Abstract

The abundantly harvested dragon fruit has encouraged the people at Batuah Village to make secondary product, in order to avoiding loss because the fruit is rotten, such as the dragon fruit crackers. Nowdays, the product has already marketed in the Mercure-Ibis Samarinda hotel chain. For the purpose it is considered important for the products to have good packaging. Therefore, the community service team do the coaching on how to make basic packaging design. The coaching trainee is taught on how to make packaging design from existed packaging pattern and then adjust it to the size of their products. The trainee was also taught on how to make simple design with design software. The results are that the trainee can make packaging design which the design and size are already adjusted with their product’s needs.

Abstract

Sidomulyo Village is one of the villages in Anggana District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. To alleviate poverty in Sidomulyo Village, many millennial farmers have emerged, one of which is the Independent Farmer Youth Group with rice as a potential commodity. One of the agricultural products from this group is rice with several varieties including Mikongga and Mayas Rapak with each harvest reaching 3-4 tons/ha. The rice produced is very abundant but does not yet have a brand and label on the packaging. Based on this condition, the solution that can be offered to the Mandiri Tani Pemuda Group is training in making labels on plastic packaging for rice using manual screen-printing techniques. The method used is the lecture method and training in manual screen printing for plastic packaging for rice. The result of this training is that all participants can make rice packaging labels by manual screen printing.

Abstract

The design of this comic, set against the backdrop of the historic Sanga Sanga struggle in East Kalimantan, is part of a strategic effort to provide contextual and engaging educational media for the younger generation. This comic is designed to enhance students' understanding of local history while instilling nationalistic values through a communicative visual and narrative approach. The design process employed a descriptive qualitative method with a practice-based model. Research. The design stage begins with identifying the objectives and target audience, followed by field observations, collecting historical data and location documentation, and conducting literature studies related to the Palagan Sanga Sanga incident. January 27, 1947. The results of this research were then transformed into a story script and dialogue relevant to young readers, followed by the development of representative character designs and visual styles. The next process included storyboarding, panel layouts, illustrations and coloring, as well as graphic elements such as typography and narrative text. The final stage, a limited trial with students and teachers, was conducted to obtain feedback on readability, visual appeal, and the effectiveness of the message conveyed. Through this approach, comics not only become a means of preserving local history, but also a learning medium capable of connecting the younger generation with the values of struggle, patriotism, and love of the homeland in a more relevant and meaningful way
