Abstract

Abstract In this study, the researcher used method Classroom Action Research (CAR) to improve the quality of the learning and teaching processes as well as to detect and solving the problems that found in the teaching and learning process. The subjects of this research were the 34 students in SMK Budi Bhakti Utama Padalarang. The researcher used collaborative action research with some English teachers in the school. In this study, the researcher using the instruments interview and questionnaire test to collecting the data. The test that given to students is pre test and also post test in the and of the class or after the students has a treatment. In this result of the study showed the mean score of pretest is 62.02 to 64.00 and post test’s score reached up to 79.00. It is important to describe that there is a significant improvement of the test. Therefore, the criteria of success had been determined. It is crucial to remember that communicative games have contributed and positive impact on teaching and learning process. The communicative games like snowball throwing game expected to enhance students’ motivation and enthusiasm in learning English. Clearly, It gives positive improvement on students’ confidence and their fluency in speaking skill. Abstract

The use of technology has become an essential element in teaching and learning process. Usually, each language class uses some type of technology tools that are used to support and enhance language learning. They are tools to help teachers facilitate their students' language learning. This research focuses on the role of technology in learning English as a foreign and second language. It addresses the significance of technology that allows English language learners to develop their learning abilities. In this paper, the researchers describe the term technology integration,  of technology, explain the use of technology in the language classroom, discuss the advantages and challenges of technology integration, and provide some suggestions for better use of these technologies to help learners develop their learning abilities.

Abstract

English is an international language learned in Indonesia. One of the difficulties of student learning is when learning to read. They tend to read without knowing the meaning of the text they are reading. On this occasion the researcher tried to teach comprehension reading using cooperative learning through jeopardy games to increase students’ interest and ability in learning reading comprehension. In addition, researchers also want to find out what difficulties students face when learning to use jeopardy game through this jeopardy game. This research was conducted on students of class VIII E Semester 1 SMPN 1 Cililin which consists of 36 students. This research was conducted using the Classroom Action Research (CAR). From the results of the pretest and posttest, there were 20 pretest results from 36 students or 56% who succeeded in reaching the minimal completeness criteria. Whereas in the posttest there was an increase to 28 out of 36 students or 78,85% who successfully reached the minimal completeness criteria. Then it can be concluded the use of games in learning increases the ability of students in reading comprehension. However, there are some students who still find it difficult to learn to use this method because their vocabulary mastery is still lacking. Keywords:  Reading Comprehension, Cooperative Learning, Jeopardy Game

Abstract

This research is based on the use of the Memrise application in a vocabulary study of seventh-grade students. This research was carried out based on a preliminary study which showed that students had difficulty learning English because of the lack of understanding of the vocabulary they had, and the method used by the teacher to teach vocabulary is still in a conventional way. The subjects of this study were 35 students consisting of 28 male and 10 female seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Cililin. The purpose of this study is to improve students' understanding and achievement of vocabulary through the use of the Memrise application. Vocabulary tests and questionnaires were used as the instruments of eliciting the data. The results of the test and questionnaire study showed an increase in grades, and students' interest and motivation after using the memrise application in vocabulary learning. From the results obtained, it was concluded that memrise application is recommended to be used as an alternative method in teaching vocabulary. Besides students, with this Memrise application, it can add to the teacher's insight about the use of methods in teaching in the classroom.

Abstract

Seperti diketahui bersama bahwa kebutuhan peserta didik di SMP adalah untuk lulus UN, sehingga para guru bahasa Inggris tidak terlalu fokus pada keterampilan menulis. Target khusus yang diharapkan adalah para guru bahasa Inggris dapat merasakan manfaat dari Flash Card (kartu kata) sebagai Alat Permainan Edukatif (APE) pada pembelajaran keterampilan menulis. Metode pengabdian ini melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu : a) tahap analisa, b) tahap perancangan dan pengembangan konten, c) tahap pelaksanaan  dan d) tahap pelatihan. Tahap pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah memaparkan tentang pentingnya APE dalam pengajaran menulis. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan membagi para guru bahasa Inggris dalam sepuluh kelompok dengan tujuan agar mereka mencoba membuat APE menggunakan bahan yang sudah tersedia. Selanjutnya, dilaksanakan workshop menggunakan alat dan bahan yang mudah didapat di sekitar. Untuk menunjukkan hasil dari pengabdian dalam khalayak penggiat ilmu, maka dilakukankan pembuatan jurnal dan publikasi ilmiah. Setelah merasakan manfaatnya, diharapkan mereka dapat mengaplikasikan dalam pengajaran writing. Hasil yang tampak dari pengabdian ini adalah para  guru memiliki motivasi yang lebih tinggi manakala mengetahui bahwa metode mengajar bisa lebih variatif dengan cara berkreasi menggunakan bahan yang mudah didapat menjadi sebuah media atau alat permainan edukatif seperti kartu kata atau flash cards.   Kata Kunci : game, APE, Flash Card, guru Bahasa Inggris, keterampilan menulis
