Abstract

The pandemic due to the Covid 19 virus has brought all kinds of learning processes into a new era of online and mobile learning.  One application that is widely used in online learning is WhatsApp.  WhatsApp is not only easy to use because it can be operated via a mobile phone or operated via a personal computer or laptop, but also has features that support the English learning process. This research aimed to determine the perception of 4th semester students majoring in Accounting towards learning English through WhatsApp application at STIE Gentiaras, Bandar Lampung. This research was a quantitative descriptive research.  The data was obtained using a questionnaire given to respondents online via Google Form.  The population and sample of this research were 34 4th semester students majoring in Accounting.  The data were analyzed using a Likert Scale and processed using SPSS 22. The results of the research were divided into 3 dimensions. However, 35.3% of students are doubt whether online learning is more comfortable than offline learning. From the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the perception of 4th semester students majoring in Accounting at STIE Gentiaras Bandar Lampung towards learning English through the Whatsapp application is positive.

Abstract

Salah satu tantangan terpenting yang akan dihadapi peserta didik selama proses belajarbahasa kedua adalah belajar kosa kata. Kosakata telah diakui sebagai hal yang penting untukpenggunaan bahasa di mana pengetahuan kosa kata yang tidak memadai tentang peserta didikmenyebabkan kesulitan dalam pembelajaran bahasa kedua. Jadi dalam hal belajar kosakata dalambahasa kedua, siswa perlu dididik dengan strategi pembelajaran kosa kata. Tujuan dari penelitian iniadalah untuk mengetahui strategi pembelajaran kosa kata bahasa Inggris yang diadopsi olehmahasiswa Akuntansi STIE Gentiaras, Bandar Lampung. Subjek penelitian adalah 22 mahasiswa padasemester ketiga. Tujuan kedua dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui distribusi strategipembelajaran kosakata yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa Akuntansi STIE Gentiaras, Bandar Lampung.Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner 25 item yang diadaptasi daritaksonomi Schmitt untuk strategi pembelajaran kosa kata. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakanfrekuensi, persentase, dan mean. Skor rata-rata menunjukkan distribusi strategi. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi Memori yang paling sering digunakan oleh siswa yangdianggap intermediate students dalam bahasa Inggris. Strategi kedua yang sering digunakan adalahstrategi Sosial (Discovery). Strategi ketiga yang sering digunakan adalah strategi Penentuan. Strategikeempat yang sering digunakan adalah strategi Metakognitif. Strategi kelima yang sering digunakanadalah strategi Kognitif. Sedangkan strategi yang paling sedikit digunakan adalah strategi Sosial(Konsolidasi) dengan skor rata-rata terendah. Namun, temuan ini akan menguntungkan guru untukmengembangkan pengajaran kosa kata yang efektif dan untuk memberi siswa strategi pembelajarankosa kata yang sukses.

Abstract

The objectives of this study is to determine the perceptions of Economic students towards online learning by using Learning Management System (LMS). This study used qualitative descriptive method. The data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to 30 students in Management study program after completing 8 meetings learning process. The result  of this study shows that (1) the use of Learning Management System (LMS) provides new experiences in online learning activities; (2) students can operate some features of Learning Management System (LMS) easily; (3) students use Learning Management System (LMS) because the learning process expects them to use it; (4) Learning Management System (LMS) is one of platform that can support online learning activities; (5) the use of Learning Management System (LMS) is because students classmates agree to use it; and (6) students can use Learning Management System (LMS) easily in carrying out online learning activities. Keywords : students, perceptions, Learning Management System (LMS)

Abstract

English is an international language that must be mastered by accounting students in Indonesia because they will need English to communicate in their future work. However, English is not their first language. English is their foreign language. They face a lot of difficulties in learning English. While they are learning accounting as their major, they also have to learn English which is related to their field of study. Therefore, effective English learning strategies will help accounting students to achieve their learning targets efficiently. This research aims to determine the English learning strategies used by accounting students. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative research. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed by using a Likert scale and processed by using SPSS 23. The sample used in this research was 56 respondents who were 4th and 6th semester of accounting students at a STIE in Lampung, who had studied English on campus for about 2 years. Based on their level of English ability, students are divided into 3 levels, namely Beginner, Intermediate, and Advance levels. The results of the research show that Accounting students who were at the Beginner level used the Metacognitive strategies the most, students at the Intermediate level used the Memory strategies the most, and students at the Advanced level used the Metacognitive strategies the most. Overall, Accounting students in this research used the Memory strategy the most with the highest mean score of 3.70. The second used strategy is Metacognitive strategy with a Mean score of 3.67. The third is Social strategy with a Mean score of 3.53. The fourth is Cognitive strategy with a Mean score of 3.41. The fifth is Compensation strategy with a Mean score of 3.37. While, the least used strategy by participants in learning English is Affective strategy, with the lowest Mean score of 3.33.
