Abstract

Abstrak. Kesenian rakyat diyakini sebagai bagian dari identitas dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Pemikiran inilah yang menjadi landasan peneliti mengungkap adanya produksi wacana identitas masyarakat dalam kesenian Gajah-gajahan di desa Plunturan. Untuk mengungkap identitas dalam kesenian Gajah-gajahan di desa Plunturan, peneliti mengaplikasikan semiotika Roland Barthes. Untuk melihat tanda-tanda yang ada dalam setiap elemen dari kesenian Gajaha-gajahan seperti gerak, aksesoris, alat musik, kostum, dan penari. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan studi etnografi dengan analisis semiotika berdasarkan fakta yang ditemukan di lapangan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Dari temuan tersebut, tim peneliti melihat adanya identitas dari desa Plunturan adalah sebuah harmonisasi kehidupan desa Plunturan yang sangat menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai kebaikan berupa perjuangan, keberagaman, kesetaraan, gotong royong, dan religius. Abstract. Folk art is believed to be part of identity in people's lives. This thought is the basis of researchers revealing the production of community identity discourse in Gajah-gajahan (the art of Elephant) in Plunturan. To reveal the identity Gajah-Gajahan (the art of Elephant) in Plunturan, researchers applied roland barthes semiotics. To see the signs that exist in every element of Gajah-gajahan art such as motion, accessories, musical instruments, costumes, and dancers. The method used in this study uses qualitative descriptive methods, with ethnographic studies with semiotic analysis based on facts found in the field through observations, interviews and documentation. From the findings, the research team saw the identity of Plunturan is a harmonization of plunturan village life that highly upholds the values of goodness in the form of struggle, diversity, equality, mutual cooperation, and religion

Abstract

In having conversation with other people, the conversation should take in a structured way. The conversation should be managed by the participants through turn-taking. This research aims to determine the turn-taking, adjacency pairs, and sequences of the characters’ conversation in the movie entitled Starstruck. Starstruck is a movie about two teenagers who fell in love. Christopher Wilde who is a pop star and teen idol, meanwhile Jessica Olson is just an ordinary girl. The story of the movie written by Barbara Johns and the movie directed by Michael Grossman. This research uses qualitative method since the data comes in form of words. The result is 9 adjacency pairs. In the adjacency pairs there are twenty preferred answers. The first one is question-answer, there are seventeen question-answer. The second one is offer-acceptance, the researcher only found one offer-acceptance. The third one is request- acceptance, there are found two request-acceptance. There are also findings about the dispreferred answer in the adjacency pairs. The first one, the researcher only found one offer-refuse. The second one there are four assertion-dissent. The third one the researcher found two suggestion-refusal.

Abstract

This research seeks to identify Michael Jackson song lyrics include figurative language. As a result, the researcher came up with a question to represent the issue. What forms of figurative language does Michael Jackson utilize in his songs Album History: Past, Present and Future, Book I? According to this study, Figurative language comes in 12 different types such as Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Allusion, Anaphora, Idiom, Onomatopoeia, Metonymy, Synecdoche, Hyperbole, Syntax, Repetition, and Imagery are some of its forms. This research is made by William Haudinata Prakasa from Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya. The researcher employed a qualitative approach since the data were gathered utilizing word documents and a method of systematic context text analysis (words, phrases, lines, and sentences). By categorizing words with similar meanings, qualitative analysis enables researchers to comprehend the text. The researcher used 20 songs from Michael Jackson Songs Album History: Past, Present and Future, Book I as a tool to identify the data that will be studied based on this research. According to the research, there are 86 datas from each Michael Jackson's songs, including 21 personifications, 23 metaphors, 20 hyperboles, 5 repetitions, 5 similes, 2 idioms, 1 imagery, 2 allusions, 2 anaphoras, 1 onomatopoeia, 1 metonymy, and 3 synecdoches.

Abstract

Pronunciation is one of the most important part in listening, and speaking. The aims of this research were to find out the phonemes can be pronounced by 3 years old 6 months child. The data for this research was taken from the child from Jl. Mbak Likek, Desa Tarik, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. The first 3 years old 6 months child is Bilqis. This research was applied descriptive qualitative method. The techniques for collecting the data were observation, the observation conducted for time of three month. Based on the observation, Bilqis phonemes produced 17 consonants [p, b, t, d, s, h, m, n, l, g, ŋ, w, j, ð, f, k, r], 6 short vowels [ɪ, ɛ, æ, ɒ, ʌ, ʊ], 4 long vowels [i:], [ɑ:], [ɔː], [uː], and 5 diphthongs [eɪ, aɪ, ɔɪ, əʊ, aʊ]. Furthermore, the child has pronounced most of consonants such as: bilabial consonants [p], [b], [m], labiodental [f], [v], alveolar consonants [t], [d], [s], [z], [n], [l], retroflex consonant [r], palato-alveolar consonant [tʃ], velar consonant [k], [g], [ŋ], labio-velar consonant [w] and glottal consonant [h]. As a result, the child is affected by the movie. Because of the appealing animated characters and the song's rhythm, which is well-known and simple for children to recall, this film format is generally popular with children. Parents should think about how watching cartoon films on Cocomelon's YouTube channel can expose their children to new English vocabulary.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analysis the types and functions of impoliteness strategies used by the main character in A Man Called Otto movie. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative method. The data consisted of utterances, specifically used by the main character, Otto. The source of the data for this research is A Man Called Otto movie with helps by the transcripts to ensure that utterances in the movie are completely and accurately delivered. The researcher applied Culpeper’s theory of impoliteness strategy (2005) and its functions (2011). The results showed that 63 impoliteness strategies were found: bald on-record (11) utterances, positive impoliteness (20) utterances, negative impoliteness (23) utterances, off-record (1) utterance, and withhold politeness (8) utterances. Negative impoliteness more inclined because Otto’s characteristic is shaped by profound loneliness after his wife's death, making him impatient, straightforward, and irritable. Furthermore, two out of three functions occur in this research, namely affective impoliteness (25) utterances and coercive functions (38) utterances, coercive impoliteness more inclined because Otto’s desire to gain an advantage or maintain control in the situation, coupled with his power dynamic such as being older and more experienced. Furthermore, entertaining function was not found in this movie because it focuses about Otto’s personal journey and emotional challenges.

Abstract

Advertisement is a type of communication that aims to promote or provide information about products, services, or ideas to the general public to influence their actions or views, the purpose of advertisements is to increase sales, build brand awareness, and inform that there is a new product. Using the multimodal theory from Anstey & Bull (2010) which is semiotic system, this research finds out the semiotic system on Lays and Pringles advertisements and the similarities and differences of semiotic system on Lays and Pringles advertisements. The part that will be analyzed is the comparative of semiotic system on Lays and Pringles advertisements. This study, employed qualitative method and using table to compare the semiotic system that exists in Lays and Pringles advertisements. The data were taken from scenes in Lays and Pringles advertisements on YouTube. Semiotic system that exists in Lays and Pringles based on theory of Anstey & Bull (2010) is linguistic analysis, visual analysis, audio analysis, gesture analysis, and spatial analysis. The total of findings from this study is 48. In the two advertisements that have been researched, all semiotic systems including 15 linguistic analysis, 10 visual analysis, 11 audio analysis, 9 gesture analysis, and 3 spatial analyses. The result show that there are five aspects of semiotic systems based on Anstey & Bull (2010) theory. All similarities and differences also appear except the audio analysis. The similarities of audio analysis did not appear because the two advertisements have been using different music for the audio. Keywords: Comparative, Lays, Multimodal, Pringles, Semiotic System.
