Abstract

The 4th industrial revolution effects many areas in today’s global era, including higher institution. Internet is the main instrument in this revloution. The limitation of time room availibility of the students will accor if the schools appliy face to face only in leaarning process. Blended learning is the alternative solution to overcome the case of inavility time and palce to learn. In addition to developing distance universities should also equip students with English reading skill. This study is aimed at describing the effect of blended learning on English academic reading by using experimental method with pretest-posttest control design. The sample of this research is 32 students of AMIK Bina Sriwijaya. The data were collected through English reading comprehension test in the form of multiple choice and were analyzed by using Independent Sample T test. Based on the Independent Sample T test output table in the Equal variances assumed section, it is found that Sig values. (2 tailed) of 0.0010.05.It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the average learning outcomes of respondents in the experimental group and respondents in the control group. In  other word, there is significant effect of blended learning on students reading skill achievement.

Abstract

This research concerned with the correlation between reading habit and students’ reading comprehension acheivements. The method used was correlational design. The population and samples were 37 Students. Questionnaire and documentation were used to collect the data. The researchers used Pearson Product Moment Correlation to analyze the data. The results showed that r-obtained was 0.353 compared to r-value interpretation of 0.200 to 0.400 which means there was a low correlation. Yet, r-table of 37 students was 0.325 while r-obtained was 0.353 which means that there was a significant correlation.

Abstract

Abstract : This research aimed to increase the English vocabulary mastery of the deaf students, especially in the material of instruction by using the total physical response method with word wall picture in the first grade of SMP Luar Biasa Negeri Martapura in the academic year of 2014/2015. The subject of this research consisted of 9 students. The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) designed based on the model proposed by Kemmis and McTaggart. This research was conducted in three cycles, in which for each cycle consisted of 3 meetings. It consisted of a planning phase, acting, observing, and reflecting. To answer the research questions, qualitative and quantitative were collected. The qualitative data were obtained through observation, while the quantitative data were obtained through tests and a questionnaire. The result showed there was an increase of the deaf students’ English vocabulary mastery. The pre-cycle test mean score was 48.89, while the mean score in the test of cycle 1, cycle 2, and cyle 3 was respectively 56.67, 63.89, and 78.89. So, the criteria of success had been achieved. The data obtained through the questionnaire showed there was a positive response given by the students in the teaching-learning process of English vocabulary using the total physical response method with word wall picture. In which the mean score of the pre-questionnaire was 32.22%. Then the mean of the post-questionnaire was 77.04%, so it increased as much as 44.82%. Furthermore, the results of observation showed that deaf students were motivated in the teaching-learning process during the implementation of total physical response method with word wall picture. Keywords: Total physical response, word wall picture, vocabulary mastery, deaf students, and classroom action research.
