Abstract

This study aims at determining the level of students' social skills and the relationship between the social skills and learning outcomes of the basic chemistry student course in the first semester of the Biology Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Mataram. The sample of this study was saturated consisted of 49 students. This study is descriptive quantitative research with quantitative correlational design, and data collection techniques were conducted by giving research instruments in the form of questionnaires. The results showed that the first-semester student had social skills mainly in the moderate category (59.18%). There was a positive and significant relationship between social skills and students' learning outcomes. The value of the coefficient of determination of X2 against Y (r2x2y) is 0.400. It shows that the social skill variable contributes to chemistry learning achievement by 40%, while other variables determine 60%.

Abstract

This research studies the efficient method for heavy metal analysis in marine fish samples by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The dissolution of the samples used the wet destruction technique in 2 ways. The first method uses a mixture of HNO3, H2SO4, HClO4 (1:2:1), and the second method uses a mixture of HNO3and H2SO4 (1:1). Tuna (Euthynnus affinis) was taken as Marine fish samples. The results showed that the first method took 180 minutes with a % recovery of 98.79% - 99.55%. In contrast, the second method took 240 minutes and a % recovery of 98.08% - 98.45%. The results of measurements by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) using standard calibration curve and standard addition techniques are as follows: using standard regression curve technique obtained Pb (0.664 ± 0.067) mg/kg, Cu (2.780 ± 0.01) mg/kg, Cd (0.192 ± 0.044) mg/kg, and Zn (1.824 ± 0.075) mg/kg, while the standard addition method obtained Pb (0.612 ± 0.016) mg/kg, Cu (2.364 ± 0.016) mg/kg, Cd (0.148 ± 0.029) mg/kg and Zn (1.692 ± 0.016) mg/kg. The calculation of the level of accuracy of the analysis showed that the standard addition method RSD gave a precision value of 0.97% - 3.76% and the standard curve method RSD with a precision of 5.76% - 31.77%. In conclusion, (1) Heavy metal content in tuna (Euthynnus affinis) is still within the permissible limits. (2) wet digestion technique using a mixture of HNO3, H2SO4, HClO4 (1:2:1) can be more efficient. (3) The measurement results of the standard addition method give more precise results

Abstract

This study aims to screen antioxidant compounds from the renggak plant (Amomum dealbatum R.). Screening of phytochemicals was carried out on the leaves and peel of the renggak fruit by the extraction method using ethanol and methanol solvents. Extraction was carried out by maceration, and the antioxidant potential test was carried out by measuring the extract's scavenging activity against DPPH radicals. In the fruit peel, both ethanol and methanol extracts tested positive for all phytochemicals, while in the leaves, ethanol extract was positive only for tannins and alkaloids, and methanol extract for flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids. The difference in results was caused by differences in solvent polarity. The results of the antioxidant test showed that the leaf extract had an IC₅₀ value of 44.31 µM, while the fruit peel extract had an IC₅₀ value of 144.57 µM. The lower IC₅₀ value in the leaf extract indicates that the bioactive compounds contained therein have higher antioxidant potential than the fruit peel, as they can inhibit 50% of free radical activity at lower concentrations. The results of this study provide additional phytochemical and antioxidant sources from plant sources, for use as raw materials in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
