Abstract

RITUAL model is the model that is used to be applied in the class fbr improving speaking skill in English especially in the Islamic college. This model has double meanings from the word (spirituai as pertaining to the spirit as the seat of the moral or religious nature) and from the explanation of the abbreviation ( RITUAL as Reading. Internalizing, Transleting. and Using Active Learning) that has been supporied by some theoritical based as the new trend in speaking instruction. The idea comes from the lack of s;qategies and models that relate to lslamic values in speaking instructional in the lslamic college. Besides,*in speaking instruction, some teachers are Iittle bit confuse about how to relate speaking instruction to Islamic values. Therefore, this new model is the alternative fbr the English teachers rvho want to combine the atmosphiere in teaching speaking and islamic values by using Islamic text. As rhe conclusions, RITUAL model is applicable to be used in Islamic College where the students will not only get the skill in speaking, but also understand the islamic values. In other words, the designing of speaking instructional in by using ritual model is the new trend that can be applied in the class.

Abstract

English speaking strategies are broadly conceptualized as cognitive, metacognitive, and socioaffective strategies where are consciously or unconsciously employedby the multilingual speakers in studying. Nevertheless, students rarely utilize socioaffective strategies in speaking that caused students are anxiety, less ability to socialize, less self-confidence and motivation that give the bad effect to the students as multilingual speakers on their speaking performance in the classroom. Meanwhile, the speaking lecturer who has use the modul of socio affective strategies in IAIN Bukittinggi still face some difficulties in applying it since the materials are not really appropriate to the culture of students in islamic institution. To solve these problems, there must be the expanding instructional model that is not only focus on the socio affective strategies in teaching English but also integrating the culture of local wisdom to the model. Consequenly, this studyidentify the strengths and weaknesses of  Socio affective in Feby’s model and develop Socio-cultural affective strategy model in speaking skill. After conducting R and D research, through Planning, Impementing and Evaluating Model (PIE model) to third semester students registered 2015/2016 academic year of English Department in the State of Islamic Religious Institute (IAIN) Bukittinggi in Indonesia, it is found that  socio cultural affective strategy model is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

The students of English Education  Major is  guided to be a teacher later on. Nevertheless, not all these students want to be a teacher. Moreover, the chance to be a teacher is more limited and test to be a teacher is getting difficult. Consequently, students want to work in other fields that is still related to their major. Become a public speaker is one option besides being a teacher because this occupation still in line with the teacher but stand in different field. Good English profiency is required to be a good public speaker in multilingual society. English for Occupational Purpose(EOP) can be used to fulfill the requirement by using the appropriate module. This module is purposed to furnish English students’proficiency for being a public speaker. Then, the module consist varieties, description and the qualification which is  needed for  each public speaker area. Through this module the students is guided and is trained to be a good public speaker to multilingual society by some simulations. Briefly, this module will help the students in enhancing their profiency and it can  make them entry occupation in public speaking confidently.
