Abstract

The research about the effects of sodium alginate as the polymer to found a stable physical characteristic of microparticles of mulberry leaves (Morus alba L) has been conducted. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Na.alginate as the polymer to the physical characteristics of microparticles of M.alba. In this research, the formulation M. alba leaves in the form of microparticles in which the sodium alginate as a polymer with cross connector CaCl2. Microparticles with an ionic gelation method by dispersing mulberry leaf-sodium alginate into a solution of CaCl2. Formula microparticles made with mulberry leaves concentration ratio of sodium alginate (1: 1); (1: 1.5), and (1: 2). Microparticles characterized physically by the size, shape, and appearance by using SEM (scanning electron microscopy), and the adsorption efficiency. The yield on mulberry leaves microparticles obtained are not spherical morphology SEM and entrapment efficiency data cannot be calculated.

Abstract

Collagenase is an enzyme family of Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) that breaks down collagen and degrade the extracellular matrix resulting in wrinkles and changes in skin thickness. This study was aimed to determine the value of inhibition concentration of flower extracts of broccoli (Brassica oleocera L. var Italica), carrot extract (Daucus Carota L.) and extract of chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) as collagenase inhibitor. Collagenase inhibitory activity was determined by measuring the product resulted from the reaction of enzyme and substrate using a microplate reader at λ 345 nm. Results showed that the inhibition of the flowers of broccoli, carrot and chili pepper ekstrak were 88.49%; 53.96% and 89.21% at a concentration of 250 ug / ml.

Abstract

Utilization of Arachis hypogaea L. which has the potential as antibacterial. This is due to the presence of compounds that have the potential to be antibacterial, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids and tannins. This study aims to determine the activity, formulation, and evaluation of preparations and to test the effectiveness of liquid soap preparations from ethanol extract of peanut outer shells against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 70% ethanol, testing for antibacterial activity using agar diffusion method and then formulated using surfactant variations and evaluating preparations including organoleptic, testing pH, specific gravity, viscosity, and foam height and testing the effectiveness of liquid soap. The results showed that the extract yield was 6.5%. The results of the One-Way ANOVA data analysis on the antibacterial activity test showed that there were differences between the various treatments with a value of p=0.000 (p>0.05). The evaluation results of soap show that the three formulas meet SNI standards. And for the results of the LSD analysis, the data on the effectiveness of liquid soap preparations showed that the value of p=0.334 means that Formula 1 and 2 are not significant (p>0.05) and formulas 2 and 3 are significant with p=0.042 (p<0.05). The effectiveness of liquid soap from the peanut outer shell waste extract was influenced by the surfactant concentration.
