Abstract

Background Obesity is a global health problem. This conditionmay cause negative impacts on children's cognitive function. Early detection of obesity may lessen these impacts.Objective To determine the relationship between obesity statusand cognitive intelligence in children.Methods A cross sectional study was conducted for two months0 une to July 2008) on 7'h grade students at three Junior HighSchools in the Wenang subdistrict of Manado City, Indonesia.We included children aged 12-13 years, registered in 2007-2008,who gave parental consent, and who suffered from obstructivesleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and hypertension. We excludedchildren who were sick at the time of the study, suffered fromepilepsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),congenital heart disease, or malnutrition. Data were analyzedusing Somers' D Test.Results There were 52 boys out of 100 subjects studied. Fifty eight students (58%) had a normal BMI, and 42 were obese (36 with mild obesity, and 6 with moderate obesity). Out of the 42 obese students, 1 o/o had a defective IQ, 1 o/o had a below average IQ, 22% had an average IQ, 7% had an above average IQ and 11 o/o had a superior IQ. From 58 subjects with a normal BMI, none had a below average IQ, 20% had an average IQ, 18% had an above average, and 20% had a superior IQ. The mean IQ scores for obese and non-obese subjects were 108.7 and 114.1 respectively.Conclusion Obesity has relationship with cognitive intelligencein junior high school students.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Mahasiswa kedokteran dengan jumlah jam pelajaran yang banyak, dan tuntutan akademik yang tinggi merupakan faktor terjadinya perubahan pola makan, dan asupan yang buruk serta aktifitas fisik yang kurang, akibatnya dapat meningkatkan resiko penyakit kardiovaskuler pada saat dewasa nanti karena kaitannya dengan penyakit metabolic sindrom, bila tidak dideteksi sejak dini dan diintervensi dengan baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur hubungan antara konsumsi fast food, makanan/minuman manis dan aktifitas fisik dengan kadar gula darah dan status gizi Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi.  Metode Penelitian: Jenis penelitian ini yaitu penelitian observasional analitik dengan pendekatan cross-sectional study. Jumlah responden sebanyak 140 mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi. Variabel yang diteliti yaitu konsumsi fast food, makanan/ minuman manis, aktifitas fisik (variabel bebas) dan kadar gula darah dan status gizi (variabel terikat) Data diperoleh dengan mengukur asupan makanan (kuesioner food recall 3 x 24 hour), mengukur status gizi (Indeks Masa Tubuh), dan mengukur aktifitas fisik (kuesioner PAR yang dimodifikasi). Data dianalisis secara univariat dan bivariat. Hasil Penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, status gizi normal 98 responden, status gizi gemuk, 114 responden sering mengkonsumsi makanan/minuman manis, 51 responden sering konsumsi fast food, 17 responden beraktifitas fisik ringan, 11 responden dengan kadar gula darah hiperglikemik. Hasil uji bivariat menunjukkan terdapat korelasi positif antara konsumsi fast food dengan status gizi (p=0,041; R=0,628); tidak terdapat kolerasi antara konsumsi fast food dengan kadar gula darah (p=0,524; R=0,056); kolerasi positif antara makanan/ minuman manis dengan status gizi (p=0,000; R=0,141); tidak terdapat kolerasi antara makanan/minuman manis dengan kadar gula darah (p=0,116; R=0,134); terdapat kolerasi positif antara aktifitas fisik dengan status gizi (p=0,046; R=0,169); terdapat kolerasi antara aktifitas fisik dengan kadar gula darah (p=0,018; R=0,200). Kesimpulan: Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu terdapat korelasi positif antara konsumsi fast food, makanan/minuman manis dan aktifitas fisik terhadap status gizi, dan terdapat kolerasi positif antara aktifitas fisik dengan kadar gula darah.

Abstract

Background: The low understanding of mothers, families and the community about the importance of breastfeeding for babies and the absence of support or regulations at the district / city level has resulted in the exclusive breastfeeding program not running well. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of Government Regulation No. 33/2012 concerning the Giving of Exclusive Asi in Bitung City. Method: This research uses qualitative research methods, using primary data and secondary data. The informants in this study were 13 people. The method of research is through in-depth interviews and document observation, then recorded in the form of a transcript and then the data is presented in a matrix. The data were analyzed using source triangulation, method triangulation, and data triangulation techniques. Results: The results show that there are no regulations that support the implementation of PP 33 of 2012 on exclusive breastfeeding in Bitung City, there are no trained counselors, information about exclusive breastfeeding is still lacking, Posyandu cadres have not been involved in providing outreach on exclusive breastfeeding, lack of supervision as well as guidance for midwives so that there is still the sale of formula milk to breastfeeding mothers, the availability of nursing room facilities / facilities is not evenly distributed because it is only at the puskesmas level. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research is that the implementation of the policy on exclusive breastfeeding in the city of Bitung has not yet been implemented in accordance with Government Regulation number 33 of 2012.
