Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze students’ error grammatical uttered by 20 El. Tourism Trainee students. To data collection done through observation, aided by audio recording and it was completed by the note-taking technique during the research. The data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively using classroom research. The data collected by recording the students’ conversation was done teaching and learning activity in the classroom. The results of the analysis were found that students ignore the rule of an interrogative in asking a question. Most of the students tended to obtain dubious in expressing the statement and question during the conversation. The conclusion the students’ ignorances because of their knowledge of the grammatical structure they are learning and practising during their activity of doing their tasks.

Abstract

The image and audiovisual have been applied to create an innovative strategy in the English language instructional, whereas the combination of this instrument and digital technology which is known as “multimodality” has not been explored widely. This study gauges higher education students’ perception of multimodality. There were 87 Polytechnic and 41 University students involved in this research. Digital questionnaires were employed and the data collection was elaborated descriptively. The UTAUT model (unified theory of acceptance and use of technology) was applied to measure students’ argument on the multimodality use. The result indicated that there is a positive trend in the use of multimodality in the classroom. Learners have a desire to use the combination of image, audiovisual and digital technology. This study extends our understanding of what the learners need from digital technology development and a significant chance to develop on the multimodality which fit for the higher education level.

Abstract

Indonesian Language for foreign speaker (BIPA) students are very interested in cultural values, the provision of cultural values ​​is very important for BIPA students to enrich their language skills. Even cultural errors can be more serious than language errors. Trihita Karana is a philosophical value of living in harmony with God, nature, and fellow human beings. To teach BIPA students, it is necessary to have a genuine learning method so that BIPA students can absorb the culture significantly. The twenty BIPA learners in the State Polytechnic of Bali were conducted in this research. Questionnaire and observation methods were used in data collection. The data obtained were then analysed using a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of BIPA students' responses to several methods being tested, it can be concluded that 96.7% of respondents argued that the Trihita Karana cultural learning method was very feasible to support the BIPA learning process. There were several methods appreciated by BIPA students, including guessing pictures, running while dictation, observing, video documentation, immersion, and debate. Among these methods, the immersion method was the most favoured by BIPA students because they directly experienced it in daily life.

Abstract

This Research entitled “Students’ Syntax Error in Making English Conversation, An Error Analysis Study. Basically, it is commonly found that English structure was difficult learned by Indonesian native elementary students. This study was focused on the exploration of foreign language errors and mistakes uttered by younger students. The research method applied in this research consists of approach research, kind and data source, method, and technique of collecting data, method, and technique of analyzing data, and method and technique of presenting the data analysis. A qualitative approach was used in this research and the data source was done by the researcher toward Elementary School 5th Grade Students. The method used in collecting data was by using the observation method and interview method. Then, the result of the analysis was presented by using formal and informal methods. The discussion of the problems was preceded by errors in syntax, such as errors in the scope of clause and phrase, the omission of article and preposition, the omission of the copula be, and error in using to (infinitive). From the result and discussion, it could be concluded that the researcher found some errors in using English done by the Elementary School 5th Grade Students, related to syntax. The writer was aware that this research has some limitations or shortages so it is hoped that this research could be continued in order to get a better result for the society in general.
