Abstract

Detergent is an ingredient used to maintain cleanliness. In the manufacture of detergents, an active ingredient in the form of LAS (Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate) surfactant is often added to kill bacteria. In addition to using synthetic materials, natural ingredients can also be used that can act as antibacterial. One of the natural ingredients with antibacterial activity is hibiscus leaves (Hibiscus tilianceus L). The use of hibiscus leaf extract as a substitute for LAS surfactants aims to reduce the impact of environmental pollution The purpose of this research was to find the right formula in the manufacture of liquid detergent made from hibiscus leaf extract and determine its quality based on SNI 06-0475-1996. The research method used is experimental research that produces qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data include phytochemical tests, organoleptic tests, hard water emulsion stability tests, and cleaning power tests. The resulting quantitative data includes the characteristics of the liquid detergent produced based on testing pH, specific gravity, antimicrobial test, phenol coefficient, and levels of active substances. Based on the study, results showed that hibiscus leaf extract contained secondary metabolites in the form of saponins, triterpenoid/steroidal saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols. The antibacterial test showed that hibiscus leaf liquid detergent had antibacterial activity 1.67 times more effective than phenol. The product test results show that the liquid detergent of hibiscus leaves has the quality according to SNI 06-0475-1996.Keywords: Hibiscus Leaf Extract; Eco-Friendly Detergent; Hibiscus leaves; Surfactant; LAS (Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate)

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of cancer causes of death in woman. Chemotherapy is one cancer treatment give toxic effects on normal cells. Alternative of cancer treatment by using flavonoid derivative have potent anticancer to reduce side effects of cancer. Chalcone is family of flavonoid that have biological activity. Chalcone derivatives have potential compound as anticancer agent. Chalcone with the presence halogen, metoxy group in ring B is know to inhibit cancer cells. The aims of this research were to synthesize chalcone derivate with bromo, methoxy, and hyroxy group in ring chalcone and to determine the anticancer activity of chalcone derivative. The chalcone derivative was synthesized from 2-hydroxyacetophenone with 2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde by Claisen-Schmidt reaction. In vitro cytotoxicity against breast cancer cell was tested by MTT assay method. The compound of 2’-hydroxy-2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxychalcone was yield in 78% as yellow solid. The IC50 of 2’-hydroxy-2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxychalcone was 42,19 µg/mL as a moderate activity to inhibiting breast cancer cell line. Cytotoxity of docorubicin againts breast cancer cell line more active than 2’-hydroxy-2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxychalcone with IC50 10,61 µg/mL. Doxorubicin as drug standar had better anticancer activity than 2’-hydroxy-2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxychalcone. Based on the IC50 value, the compound 2’-hydroxy-2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxychalcone has a moderate activity towards breast cancer cell lines. This study can recommend as candidate for anticancer againts breast cancer cell lines.

Abstract

Google sites can be used as an alternative interactive chemistry learning media, especially on salt hydrolysis material. This research aims to develop learning media in the form of google sites based on a contextual approach to salt hydrolysis material and to test the quality of the developed media. The research carried out is in the form of development research using a 4-D research model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), but is only limited to the develop. Assessment of product quality is carried out using a Likert obtained from the validator and student responses using a Guttman. The results of the assessment of product quality by material experts obtained a percentage of 88.63% in the Very Good category (VG), the assessment by media experts obtained a percentage of 92.5% in the Very Good category (VG), and the assessment by reviewers obtained a percentage of 90.47% in the form of the Very Good (VG) category and positive responses by students who obtained a percentage of 94% in the Very Good (VG) category. Based on the assessments of media experts, material experts, reviewers, and student responses, it can be concluded that the developed media can be used as an alternative medium for chemistry learning on salt hydrolysis material.

Abstract

Google sites can be used as interactive chemistry learning media, especially on the functional group material of carbon compounds. This study aims to develop learning media based on google sites containing chemo-entrepreneurship (CEP) on the functional group material of carbon compounds and determine product quality based on the assessment of material experts, media experts, reviewers (high school chemistry teachers), and student responses. Research and Development (R&D) is a research method with a 4-D development model consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate but limited to the develop stage. Product quality was assessed by a material expert, a media expert, five reviewers, and ten students responded. Quality assessment was carried out using the expert judgment using a Likert scale while the response data used the Guttman scale. The product developed is a website developed through the Google Sites containing a home page, materials, evaluations, unique facts, and references. The results of the assessment according to material experts, media experts and reviewers were 89.28%, 87.5% and 94.41%, respectively, and received a positive response from students of 97.5%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that google sites can be used as an alternative chemistry learning media.

Abstract

Pendidik harus mampu mensinergikan teknologi pada proses pembelajaran yaitu melalui metode dan media yang kreatif dan inovatif sehingga memudahkan peserta didik dalam memahami materi termokimia yang bersifat abstrak beserta perhitungan dan tidak menimbulkan miskonsepsi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan video animasi adobe after effect berbasis audiovisual pada materi termokimia dan mengetahui kualitas video yang dikembangkan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan (R&D) dengan model pengembangan 4D (Define, Design, Develop, dan Desseminate) yang dibatasi hanya sampai tahap Develop. Produk yang dikembangkan merupakan video animasi yang berbentuk .mp4. Teknik pengumpulan data untuk kelayakan media pembelajaran dilakukan oleh validator dan angket respon peserta didik. Validator terdiri dari satu ahli materi, satu ahli media, dan tiga reviewer. Sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu dengan menggunakan skala likert, skala guttman, dan presentase keidealan. Hasil penilaian kualitas produk oleh ahli materi mendapatkan persentase 84,38% dengan kategori Sangat Baik, ahli media mendapatkan persentase 78,57% dengan kategori Sangat Baik, dan reviewer mendapatkan persentase 96,2% dengan kategori Sangat Baik. Produk direspon positif oleh 10 peserta didik kelas XI SMA/MA dengan persentase sebesar 95% dengan kategori Sangat Baik. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk yang dikembangkan dapat digunakan sebagai media alternatif dalam proses pembelajaran kimia materi termokimia.

Abstract

Experiments are an important part of the chemistry curriculum. An indicator in the form of a synthesis indicator is commonly used in acid-base materials experiments. The usage of synthetic indicators can result in waste that is both environmentally harmful and costly. The butterfly pea flower is one of the plants that contains anthocyanins, which have the potential to be used as an alternative indication of natural acids and bases. The study aims to determine the acid and base material curriculum and competency indicators, as well as the potential of butterfly pea flower extract as a substitute for synthesis indicators and the practicality of butterfly pea flower extract as a chemical experimental design in SMA/MA. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research method that includes literature review, observation, experimentation, and interviewing. The results showed that the relationship between acid-base materials and experiments was the determination of natural materials as acid-base indicators, the pH of the solution, the identification of acid-base properties, and acid-base titration. The butterfly pea flower indicator was produced from maceration extraction using 96% ethanol as the solvent. The butterfly pea flower indicator gives pink color at pH 1-2, reddish purple at pH 3, light purple at pH 4-5, turquoise at pH 6, bluish green at pH 7, light blue at pH 8-9, green at pH 10, yellowish green at pH 11, greenish yellow at pH 12-13, and yellow at pH 14. The titration step showed that butterfly pea flower indicators could replace synthetic indicators, namely phenolphthalein and methyl orange. Based on the analysis, the butterfly pea flower indicator can be used as an alternative indicator in acid base titration and an alternative experimental design in schools.

Abstract

Contextual learning is a learning concept to connect learning materials and their function in daily life. The obstacle in implement contextual learning is the concept of learning that involves potential local resources. Guava leaf is one of the local resources that has many benefits and also contains tannins, which have potential as an ingredient corrosion inhibitor base. This study aims to analyze core competence, basic competence, and competency indicator of corrosion material, the results of making guava leaf extract as inhibitor corrosion for contextual learning, and extract potential guava leaves as a natural corrosion inhibitor. This study employs descriptive qualitative research, the methods used include literature study, observation, experimentation, and interviews. The results of this study show that the relationship between corrosion materials and experiment is the identification of factors that can prevent corrosion, explanation of ideas to prevent corrosion, comparisons of the fast and slow corrosion process, and corrosion rate analysis. This experiment was carried out by modifying tools, materials, and methods of work. Maceration method using 70% ethanol as solvent. The results of the Corrosion rate showed that increasing the concentration of inhibitor then lowers the corrosion value obtained. In this study, the highest corrosion rate occurred on iron with a 0% inhibitor concentration is 0,00175 g/cm2.days, while the lowest corrosion rate occurred on iron with 20% inhibitor concentration, is 0,00025 g/cm2.day. Based on the analysis, natural inhibitors of extract Guava leaf can be used as a simple experiment alternative in school.

Abstract

The acid-base titration experiments at Senior High Schools typically use phenolphthalein and methyl orange indicators, which are relatively expensive and harmful to the environment. One of the plants containing anthocyanin pigments is boat lily (Rhoeo spathaceae (Sw.) Stearn) leaves. The research aims to determine the potential analysis of boat lily leaf extract as an alternative indicator used in chemistry learning in titration acid-base learning. The type of research used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Based on the research and discussion results, the pedagogical aspects carried out by chemistry teachers obtained results that using boat lily leaf extract indicators in acid-base titration in the acid-base chapter is appropriate and meets pedagogical terms to be applied by chemistry teachers. A review of chemistry teachers, laboratory employees, and students obtained results that the use of boat lily leaf extract indicators in acid-base titration in the acid-base chapter can be approved because it meets the aspects of ease to be applied in learning, understanding, and attractive to students, and ease of being provided in the laboratory. Based on the feasibility analysis of potential experiments, boat lily leaf extract is feasible based on financial aspects and shelf life resilience.
