Abstract

Indonesia still requires approximately 4 million entrepreneurs to become a developed country. This research aimed at identifying and analyzing the factors forming the broiler farm entrepreneurial activities that contribute on generating new entrepreneurs in Indonesia. Primary data were collected through questionnaire and analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Independent latent variables were innovations (IN), productions (DP), competitiveness (DS), risks (PR), labors (TK), and policies (KP), and then entrepreneurial activities (AK) as dependent latent variable. The results showed that the model was built (MODEL1 as measurement model and MODEL2 as structural model) had goodness fit and good reliability measurement variables (CR≥0.70, VE≥0.50). Innovation was reflected by the level of willingness to innovate (λ=0.63) and level of technology (λ=0.62). Production was reflected by production efficiency (λ=0.62) and cost control (λ=0.43). Competitiveness was reflected by the internet (λ=0.56), the cost of starting (λ=0.55), and new business formation (λ=0.58). Labor was reflected by the training and development (λ=0.57), and motivation (λ=0.42). Policies was reflected by access to land (λ=0.56), technical assistance (λ=0.60), research and technology (λ=0.66), and copyright protection (λ=0.64). The entrepreneurial activity of broiler farms were formed by innovation (γ=0.91), competitiveness (γ=0.94), and policies (γ=0.98). Broiler farms contributed positively to generate new entrepreneurs. Production and information technology development program, facilitation of the creation of new ventures program, business expansion program, and a program of strengthening intellectual property rights on broiler farms should be a priority of the Indonesian government programs in the future.

Abstract

The domestic beef cattle producers have supplied only 70 percent of the national need. Demand of the beef cattle has not been accompanied by an increasing of supply response. One of the major problems in beef cattle farming is its low productivity that might be caused by its low efficiency of input use. Therefore, this study aims are (1) to estimate the factors that influence the production of beef cattle fattening, (2) to analyze the level of technical efficiency of beef cattle fattening. The stochastic production frontier is used to estimate production function. The results showed that quantity of concentrate, dummy of cattle’s age, and dummy of livestock ownership significantly influence production. The average value of the farm technical efficiency is 0.764 ranging from a minimum of 0.478 to a maximum of 0.996.

Abstract

Dynamics and Factors Affecting Non-Farming Income in Rice Farmer Household in Sigi District, Central Sulawesi Province. Agricultural business households that control relatively small rice fields (0.19 hectares) in Central Sulawesi Province amounted to 35,009 farmer households. Meanwhile, the increasing demands for living necessities encourage farmers to diversify their sources of income by working in the non-agricultural sector. This study aimed to analyze the dynamics and factors that influence farmers' household incomes from non-agricultural work. The study was conducted in 2016 carried out in Sigi District, Central Sulawesi Province. The study site was selected purposively using two time points data (2008 and 2015). Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively (regression with the Ordinary Least Square single equation model. The results of the study showed that diversification of livelihoods in non farming was done more by male household members than women. Nonfarm jobs tended to reduce the allocation of outpoured work in agriculture. The contribution of income from non farming was greater than men compared to women household time allocation on nonfarm jobs increases total household income of farmers. Factors affecting household income were the allocation of male and female workloads on non-agricultural work, labor costs on work in rice farming, male and female education in the household. Keywords: non farming income, rice farmers, labors  Abstrak Rumah tangga usaha pertanian yang menguasai lahan sawah relatif sempit (0,19 hektar) di Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah sebesar 35.009 rumah tangga petani, sementara tuntutan kebutuhan hidup semakin meningkat mendorong rumah tangga petani untuk melakukan diversifikasi sumber pendapatan dengan bekerja di sektor non pertanian.
