Abstract

Research has been carried out in the Laboratory of Biology Teacher Training andEducation Faculty of University of Riau from April to August 2013. The goal of thisresearch is to determine the best type of mulch to trigger the vegetative growth ofsweet corn (Zea mays L. var. saccharata) and produce module on the concept ofdevelopment and growth concept for high school students. This research usedexperimental methods with randomized block design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3replications so that there are 15 experimental units. Treatment are A 0 = without mulch,A 1 = mulch reeds, A 2 = mulch palm empty fruit bunches, A 3 = mulch black plastic, A 4 =white plastic bag. Biological parameters measured were plant height, stem diameter,fresh weight and dry weight. Physic-chemical parameters are soil temperature, soilmoisture, and soil pH. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and tested further byDMRT at 5% level. The results showed that the use of mulch influence on stemdiameter and dry weight of sweet corn plants, but not in the height and wet weight ofthe plant. The use of oil palm empty fruit bunches mulch gave best result on theparameter plant height (86,54 cm), stem diameter (1,80 cm), fresh weight (191,7 g)and sweet corn plant dry weight (43,33 g ). The results of this research can bedeveloped into module on the concept of plant growth for high school students withthe title of “Pengaruh Beberapa Jenis Mulsa Terhadap Pertumbuhan VegetatifTanaman Jagung”.Keywords: Corn, Dry weight, Mulch, Module, Plant height, Stem diameter, Vegetativegrowth, Wet weight

Abstract

There have been studies to determine the application of the learning model ofProblem Based Learning (PBL) to the scientific attitude of students in learningbiology class XI IPA SMAN 4 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2013/2014. This study wasconducted in May 2014 with a sample of students of class XI IPA 1 (grade control) bythe number of students 33 and XI IPA 4 (experimental class) by the number ofstudents 32. The parameters used in the study of critical attitude, honest, open,conscientious and earnest. Collecting data using a scientific attitude observation sheet.Average scientific attitude in the experimental class was 84.39% in both categories,while the control class with 40.69% less category. Based on the research results, it canbe concluded that there are differences between the scientific attitude of studentsusing the experimental class learning model PBL in the learning process incomparison with the control class learning using lecture and discussion.Keywords: Scientific Attitudes, High School Senior, Problem Based Learning (PBL)

Abstract

This study aims to improve learning outcomes and creativity of students in learning science to use Project Based Learning (PjBL) model and through laboratory experimental method in class VIII.6 SMPS YPPI Tualang. The research was conducted in July to October 2014. The parameters used in this study is the result of learning, creativity, and skills of students in practical performance, projects and products. The research instrument used was a learning device that consists of a lesson plans, syllabus, student worksheet, worksheet project, and instrument data capture form of learning about the test results, observation sheets for creativity and skill in the performance lab and assessment sheets for skills in project and product performance. The collected data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the absorption of students in the first cycle of 3.03 (B / Good) increased in the second cycle becomes 3.27 (B+/ Good). Mastery learning of individuals in the first cycle of 2.74 (B-/Good) increased in the second cycle becomes 3.78 (A-/ Very Good). Creativity of students in the first cycle is 47.31% or 1.89 (C / Enough) and increased in the second cycle into 61.00% or 2.44 (C+/ Enough). Student's skills in practical performance in the first cycle is 3.31 (B+/Good) increased in the second cycle is 3.58 (B+/Good). Students' skills in project performance in the first cycle is 3.33 (B+/Good) increased in the second cycle is 3.38 (B+/Good). Student's skills in the performance of the product in the first cycle is 3.33 (B+/Good) increased in the second cycle is 3.64 (A- / Very Good). It can be concluded that the model PjBL through laboratory experiment method can improve learning outcomes and creativity of science teaching biology class students VIII.6 SMPS YPPI Tualang.Keywords : Science Learning, PjBL, Laboratory Experimental, Learning Outcomes, Creativity
