attitude and motivation in learning vocabulary changed positively.

Abstract

Laporan ini dibuat untuk menjadi salah satu syarat lulus dalam kegiatan program Kegiatan Masyarakat Dosen dan Mahasiswa STKIP Budidaya Binjai yang dilakukan di  Lokasi kegiatan Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertempat di Desa Karang Gading Kecamatan Secanggang Kabupaten Langkat Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Keberadaan pembelajaran kewirausahaan diharapkan dapat bermanfaat bagi masyarakat sekitar. Sebelum melakukan kegiatan mahasiswa memikirkan apa yang mau dibuat dan akhirnya mahasiswa memutuskan untuk membuat kerajinan tangan dari bahan bekas dan sabun cuci piring. Karena ada beberapa alasan yaitu bahan yang diperlukan mudah ditemukan dimana-mana dan juga untuk penghematan biaya.
