Abstract

Name is a designation or label given to objects, people, places, products and even ideas or concepts, which are usually used to distinguish one another. As social beings, humans are given a name as a differentiator between one another. However, in some people in Indonesia there is a custom to call the name of the Hajj as a tribute to people who have performed the pilgrimage. Habits like this of course will have an impact on the same nickname for people who already have the title of Hajj. Not a few for a community that has already had the pilgrimage called Hajj which of course confuses the person because several people are called by the same name. So what if one day everyone in Indonesia has a Hajj title. Will everyone in Indonesia be named Haji? This article discusses the future of the Indonesian name on the basis that it is part of the Indonesian people's habit of using informal, binding and declining names. This article is prepared based on adequate literature study. By using the meta-analysis method, the writer analyzes and interprets the existing data and supports each other.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to compare two movies that contain similar perceptions of psychological impact on war, disappointment and regret, from Dunkirk and 1917 movies. Disappointment and regretting arise between British soldiers in movies that were directed by Christopher Nolan and Sam Mendes, which coincidentally both of these films raised the setting in World War I and II. Therefore, this research uses literary criticism and comparative literature methods in examining Dunkirk (2017) and 1917 (2019), to produce both similarities and differences in the psychological and emotional impact on British soldiers. In addition, this research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach using Peirce’s sign semiotic analysis. The result of this research is that readers will be able to recognize the differences between the two movies from literary perspective and psychological review from the failures of war in Dunkirk (2017) and 1917 (2019). These two films ultimately interpret disappointment in almost the same way and regret in the form of the loss of a loved one. The behavior of people who experienced both psychological impacts also indicates similarities, sadness, annoyed, and angry. Keywords: disappointment, index, regretting, representations

Abstract

Phonological interference occurs when a speaker reproduces the sound in the second language system but the use of the first language system is still recognized. This phenomenon is frequently found in the speech or utterances of second language speakers such as that of presented in a video from Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affair’s (hence MoFA) YouTube channel entitled “Media Briefing of Covid-19 Vaccine Development in Indonesia”. Thus, this study focuses on the phonological interference in the video by investigating its types based on particular characteristics of the categories. This research applies Weinreich’s theory of phonological interference (1968) as the grand theory to answer the research problem and qualitative descriptive method as the research. The data collected are obtained by recording technique to combine the equivalence of the video recording and the transcript. The results show the findings on four types of phonological interference. They are under-differentiation of phonemes, over-differentiation of phonemes, reinterpretation of distinctions, and actual phone substitution.

Two English teachers, one for the lower and one for the upper levels, were selected as research subjects. The result found that preservation is the most common strategy for teachers when teaching students Islamic terms. However, teachers use fewer addition strategies. Teachers also use globalization of Islamic terms, which involves a global or universal perspective in teaching Islamic terms. Meanwhile, teachers do not use localization strategies in the English classroom. Abstract

Objectives of this study were to analyze types of polysemy in the and to interpret polysemous words realized in the Frozen movie script. A method of this study was qualitative that produced descriptive data. The data were words that contained polysemy. A source of data in the study was Frozen (2013) movie scripts. The data were analyzed using suitable theories, including the type of polysemy proposed by Apresjan (1974) and meaning proposed by Lyons (1981). Based on the analysis, it was found that there are 26 pairs of data of polysemy that consist of two types of polysemy; 20 pairs of data are regular polysemy and six pairs of data were irregular polysemy. In the Frozen movie script, regular polysemy is more dominant than irregular polysemy because regular polysemy has the same systematic word but is different semantically or non-synonymous. Meanwhile, irregular polysemy has the same or true meaning as other words, and even it has no systematic relation. In conclusion, polysemy can arise in spoken or written language, so that the ambiguous word that have more than one meaning are categorized into polysemy.  Keywords: polysemy, meaning, frozen, movie script, semantics

Abstract

The aim of this study emphasizes on the necessity of a multi-dimensional strategy in combating bullying. The project involves improving teacher training programs, involving stakeholders, and tailoring interventions to the local context. This comprehensive study endeavors to ascertain the extent and ramifications of bullying at SMAN 3 Banjar, in addition to assessing the efficacy of the current anti-bullying initiatives. Methodologically, the research integrates both quantitative and qualitative approaches by descriptive-analytical methods, encompassing extensive surveys, including students, educators, and parents. A meticulous analysis of the gathered data sheds light on various facets: the prevalent forms of bullying, their consequential impact on the affected students, and the perceptions held by key stakeholders regarding both the phenomena of bullying and the preventive measures in place. The findings advocate for the formulation and implementation of more comprehensive, integrated, and context-specific approaches to effectively mitigate and address bullying in educational institutions. Bullying constitutes a critical challenge within educational settings, profoundly influencing students' mental health, academic performance, and overall social welfare. The investigation uncovers a significant occurrence of multiple bullying types—physical, verbal, psychological, and cyber bullying—within the institution. Notably, these acts of bullying have precipitated substantial adverse effects on students' mental health and scholastic achievement, manifesting in forms such as depression, anxiety, and a discernible decline in academic performance. A critical evaluation of the anti-bullying programs implemented reveals notable deficiencies in their execution, resource allocation, and training methodologies, alongside an imperative need for their refinement and contextual adaptation to the specific environment of SMAN 3 Banjar.

Abstract

Merdeka Curriculum has changed how teachers prepare the lessons. Leading to the necessary understanding of critical aspects of the teaching module making. This study characterizes the learning objectives of the Merdeka curriculum teaching module using Schwiers' ABCD behavioral objectives and Bloom's learning domains theory. It also explores the factors that hinder teachers from fully comprehending the three learning domains (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor) when designing a teaching module. This study utilized a qualitative approach with two junior high school teachers as participants. Analyzing the teaching modules and interviewing participants were performed. Using Schwiers' ABCD and Bloom's learning domains model, this study found that teachers had already focused on learner-centered activities. However, some inconsistencies arose in the presence of 'ABCD' components and three learning objectives statements. Factors like demotivation, lack of prior knowledge, insufficient practice and feedback, understanding gaps, time constraints, and overcrowded curriculum hindered teachers from applying the learning domains. In conclusion, integrating ABCD components and learning domains in a teaching module may facilitate effective instructional design, promote learner-centered approaches, set clear expectations, and optimize the learning environment.Merdeka Curriculum has changed how teachers prepare the lessons.
