Abstract

http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol2no3.20075Studies of stratigraphy on Quaternary deposits in the southwest region of Lake Tondano, Tomohon Regency, South Sulawesi, revealed six facies of deposition environments. These facies consist of Tondano tuff, young volcanic eruption, lake, sand lake, tidal lake, and swamp deposits. Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variation of the Quaternary deposits, three unit of the depositional facies were recognized (UFP I-III). Each of the depositional facies unit is characterized by variation of the depositional environment changes which were controlled by tectonics, and was followed by the activity of Sonder main fault. The Sonder main fault activity, which controlled the depositional environment changes was recorded as an UFP. Probably, the character of this stratigraphy could be called as cyclo-tectonostratigraphy. The study was based on analyses of sedimentology and stratigraphy of six borehole information obtained along the E-NW traverse which is approximately parallel to the shorelines of the southwestern part of Lake Tondano. The penetration of the borehead varied from 1.20 to 8.7 m.

Abstract

The ignimbtrite plato of Sianok Valley at Belakang balok Village was produced by two periods of Maninjau volcanic eruptions. The two eruption periods are separated by fluvio volcanic deposits, consisting of very qoarse sand and conglomerate. The two periods pyroclatic deposits at containing pumice and locally several coal.  These pyroclatic deposits were faulted and formed terrace morphology. The Sianok Valley is considered as an effect of the reactivation of basement fault throughting the ignimbrite deposits. Keywords:morphostratigraphy , Maninjau pumice tuf, terrace, fault, plato

Abstract

Quaternary deposits of the alluvial plain to coastal plains in the Kec. Gemuruh, Kabupaten Kendal in the north-coast of Java (The Central Java Province) have been studied. The study was based on an analyses of geological surface and subsurface, especially of six boreholes information obtained along the North-South, and the penetration of the bore head varied from 2.80 to 6,65 m. These Quaternary deposits, can be devided into Members of Sandstone Damar Formation (Tpds), Damar Formation (Qtd), floodbasin and river channel deposits. Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variations of the deposition environment in the eastern part, the sediment accumulations were recognised which are related to fault activities. Whereas, the sediment accumulations in the western part influenced by normal fault. The tectonic activities which controlled the deposition processes were recorded as two stages. These were, (1)the activity of uplift fault obtained along the West to East, (2)the activity of uplift with direction West to East in the northern part followed by activity of normal fault towards almost North-South. Relative sea-level changes affect coastal-plain environment, they are influenced by local tectonic and global of sea-level changes. The tectonic activity also would cause shallowing and steepening of the depositional slope. Keywords : Quaternary sediments, tectonic, structure geology, sediment accumulation

Abstract

Kandangan-Bagandah road is the shorthest road alternative, which connects many town in South Kalimantan with the sea port of Batulicin, South Kalimantan. The road crossing a steep slope terrain and the very thick weathered soil has caused this road segment have the high susceptibility of mass movement.Geomorphological problems causing the road damage relate to the condition of landform such as: slope, degree of land density, peat or clay zone. Based on the physical aspect, the problems occurr as: mass movement soil creep, rock fall, development of valley (lateral erosion, backward erosion) and subsidence. Keywords: landform, lineament, sloping, mass movement, roadway

Abstract

The stratigraphy of Kuma River area is divided into six formations, bottom to top, Dalan, Duna, Kuma, Waeken, Wakatin, and Leko Conglomerate. The Dalan Formation is Trassic in age composed of interbedded well-bedded claystone and sandstone with a typical turbidite sequences. The Duna Formation is Jurassic in age, consisting of interbedded pelagic limestone and fossil (ammonites and belemnites) rich beds. The Kuma Formation is Upper Cretaceous to Eocene age comprising well-bedded medium beds pelagic limestone with abundant planktonic forams. The Waeken is Oligocene- Miocene age and comprises micaceous mudstone. The Wakatin Formation consists of light gray massive reefal limestone containing corals, sponge, algae, bivalves and benthonic foraminifers. The Leko Formation has a Pleistocene age consisting of conglomerate. Structural geology of this area comprises anticline, syncline, and normal fault that relats to the block faulting. The presence of reservoir and source rocks and also fold structure may play an important role in hydrocarbon prospective of the area. Keywords: interbedded pelagic limestone, turbidite sequences, chert layers, hydrocarbon
