Abstract

Response on Growth and Yield of Maize  (Zea mays L.) Hybrid and Nonhybrid Varieties by Phosphate Fertilizer and Bokashi Application.The goal of this research is to know the effect of phosphate fertilizer and bokashi to growth and yield maize  (Zea mays L.) hybrid and nonhybrid varieties.Therefore, a research had been conducted at experimental field of BBI Palawija, Tanjung Selamat, District of Deli Serdang (± 57 m asl) on May – August  2012. This research was arranged using Randomized Block Design, with the first factor is two maize varieties, Bisma and SHS 4. The second factor is concentrate of Phosphate fertilizer with three degrees, 2 g, 4 g and 6 g. The third factor is bokashi with two degrees, 0 g and 180 g, three replications was used to the treatments. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and continued with HSD. The results showed that varieties were significantly different to plant height, leaf number, male flowering time, female flowering time, harvesting time, kernel number per ear and yield of sample. Phosphate fertilizer  were  significantly effect to leaf number at 2 weeks planted, harvesting time, kernel number per ear and yield of sample. Bokashi were significantly effect to plant height (at 2, 3, 5 and 7 weeks planted), leaf number (at 2 and 5 weeks planted), male flowering time, female flowering time and number of kernel per ear. The combination between varieties and phosphate fertilizer were not significantly different to whole parameters. The combination between varieties and bokashi  were significantly different to plant height (at 7 and 8 weeks planted). The combination between phosphate fertilizer and bokashi  were significantly effect to plant height at 2 weeks planted and kernel number per ear.   Key words : maize, varieties,  phosphate fertilizer, bokashi

Abstract

The objective of this research were to study the influence of dormancy breaking methods onsugar palm seed viability. This research was conducted at screenhouse in Agriculture FacultyUniversity of North Sumatera, Medan (± 25 m asl) from June-September 2012, using completelyrandomized design with 8 treatments (control, water soaking 50ºC, 0.1%KNO 0.5%KNO and 0.1%HCl, 0.2%HCl, 0.3%HCl) with 4 replications. The results showed thadormancy breaking methods were significantly effect to axis embryo length (5 week after planted),germinating time, viability, plant height, diameter bar, numbers root, root length, fresh weight, dryweight and were not significantly to axis embryo length 4 WAP, normal sprout, abnormal sproutand the number  leaf extent.  3Keywords : dormancy, sugar palm. 3,  0.3%KNO3

Abstract

Tim Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) mengusulkan kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat (PPM) ini di Desa Bandar Masilam I atas dasar keterbatasan-keterbatasan yang dimilikinya. Desa ini terletak di bagian tengah Provinsi Sumatera Utara, sekitar 145 km dari kota Medan dan dapat ditempuh dengan kendaraan roda 2 dan roda 4. Kondisi jalan ke desa yang kurang baik menyebabkan waktu tempuh dari Medan dapat mencapai 4 jam. Letak desa diantara perkebunan kelapa sawit milik pemerintah maupun swasta. Masyarakat desa Bandar Masilam I sebagian besar petani dan sebagai buruh di perkebunan yang ada di sekitarnya. Sebagian masyarakat yang memiliki ladang dan lahan pekarangan telah memanfaatkan dengan menanami kelapa sawit. Kualitas sawit yang kurang baik menyebabkan harga jual menjadi tidak menentu, sehingga sebagian masyarakat sudah mencoba beralih ke komoditi kakao. Gapoktan Serumpun, kelompok tani Mandiri, Lestari dan Mekar Sari telah mencoba menanam kakao dengan bibit yang bersertifikat dan berkualitas. Sebagian bibit kakao bersertifikat berasal dari pengabdian pada masyarakat Universitas Sumatera Utara tahun 2017. Pendapatan masyarakat yang masih rendah sebagai salah satu kendala dalam budidaya kakao karena harus menunggu waktu panen yang cukup lama. Perlu dilakukan langkah untuk menambah pendapatan masyarakat dari lahan kakao yang mereka miliki. Tim pengabdian pada masyarakat USU mencoba memberikan solusi dengan cara memberikan bantuan bibit tanaman tumpangsari yang berkualitas dan bersertifikat untuk meningkatkan pendapatan petani/pekebun. Selain itu juga diberikan teknologi perawatan terhadap tanaman tumpangsari dan tanaman utama yang tepat kepada kelompok tani. Dari usaha yang dilakukan ini diharapkan kelompok tani yang menjadi mitra tim dari USU ini akan menjadi pelopor dalam menghasilkan produksi kakao yang berkualitas dan juga memperoleh pendapatan sampingan dari tanaman tumpangsari.

Abstract

AbstractMelon is a fruit plant that has a high nutritional value. A limited agricultural land encourages the application of alternatives planting method and utilizes local materials around the community as potential planting media towards resulting a high-yielding variety. One of the cultivation techniques is the use of the hydroponics system. The objective of this study is to determine the most suitable planting medium for melon varieties to be planted hydroponically. This research was conducted in the greenhouse at the sub-district of Medan Tuntungan in the city of Medan during May to August 2017. This research used Randomize Complete Block Design Factorial with 3 replications. The use of planting media consisted of charcoal husk, cocopeat, sawdust and sand; whereby the treatment of varieties consisted of Aramis F1, Amanta F1 and Red Aroma. The results showed that the best medium for hydroponics melon is charcoal husk highlighting significant result onto the plant height, number of leaves and fruit weight of crops, from the use of charcoal husk media.Keywords: hydroponic, soilless culture, melon, medium and variety

Abstract

An experiment to study heritability, general combining ability (GCA), and specific combining ability (SCA) of some traits in oil palm progeny was conducted at Kebun Surya Adi, PT. Bina Sawit Makmur, Sampoerna Agro, Ogan Komering Ilir, Sumatera Selatan, from July 2006 until September 2008.  The research was arranged in alpha design with two replications, 50 progenies and 12 palms for each replication, respectively. The results showed that broad sense heritability estimates were high for mesocarp to fruit, oil to fresh mesocarp, and  kernel to fruit content ratios, and β-carotene content; medium for bunch number and oil to bunch ratio; and low for fresh bunch and fruit to bunch ratio. The general combining ability (GCA) of bunch number, mesocarp to fruit, oil to fresh mesocarp, and kernel to fruit ratios and β-carotene content were highly significant. Similarly, the specific combining ability (SCA) of mesocarp to fruit, oil to fresh mesocarp, and kernel to fruit ratios and β-carotene content were also highly significant.   Key words:  Heritability, combining ability, Elaeis guineensis Jacq., alpha design, β-carotene
