Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of sustainable tourism on the social, economic, and environmental aspects of the community in the Tebing Keraton tourist area, Bandung. As a popular natural tourist destination since 2014, Tebing Keraton has experienced rapid growth due to increased social media exposure. This study used a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with five tourists and one local resident as informants. The results indicate that socially, the local community is perceived as friendly and has a positive attitude towards tourists, creating a harmonious relationship between residents and visitors. From an economic perspective, this tourism has also opened up business opportunities and increased community income, although the distribution is not yet equitable. Meanwhile, from an environmental perspective, some tourists consider the area to be not yet completely clean, but the natural environment is still relatively well preserved. A significant problem arises from the minimal involvement of the local community in tourism management, as expressed by a local community leader, Abah Ase, who feels marginalized despite being the founder of Tebing Keraton. He also highlighted changes in operating hours, which have resulted in a decline in tourist numbers and community income. This research emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government, managers, and the community in realizing sustainable tourism that prioritizes not only economic growth but also environmental preservation and social justice. Participatory and inclusive strategies are needed, including through the role of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), to ensure that the benefits of tourism are fully felt by the local community.

Abstract

Muslim-friendly tourism (halal tourism) has become a global trend in line with the increasing number of Muslim tourists, both domestic and international. Ir. H. Djuanda Grand Forest Park (Tahura Djuanda), located in Bandung, is a popular natural and educational tourism destination frequently visited by Muslim travelers, yet it has not obtained official certification as a halal tourism destination. This condition raises a question of how far the available Muslim-friendly services can influence Muslim tourists’ perceptions. This study aims to analyze the effect of Muslim-friendly tourism services on the perceptions of Muslim tourists visiting Tahura Djuanda. The research employed a quantitative descriptive and inferential method with a population of 258,975 domestic tourists who visited during January–June 2025. The sample size was determined using Slovin’s formula, resulting in 100 respondents, with 59 valid responses collected through an online questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27, including validity, reliability, and normality tests, as well as Spearman’s Rho correlation test. The findings reveal a significant relationship between Muslim-friendly tourism services (accommodation, halal restaurants, worship facilities, halal-supporting amenities, and tour guides’ understanding) and Muslim tourists’ perceptions, which cover aspects of self, perception targets, and environmental situations. Therefore, the better the Muslim-friendly services provided, the more positive the tourists’ perceptions of Tahura Djuanda. These findings highlight the importance of implementing Muslim-friendly tourism as a strategy to improve visitor satisfaction and strengthen the competitiveness of tourism destinations.

Abstract

The background of this study is the increasing psychological pressure, stress, and anxiety among Generation Z due to intense social media exposure, academic and career competition, and rapidly changing social dynamics. The Wellness Tourism program that integrates elements of nature, art, connection with the earth, and emotional management is believed to be an alternative holistic approach to improving the mental resilience and psychological well-being of this generation. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the program is effective in influencing aspects of the mentality of Generation Z, which include self-confidence, emotional stability, self-awareness, and a positive life orientation. This study uses qualitative methods. The results show that this activity invited several generation Z communities in Bandung to take part in wellness tourism art, ear and emotion activities. The concept of wellness tourism at this time is very useful for the sustainability of public health, especially generations. The community service program that focuses on the Z generation aims to increase awareness of the environment related to the state of the natural environment that needs to be preserved, then maintain and relax mental health for the generation from their busy schedule to enjoy the beauty and pleasant natural atmosphere. This program is divided into three stages, namely preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. This wellness tourism program can be implemented well because generation z has better post-test scores than the pretest.

Abstract

Cibodas Tourism Park is a popular natural tourist destination in West Java with the potential to develop the Muslim-Friendly Tourism (MWT) concept, given the high number of Muslim tourists visiting. However, the destination currently lacks official MWT certification, necessitating a study to determine the level of implementation of the concept based on tourist perceptions. This study aims to analyse the implementation of MWT across four main dimensions: accessibility, communication, supporting environment, and services, and to measure their significance against the neutral category standard. The research method used was a descriptive quantitative approach, with data collected through questionnaires from 100 tourist respondents. Data were analysed using a one-sample t-test with a benchmark value of 3 (the "sufficient" category). The results showed that the overall average score of tourists' perceptions of MWT at Cibodas Tourism Park was 3.98, with a significance value <0.05, significantly above the neutral category. Specifically, the accessibility dimension scored 4.02; communication 3.95; supporting environment 3.91; and service 4.05. These data indicate that the available facilities and services are sufficient to accommodate the needs of Muslim tourists, although improvements are still needed in terms of promotion, the addition of halal facilities, and the strengthening of tourism information. These findings indicate that Cibodas Tourism Park has significant potential to be developed as a leading Muslim-Friendly Tourism destination in West Java.

Abstract

Halal tourism is a rapidly growing sector globally, with Muslim tourist trips projected to reach 230 million by 2028, according to the 2023 Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI). Indonesia, as a predominantly Muslim country, has significant potential to develop halal-compliant tourist destinations, including West Java, which boasts rich tourism potential. One such destination is the Summarecon Modern Market, renowned for its beauty and uniqueness. This study aims to analyse the potential of the Summarecon Modern Market as a halal tourism destination based on four GMTI indicators: accessibility, communication, environment, and services. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative case study approach, where data were collected through in-depth interviews with managers, tourists, and vendors, as well as direct on-site observation. The results indicate that the Summarecon Modern Market excels in accessibility with easy transportation and ample parking facilities, a clean environment, and friendly and responsive service. However, there are still shortcomings in the communication of halal information, which has not been communicated strategically, and the low number of vendors with halal certification. Based on these findings, strengthening halal literacy among business actors, improving public information regarding halal facilities, and implementing halal certification assistance programs are needed to enhance the competitiveness of Summarecon Modern Market in the national and global halal tourism markets.

Abstract

The significant growth of Indonesia’s tourism sector in recent years, including the development of community-based mass tourism destinations, underscores the need to evaluate the effectiveness of government budget allocations in supporting sustainability principles. This study aims to analyze the impact of government budget allocation policies on the management of sustainable tourism at the Kampung Pelangi 200 tourist destination in Bandung City. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that budget allocations directed toward infrastructure development, environmental sanitation, and community engagement have had a positive impact on the destination’s visual appeal, visitor comfort, and local economic growth, particularly in the MSME sector. Kampung Pelangi 200 has successfully become a clean, aesthetically appealing, and inclusive tourist destination through a collaborative approach involving local government, the community, and business actors. This success highlights the importance of structured budget management that is responsive to local needs and oriented toward environmental and social sustainability. The study concludes that budget policies focused on participatory and sustainable aspects can serve as a foundation for an inclusive and competitive tourism management model. The implications call for the strengthening of public policies that ensure equitable distribution of tourism benefits and the long-term viability of community-based destination development.

Abstract

This research investigates the socio-cultural impacts of tourism in the Batu Kuda tourist area, Bandung Regency, focusing on how interactions between tourists and local residents influence cultural values. Batu Kuda, known for its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere, has experienced a steady rise in tourist visits, leading to both economic benefits and cultural transformations within the local community. The study aims to analyze the positive and negative cultural impacts of tourism activities and to explore community responses to these changes. Additionally, it seeks to provide recommendations for tourism managers and village authorities to help maintain a balance between tourism development and cultural preservation. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, including tourism managers, MSME operators, village officials, and tourists, conducted directly at the site. Thematic analysis revealed that increased tourism has positively contributed to community income and entrepreneurial growth, particularly in the MSME sector. However, it has also led to shifts in social values, including decreased cultural awareness, adoption of external lifestyle trends, and rising environmental concerns. While some community members demonstrate awareness and adaptability, others remain unprepared for these shifts. The study concludes that promoting sustainable tourism requires a management strategy rooted in local wisdom, alongside educational initiatives for tourists, to safeguard cultural identity and ensure long-term environmental and cultural sustainability.

Abstract

The need to evaluate the extent to which public budget policies impact the empowerment of community groups in sustainable tourism serves as the background for this study, particularly in the Situ Cileunca area of Bandung Regency, which is experiencing growth as a nature-based tourism destination. The objective of this research is to understand the impact of budget allocation policies in the tourism sector on surrounding communities in social, economic, and environmental aspects. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation and interviews with tourists, local MSME actors/vendors, and non-managing residents. The findings indicate that regional government budget policies have had a positive impact on the development of public facilities and community empowerment, although support remains uneven, especially in the provision of information boards and waste management systems. MSME actors reported increased income due to the rise in tourist visits; however, most have yet to receive training, outreach, or direct assistance from the government. These findings underscore the need for more responsive budget policies that comprehensively prioritize local community empowerment. The implications of this study include contributions to the literature on sustainable tourism and policy recommendations for tourism development that is more inclusive, adaptive, and socially just.
