Abstract

http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol2no1.20071In the studied area, the sedimentary Quaternary facies consists of fl uvial channel separated by fl oodbasin, swamp, and fl oodplain deposits. Changes in channel style from channel 1, 2, and to 3 are interpreted as the result of a change in the type of river discharge from low to high sinuosity channels. Vertical changes in the character of these fl uvial channels can be related to changes in humidity. The lateral and vertical succession of the fl oodbasin and swamp environments shows evidence of decreasing and increasing of these facies. They are the result of changes in climate. Vertical changes of the Quaternary deposit successions can be related to changes in climate. It is concluded that the subinterval facies I.a to I.c as form of channel 2 and fl oodplain facies (subinterval facies I.b) refl ects a continuosly increase in climate from minimum to climatic maximum. Whereas, from the subinterval facies I.c to II.c during deposition of the subinterval facies II.b by the occurrence of fl oodbasin facies 2, the humid climate decreased from climatic maximum to minimum. Probably, this can be called as astrostratigraphy or orbital stratigraphy.

Abstract

http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol2no3.20075Studies of stratigraphy on Quaternary deposits in the southwest region of Lake Tondano, Tomohon Regency, South Sulawesi, revealed six facies of deposition environments. These facies consist of Tondano tuff, young volcanic eruption, lake, sand lake, tidal lake, and swamp deposits. Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variation of the Quaternary deposits, three unit of the depositional facies were recognized (UFP I-III). Each of the depositional facies unit is characterized by variation of the depositional environment changes which were controlled by tectonics, and was followed by the activity of Sonder main fault. The Sonder main fault activity, which controlled the depositional environment changes was recorded as an UFP. Probably, the character of this stratigraphy could be called as cyclo-tectonostratigraphy. The study was based on analyses of sedimentology and stratigraphy of six borehole information obtained along the E-NW traverse which is approximately parallel to the shorelines of the southwestern part of Lake Tondano. The penetration of the borehead varied from 1.20 to 8.7 m.

Abstract

The study of the environmental changes and character of the depositonal systems during Late Plistocene to Holocene on the Pekalongan coastalplain was based on analyses of the sedimentology and stratigraphy of fourteen boreholes. The penentration of the bore head varied from 7.70 to 15.80 m. Six depositional environments which occurred above the Damar Formation (QTd) are: linier clastic deposits (offshore, nearshore, and beach), fluvial deposits (river channel and floodplain), and swamp deposits. These deposits are separated by three depositional intervals (IP I-III). Based on the correlation of lateral and vertical stratigraphic successions, the environmental changes and character of the depostional systems are controled by sea level changes during the Late Pleistocene which were related by glacial and inter-glacial periods. Probably, after deposition of IP I, a local tectonichsve controled deplifting of the are. Keywords: Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, late Pleistocene - Holocene

Abstract

The alluvium in the Krueng Aceh valley, suggests that it is deposited in floodbasin, fluvial system, transition, and linier clastic environments. The linier clastic enviroments consists of offshore (Fellp), nearshore (Fedp), beach/ beach-ridge (Fep/ Fepp), and marsh deposits. The research was carried out by surface geological mapping and analysed sedimentology and stratigraphy of ten boreholes trending west-east to southwest and west-east to south. Depths of the boreholes varies from 2.30 to 10 m at elevation of + 0.90 - + 10 m above sea level. Based on correlation of sedimentary environment in the linier clatic environment, sea level changes can be divided into three cycles that were controlled by active tectonic of the Seulimeum fault respectively. Keywords: sedimentology, stratigraphy, alluvium

Abstract

Based on the depositional environment, the Quaternary deposits in the study area can be divided into five groups, i.e : (a) fluvial-channel deposits, (b) floodplain deposits (c) lake deposits, (d) transition/ tidal deposits, and (e) swamp deposits. Furthermore, this Quaternary deposits represent 3 (three) depositional intervals, namely Depositional Interval I-III.The development of the Quaternary environment and changes of basin fill in the research area were influenced by tectonic and climatic changes. Changes in climatological conditions, from the humid-subhumid into dry, probably due to global climatic changes following the Milankovitch cycles. While the vertical and lateral changes of environment systems could be influenced by reactivation of Singkarak-Solok fault segment. Keywords: Quaternary, tectonic, climate, environment

Abstract

Quaternary deposits of the alluvial plain to coastal plains in the Kec. Gemuruh, Kabupaten Kendal in the north-coast of Java (The Central Java Province) have been studied. The study was based on an analyses of geological surface and subsurface, especially of six boreholes information obtained along the North-South, and the penetration of the bore head varied from 2.80 to 6,65 m. These Quaternary deposits, can be devided into Members of Sandstone Damar Formation (Tpds), Damar Formation (Qtd), floodbasin and river channel deposits. Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variations of the deposition environment in the eastern part, the sediment accumulations were recognised which are related to fault activities. Whereas, the sediment accumulations in the western part influenced by normal fault. The tectonic activities which controlled the deposition processes were recorded as two stages. These were, (1)the activity of uplift fault obtained along the West to East, (2)the activity of uplift with direction West to East in the northern part followed by activity of normal fault towards almost North-South. Relative sea-level changes affect coastal-plain environment, they are influenced by local tectonic and global of sea-level changes. The tectonic activity also would cause shallowing and steepening of the depositional slope. Keywords : Quaternary sediments, tectonic, structure geology, sediment accumulation

Abstract

The Quaternary deposits in the studied area comprise sand of fluvial origines, separated by clay deposits of swamp, backswamp, and floodplain. The fluvial channel was characterized by the increase and decrease of axial bodies. Vertically, the character of fine-grained deposits showed the changing in colour and percentage of humic and peat contents. Differences in the amount of clastic supply was caused by the changes in climatological conditions. Climate is an important and independent force in controlling the weathering, erosion, and sediment supply to Quaternary deposits of swampy alluvial basin. A systematic change in the type of fluvial system on the swampy alluvial plain could be the result of the changes in the sediment supply and ratio between coarse-grained bedload and suspended load. It means, the sedimentary processes on the basin can develop under the condition of climatic changes. Key words: Quaternary deposit, fluvial, swamp, climate

Abstract

The Quaternary deposits of lake Tondano consist of Tondano tuff covered by young Volcanic rock and the Quaternary sediments. The Quaternary sediments are divided by lake, sand-lake, tidal-lake, river channel, floodplain, swamp, and flood basin deposits. In general, the sedimentary and fluctuation of lake level processes occurred in active tectonic and tectonism is the main factor controlling their occurrence. The amount of material from eruption, source area and slope gradients were important factors influencing the development of the sedimentary succession in the paleo-lake Tondano. The vertically and laterally different accumulation of sediments during the deposition into the basin, is obviously related to the regional tectonic and local volcano tectonic of the basin. Probably, changes in climatological between more humid to drier conditions occurred from unit of deposition facies II (Ufp.II) to unit of depositon facies III (Uft.III). Keywords:   Facies, sedimentation,  lake water level fluctuation,  tectonic

Abstract

The study consist of sedimentology and stratigraphy analyses of fiveteen boreholes along the NW-SE and N-S, starting from near shorelines to the southern area. The depth of bore hole varies from 9.25 to 14.80 m. The Late Pliestocene-Holocene sediments in the studied area have been correlated, using ceoss section in 1:100 scales. The sediments consist of offshore, nearshore, beach, swamp, river channel, and floodplain deposits. The study is focused in the river channels. The changing vertically and laterally of river channel show the effects of climate and tectonic. During fluvial systems (IP II and IP III) depositional process, show climatic changes on Milankovitch cycles involving a stage episode from the middle of sub-humid (D2/ late warming) to the late sub-humid (B1/ early cooling). River channel shifting due to laterally base level change is influenced by tectonic. Keywords: River channel, climate, Late Pleistocene-Holocene

Abstract

The Quatenary sediments in the studied area can be divided into fraction of coarse-grained sediments, fine-grained sediments, and both mixed grained sediment. They consist of:  (a) floodplan facies, (b) floodplain facies which are influenced by lake level rising or falling, (C) fluvial channel facies and (e) lake facies. The Quaternary sediments on margin lake Maninjau is the sedimentological response to allogenic mechanism controls. The allogenic controls are the climate, tectonics and lake level. The climate determines water and sediment as wells as the type of intervaI stratigraphic changes that can be recontructed. Tectonic and lake leveI set boundary condition to the energy of sediment supply also occurred.                Keywords: fasies, depositional environment, forming control factor
