Abstract

This study was aimed at the investigation to know-how are the students' perceptions about oral corrective feedback given by the teacher in the EFL Public Speaking course. This study was mixed method. The research sample of this study was the 5th-semester students of the public speaking course in the academic year 2020/2021 of IAIN Palangka Raya. Questionnaire and interview were used as the instruments. The data were analyzed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel software. The result showed that: (1) Students feel oral corrective feedback is necessary and helpful in the public speaking course and they are learned a lot from oral corrective feedback because there were 25 students who chose to answer Agree (72%) and Strongly Agree (20%). (2) Students accept all kinds of oral corrective feedback by the teacher because 52-76% of students agree to all kinds of oral corrective feedback. (3) Students prefer all ways to deliver oral corrective feedback because 52-72% of students agree to all methods to delivering oral corrective feedback. (4) Students feel motivated, comfortable, and being happy by oral corrective feedback because 88% of students agree that they feel motivated and 80% of students feel happy and comfortable by oral corrective feedback. Keywords:  Students Perception, Oral Corrective Feedback, EFL Students, Public Speaking Course

Abstract

This study aimed to know how are the Students’ Perceptions of using Google Translate as media for assisting independent learning in Vocabulary class. This study was qualitative research methodology, by study case. Subject of the study in this research was the first semester students of Vocabulary class English Education Study Program of IAIN Palangka Raya. The total of the students are 57 students and the researcher took 11 students as the subjects of this research by Purposive Sampling. For the data collection; first, the researcher used the observation checklist. Second, the researcher continued with the interview instrument. The interview has 14 questions with 3 topics; students’ personality, students’ motivation and students experience. Next, researcher analyzed the data as qualitative data from interview which has been collected and using documentation to strengthen the data such as pictures screenshot of interviews in WhatsApp and Zoom Application. Based on the research problem, it can be concluded that the using of Google Translate as a media for assisting students independent learning in vocabulary class are very helpul, effective and students also feel their vocabulary increased and they motivated in the teaching learning process. And considering the conclusions drawn above, it implies that the use of Google Translate can be used to help or support independent learning and also beneficial media for students, Google Translate help them to translate English material quickly and easily. Keywords:  Perceptions, Google Translate, Vocabulary, Independent Learning, Case Study

Abstract

This study was from the real phenomenon which showed that students were using google translate as media to improve their writing ability and learning motivation. The main problem was students’ lack of vocabulary and they wanted fast and instant translation. As a result, they preferred using google translate than doing their writing ability. The purpose of this research is to measure the correlation between students’ writing ability and learning motivation in google translate writing class of 2nd semester English education study program at IAIN Palangka Raya. This research was a correlational study using quantitative research method. Learning Motivation Questionnaire and Descriptive Text Writing Test were distributed to take the data from 58 student from 2nd semester in academic year 2020/2021 who took paragraph writing class. The sample was obtained through the use of the cluster random sampling technique. The result finding showed the calculation students’ writing ability and learning motivation was rvalue = 0.617 ≥ rtable = 0.258 and tvalue = 5.867118 ≥ ttable = 1.67252),  it meant that Ha accepted and Ho rejected. In this case students’ writing ability had high relationship or gave influence to learning motivation in google translate class. Keywords:  Correlation, Writing Ability, Learning Motivation, Google Translate
