Abstract

Subsea pipeline is a system comprised of multiple linepipes that are welded when installed on location used to distribute fluid such as oil and natural gas. Fabricated linepipes are to be stacked on cargo barge and transported to the installation location. This operation takes significant time and involves numerous linepipes. Optimization needs to be done to make sure the transport operation is executed efficiently. Optimization attempt was done using data from Double Joint Linepipe Transport Operation of Tangguh Expansion Project by Saipem Indonesia. Parameters considered during the optimization process include linepipe qualities during stacking, cargo barge strength and stability, and sea fastening property strength. Roark’s Formulas for Stress and Strain formulas are used in pipe stacking analysis to find stacking limit for each type of linepipes. Stability analysis is done by using DNVGL-ST-N001 as a guide and Maxsurf software for modelling. SACS software is used to analyzed sea fastening properties with guidance from DNVGL-ST-N001. Finally, optimization is done using a multi-criteria optimization method by using values from each analysis as parameters. Optimization results find that pipe stacking method using side support is 8.41% more optimal than standard pipe stacking method from Saipem Indonesia.

Abstract

Offshore structure decommissioning is mandatory when an offshore oil and gas platform reaches the end of its service life. There are no less than 450 fixed offshore steel structures in Southeast Asia, and by 2030, more than 200 offshore fields will be terminated and need to be decommissioned. From an operational aspect, the decommissioning process is simply an inverse of installation. However, due to the structures' age and the uncertainties of the structural performance, the simple operation can be an obfuscating process. This paper discusses one of the most crucial processes during decommissioning: lifting. The dynamic performance of a lifted jacket in several rigging variations is investigated. We use a standard stern crane HLV (Heavy Lift Vessel) to simulate the process, with several wave attack angles. Sea condition is according to DNVGL benign wave during marine operation, with random waves generated using the JONSWAP spectrum. Coupled dynamics of HLV and jacket motion are analyzed.

Abstract

This paper uses an analytical method to examine the motion of a Tension Leg Fish Cage (TLFC) in regular and random waves. TLFC is a conceptual design of a fish cage based on the Tension Leg Platform (TLP) working principle that is usually used in deep water offshore oil and gas exploration. The idea of providing a safe environment to combine ecotourism and fish farming in a single platform led us to perform an analytical calculation to assess the possibility of using the TLP concept in fish farming. A preliminary conceptual design of TLFC using an HDPE floater with steel cable tendon is presented. The analytical calculation of the response amplitude operator for surge and heave motion is presented using linear airy wave theory with head seas encountering angle. This paper also presents the calculation of TLFC surge and heave motion under random wave loads. The random wave spectra used in this paper are JONSWAP and ISSC spectra. The result shows that the surge and heave motion response of TLFC is relatively smalland, therefore, can be analyzed further with more detailed consideration. It is admitted that HDPE is a brittle material that cannot sustain any long period of constant tension. Hence the optimum tendon-floater connection for the structure is subject to further research.
