Abstract

This research aims to describe an increase the activity of learning and concept understanding of physics science by application the concept teaching model to the concept attainment approach on the subject matter work and energy.  The research is classroom action research with the subject is grade VIIIF SMPN 5 Kendari which consisting of 33 students. Data obtained from the observation sheet and the concept understanding tests. Technique of data analysis is calculates the average score learning activities, the average value of the concept understanding and determine student learning success each cycle. Results of the research that this approach can increase the activity of student learning and concept understanding of physics science at students. An average score of learning in cycle I of a 2,8 increase to 3,5 on cycle II. The same as,  the average value of concept understanding physics science in cycle I of 66,9 increased to 79,2 on cycle II. The percentage of student learning success is also on the cycle I of 48,5% increase to 87,9% in cycle II, with a value of KKM determinated from school of 70. Thus, the application of the concept attainment approach is one of the right alternative solutions to increase of the students concept understanding of physics science especially on the subject matter work and energy. Therefore, expected that teacher can implemented the concept attainment approach in concept physics that contains the definition of the concept, characteristics, atributtes and relationships between concepts are the students more easily understand the concept  of physics well.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe the physics learning difficulties of students of class VIII in the Junior High School 1 Pomalaa.; and (2) describing any factors that cause learning difficulties Physics learners in class VIII Junior High School 1 Pomala. Subjects in this study were all learners VIIIA class and VIIID Junior High School 1 Pomalaa the second semester with the topic learning in motion and force. The research instrument consisted of multi-representation ability tests and interviews and then analyzed descriptively using a quantitative approach. Data analysis results obtained:  The ability of multi-representation of students in the topic of motion and force is still relatively low with an achievement percentage of 71.86%. Learners are in a low category had a pattern of learning difficulties in understanding about the language, understand the basic concepts, analyze the image, determine the y-axis and the axis s, define symbols, set the equation and the difficulty in calculating. Learners medium category with a percentage of 27.35% achievement patterns of learning difficulties in understanding the basic concepts, force projection, determine the y-axis and s, erroneously define symbols, and erred in the calculation. Learners higher category has a pattern of learning difficulties in analyzing the image and determines the y-axis and the axis s on the graphical representation.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to introduce the use of the PhET virtual laboratory and to identify students’ responses to the PhET-based virtual laboratory training in empowering students at SMA Negeri 1 Unaaha. The program also seeks to address the issue of limited science practicum facilities in the partner school. The study employed a descriptive quantitative design involving a single group of 23 participants from grades X to XII in the science stream. Participants took part in several sessions, including orientation, demonstration, and exploration of the Build an Atom and Circuit Construction Kit: DC simulations. Research data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 30 items covering six main indicators: conceptual understanding, motivation, activeness, interest, ability to operate PhET, and learning satisfaction. All questionnaire results were converted into percentages for each indicator. The analysis showed an average response rate of 86.67%, with details as follows: interest 92%, activeness 90%, motivation 88%, satisfaction 89%, operational ability 83%, and conceptual understanding 78%. These findings indicate a very positive acceptance and significant reinforcement in the affective, participatory, and technical skill aspects of the students.
