Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis penggunaan gaya bahasa pada antologi puisi “The Drop That Became” The Sea karya Yunus Emre. Gaya bahasa memiliki peran penting dalam karya sastra untuk menciptakan keindahan dan menghindari kebosanan bagi pembaca. Dalam penelitian ini, fokus diberikan pada penggunaan gaya bahasa seperti simile, metafora, ironi, hiperbola, dan personifikasi dalam lima puisi yang terdapat dalam antologi tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan metode simak dan mencatat kutipan puisi yang mengandung gaya bahasa yang diteliti. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan triangulasi teori untuk meningkatkan validitas data. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa antologi puisi The Drop That Became The Sea karya Yunus Emre mengandung puisi – puisi yang mengagumkan tentang cinta, kehidupan, kesucian, dan rohani. Antologi puisi The Drop That Became The Sea karya Yunus Emre memanfaatkan gaya bahasa dengan baik untuk menciptakan keindahann dan meningkatkan makna puisi – puisinya.

Abstract

This study examines how co-occurring sign-processes in an advertisement generate multiple interpretations. The object of analysis is the Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans advertisement released by American Eagle in July 2025. The advertisement attracted widespread public attention because it gave rise to two publicly documented interpretations: a commercial interpretation confirmed by the brand and a biological interpretation associated with eugenics discourse reported in news media. Drawing on Peirce's trichotomies and Bateman's account of co-occurring sign-processes, this study analyzes the verbal and visual elements across four selected segments using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings show that the ambiguity does not result from the combination or blending of different sign categories into a single sign. Rather, it arises from the co-occurrence of distinct verbal and visual sign-processes in which the phonetic qualisign /dʒiːnz/ is realized as a spoken sinsign capable of instantiating two competing symbolic legisigns, “genes” and “jeans”. These sign-processes enable divergent dynamic interpretants to develop simultaneously.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the moral values, social functions, social criticism, and legitimacy of power in Kalilah wa Dimnah by Ibn al-Muqaffa’. This research employs a library research method using a qualitative descriptive approach. The primary data source is Kalilah wa Dimnah, while secondary data are obtained from books, scholarly journals, and previous relevant studies. Data were collected through documentation techniques by reading, identifying, classifying, and recording textual data related to the research objectives. The data were analyzedthrough the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Kalilah waDimnah contains various moral values, such as honesty, wisdom, responsibility, hard work, and friendship, which contribute to character building. Moreover, the work functions as a medium of social and political criticism through the use of animal characters as symbolic representations of human behavior. The criticism addresses issues such as abuse of power, injustice, corruption, and the importance of wise leadership. The study also finds that the legitimacy of power in Kalilah wa Dimnah is based on sociological, elitist, and ethical dimensions. Therefore, Kalilah wa Dimnah not only possesses literary significance but also contributes to the development of moral, social, and political thought within the Islamic intellectual tradition.
