Abstract

Latar Belakang : Obesitas adalah keadaan dimana lemak terakumulasi berlebihan dalam tubuh yang sering disertai tingginya kadar kolesterol total darah. Buah alpukat (Persea americana) mengandung omega-9 dan vitamin yang dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total darah. Tujuan : Melihat pengaruh pemberian ekstrak alpukat terhadap penurunan kadar kolesterol total darah pada tikus Wistar jantan obesitas. Metode : Penelitian ini menggunakan desain true experimental pretest-posttest with control group. Subjek penelitian adalah 32 ekor tikus wistar jantan obesitas yang sudah memenuhi kriteria Lee ( IMT > 0,3). Subjek dibagi menjadi kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol. Pemeriksaan kadar kolesterol total pre-test dilakukan sebelum perlakuan sedangkan posttest dilakukan setelah perlakuan. Kelompok perlakuan diberikan esktrak alpukat, sementara kelompok kontrol tidak diberikan. Analisis data menggunakan uji T berpasangan dan tidak berpasangan untuk melihat perbedaan kadar kolesterol total pada kedua kelompok. Hasil : Hasil penelitian didapati IMT rerata kelompok perlakuan 0,4763 dan IMT rerata kelompok kontrol 0,4831. Rerata kadar kolesterol kelompok perlakuan pretest 104,58mg/dL dan posttest 85 mg/dL. Kemudian kelompok kontrol pretest 101,68 mg/dL dan posttest 98,56 mg/dL. Pada kelompok perlakuan didapati perbedaan signifikan pada rerata kadar kolesterol total pretest dan posttest dengan nilai p = 0,000 (p<0,05). Dijumpai perbedaan rerata kadar kolesterol total posttest pada kelompok perlakuan lebih rendah dari pada kelompok kontrol, dengan nilai p = 0,001 (p<0,05). Kesimpulan : Pemberian ekstrak alpukat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total darah tikus Wistar jantan obesitas. Kata Kunci : Alpukat (Persea americana), kolesterol total, tikus wistar, obesitas.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Social media is an inseparable component of human life, included medical students. Social media usage has both positive and negative benefits. Several studies showed excessive use of social media can cause mental health problems, such us depression. This study aims to evaluated the correlation between the intensity of social media use and the degree of depressive symptoms in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of HKBP Nommensen. Methods: Analytical observational study with cross-sectional design was conducted on 101 students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of HKBP Nommensen using questionnaires such us Social Networking Time Use Scale (SONTUS) to measure the intensity of social media use, and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) to assess the degree of depressive symptoms. Data analysis were done by using the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient test. Results: This study showed that 38.6% respondents had low intensity, 41.6% medium intensity, and 19.8% respondents had high intensity of social media usage. There were 81.2% of respondent had no depression, 10.9% had mild depression, 5.9% moderate depression, and 2.0% severe depression. The Spearman test results showed that there is no correlation between the intensity of social media usage and the degree of depressive symptoms (p = 0.882) with a very weak correlation value (r = 0.015). Conclusion: There is no correlation between the intensity of social media use and the degree of depressive symptoms in the Faculty of Medicine, University of HKBP Nommensen students. Abstract

Introduction: Medical faculty students have a heavy educational burden because they are required to have the ability to take lessons in order to produce qualified doctors. The competency- based curriculum (CBC) used at the Faculty of Medicine increases the educational load of medical students because there is a compaction of assignments and lecture schedules. This makes them even more stressed and spends their time studying late at night which has a negative impact on health and sleep quality. This study aims to determine the relationship between stress and sleep quality in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of HKBP Nommensen. Methods: The research sample was 97 FK UHKBPN students in the undergraduate medical stage who met the criteria. Data were collected by giving the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS 42) questionnaire to assess stress and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire to assess sleep quality. The relationship between stress and sleep quality was analyzed using Fisher exact test. Results: The results of this study showed that out of 97 respondents, most of them did not experience stress (80.4%) and most had poor sleep quality (84.5%). The results of univariate analysis showed that in 2019’s and 2020’s class, had the highest stress and the worst quality of sleep. The results of the Fisher exact test showed a significant relationship between stress and sleep quality (p = 0.037). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between stress and sleep quality in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of HKBP Nommensen Keywords: Stress, Medical Students, Sleep Quality

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Infections and antimicrobial resistance remains a major public health worldwide. Therefore, studies regarding the natural therapeutic agent that is safe for humans and specific against bacteria are getting more interest. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of combination red ginger and garlic extract against Streptococcus pyogenes. Methods: This was a laboratory experimental study. The red ginger and garlic extract obtained by maceration extraction method using 70% ethanol and antibacterial activity test was conducted by disk diffusion method. Results: : One way Anova test showed that red ginger extract in 75% and 100% concetrations have significant difference with the control. Garlic extract in 75% and 100% concentrations have significant difference with the control. The higher concentration result wider inhibition zona hambat both in red ginger and garlic extract. Otherwise, red ginger- garlic combination extract showed no significant difference with the control. The widest mean inhibitioin was shown in R50-G50 extract combination which is 2.45mm (±0.3). Post hoc LSD test showed that red ginger 100% that has significant difference with red ginger 25%, so did garlic extract. There was no significant difference between red ginger-garlic combination groups. Conclusion: Red ginger and garlic extract has no synergic effect against Streptococcus pyogenes.

Abstract

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, 1086 pregnant women and 302 babies died from COVID-19 infection in 2021. The high mortality rate affecting ANC visits was seen from the decrease in ANC coverage, influenced by knowledge, attitudes, and anxiety. Objective: To see if there is a relationship between social distancing and the incidence of COVID-19. Methods: This study was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample selection used the snowball sampling method, and 222 samples were obtained which were assessed using an online questionnaire via google form. Results: The 83,3% of respondents did not obey physical distancing and 11,7% of respondents were classified as COVID-19 incidents. Data analysis with Fisher's exact test obtained p value = 0,089 (p> 0,05). Conclusion: There is no relationship between the level of compliance with physical distancing and the incidence of COVID-19 in Medan. Keywords: COVID-19, level of compliance, incidence of COVID-19
