Abstract

Corn cobs (Zea mays L.) can be used as sunscreen because it contains phenolic compounds. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of the physical and chemical properties of sunscreen lotion preparations of corncob ethanol extract and the formula and concentration that had the highest effectiveness in the value of Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The lotion was chosen because it is a topical preparation that is often used by the community. Corn cob powder was extracted by the maceration method. The results were formulated with extract concentrations, formulation I (5%), formulation II (10%), and formulation III (15%). The three formulas were tested for organoleptic, pH test, homogeneity, and lotion type. The resulting data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that all formulas with varying concentrations of extracts had good physicochemical characteristics during storage based on the results of pH, homogeneity, organoleptic, and emulsion-type tests. Corncob ethanol extract sunscreen lotion in Formula 1 (5%) has an SPF value of 2 (UV-A rays) and an SPF value of 7 (UV-B rays). Formula 2 (10%) has an SPF value of 2,3 (UV-A rays) and has an SPF value of 9 (UV-B rays) and Formula 3 (15%) has an SPF value of 3 (UV-A rays) and has a value of SPF 12 (UV-B Rays).

Abstract

Legundi leaves (Vitextrifolia L.) contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids and saponins, tannins, steroids/triterpenoidsthatact as antiseptic substancesandaid in the wound healing process. Staphylococcusepidermidis (Gram positive) is a mild skin infection-causing bacteria that accompanies the formation of abscesses. As for the purpose of this study To know the absence of antibacterial activity from concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% legundileaf extractagainst Staphylococcus epidermid is bacteria and know the effective concentration of legunleaf extract in in hibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. This research methoduses experimental methods and legundileaf extract with concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%. The resultsshowedthatconcentrationsof 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% of legundileaf ethanol extract had antibacterial activity against the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidisindicated with a blockable zone diameter of 8 mm, 8.84 mm, 9.84 mm, 10.54 mm, respectively. Base dont here search that has beendone can be concluded that legundileaf extractcan inhibit the growth of bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis, because around the discpaperthere is a clear zone that indicates the absence of bacterial growth.

Abstract

The rhizome is part of the plant for food reserves, including storing carbohydrates (starch), therefore rhizomes of Galangal, Curcuma, Fingerroot rhizome can be used as a source of starch. This study used an exploratory method which included isolation of starch from Galangal, Curcuma, Fingerroot Rhizome, macroscopic examination, microscopic examination, sample collection, sample processing, and examination of the characterization of starch. The results of starch characterization obtained yields for Galangal starch 2.6%, Curcuma starch 5.4%, Fingerroot rhizome starch 4.1%; determination of total ash content for Galangal starch 1.4%; Curcuma starch 2.0%, Fingerroot rhizome starch 1.0%; determination of drying shrinkage for 1.8% Galangal starch, 2.4% Curcuma starch, 3.2% Fingerroot rhizome starch; determination of acid-insoluble ash content for 0.6% Galangal starch, 0.7% Curcuma starch, 0.7%Fingerroot rhizome starch.
