Abstract

Caries is a common disease of the teeth, caused by lactic acid produced by bacteria plaque through fermentation of substrate rich of sucrose and glucose. This bacteria plaque especially Streptococcus mutans produced acid from substrate and in a period of time change the oral cavity environment to become more acidity (pH 5.2-5.5) and at the time, demineralization process beginning and caries occurred. Indonesian Health Survey in the year 2004, found that caries prevalence in Indonesia achieved 90.05%. Basic Health Research in Indonesia in the year 2007, found that prevalence of tooth decay achieved 43,4%. According to this fact caries must be treated and prevented. Preventing caries must be done in many ways, one of this is using an antiseptic mouth rinsing from plant extract that is ethanol extract of beluntas leaves to prevent plaque formation and accumulation in tooth surface. The aim of this study is to know that ethanol extract of beluntas leaves can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans. This is an experimental study with completely randomized with post test only control group design. Firstly, preparation of isolate of Streptococcus mutans and then preparation of ethanol extract of beluntas leaves in difference concentration, they are: 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. To know an inhibitory effect of this extract against the growth of Streptococcus mutans was used diffusion disk method. Data was analyzed by One Way Anova, continuing by Least Significant Difference test. Qualitative analysis was used Chi-Square. This study found that there is a significant difference between control group and ethanol extract of beluntas leaves in varying concentration, they are 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans with p = 0.000. This study also found that ethanol extract with 25% of concentration shown the same inhibitory effect with chlorhexidine 0,12% as positive control and the inhibitory effect raising following the increasing of concentration of extract. Chi-Square analysis shown that there is a significant correlation between an inhibitory effect with the increasing of concentration of extract with p = 0.000.The conclusion is Ethanol Extract of beluntas leaves in varying concentration, they are 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans. An advanced study need to determine minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of this extract and also the benefits of this extract as antiseptic mouth rinsing.

Abstract

Known as bad breath,  halitosis also called oral malodor is a bad breath that comes from air expelled by a person through the mouth. Halitosis is caused by local and systemic factors, but 90% of patients with halitosis due to local factors in the oral cavity, including at adolescents. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mouthwashes of ethanol extract of leaves beluntas to overcome halitosis. This is an experimental research with completely randomized with pre-post control group design. Samples are adolescents junior high school students. Data were analyzed by Wilcoxon test, Results shown that there is a  significance difference before and after rinsing in the groups and Friedman test shown that there is the significance difference  between groups. The results of the study shown that mean average  of mouth rinsing with ethanol extract of  beluntas leaves with 12.5% in concentration is 0.167 ± 0.408, with p = 0.038 or p 0.05, rinsing with ethanol extract of beluntas leaves  with 25% in concentration is  0.516 ± 0.408 , with p = 0.023 or p 0.05, mouth rinsing using  chlorhexidine 0,12%  shown that mean is 0.000 ± 0.000, with p = 0.020 or p 0.05. mouth rinsing using Base formula material shown that mean is 0,833 ± 0.408, with p = 0,157 or p 0.05. Analyze differences between groups to know the efectiveness of mouthwash treatment with Friedman test shown that  p value  = 0.000 or p0.05. The conclusion is rinsing with ethanol extract of beluntas leaves with 12.5% and 25% in concentration and  chlorhexidine 0,12%  can reduce halitosis significantly, but rinsing with  base formula of mouthwash can not be overcome halitosis significantly. Abstract

Dental amalgam is the oldest restorative materials and the use of this material dominates others. Until now there has been no filling material in other types that can rival the advantages of dental analgam because of its strength to resist chewing, Ieast expensive, its longevity in the oral cavity, does not need to be changed frequently and rarely cause secondary caries. But recent controversies arise in its use because of the content of mercary in dental amalgan. WHO continue to support the use of dental amalgam on anyone, but dental workers must be manage amalgam waste strictly in accordance with the rules issued the WHO.

Abstract

 Drug is a compound or product using for diagnostic, profilaxis or therapy to give benefits for patients but some times there is a side efect of this drug called  adverse drug reaction. Lidocaine is o local onaetheticum using by lopical or parenteral to block lhe nerve before minor surgery or tooth extraction. One of the side effect of this drug is presenting of type one of hypersensitivity reaction called anaphylaxis shock which is manifestation as smooth muscle spasm of respiratory and gastrointestinal tract, vasodilation, and increase of vascular vermiability.The importance way to manage an anaphylacted patients is: immediately repair the vital signs of patients, do against the mediator action, prevention the releasing of mediator agent and continuing to controle  the vital signs of patients. The conclusion is: the incidence of anaphylaxis shock caused by lidocaine is less than 1%, so the clinician must be ready to manage this incidence. Before using this drug clinician has to do good anameses before treatment, prepare all medicine and equipment to face this incidence, and ready to manage this case if happen.

Abstract

Dental health and periodontal tissue are very critical in adolescence. Teenage oral cavity problems are caused due to poor dental and oral hygiene and irregular eating patterns. Promotion of dental and oral health in adolescents can be done through counseling both individuals and group counseling, while those who have tartar problems need to get scaling. The purpose of this study is to improve oral hygiene and knowledge about the maintenance of oral and dental health of students of SMP No. 2 Marga in Tabanan Regency in 2018. Method of this study is one group pretest and posttest without control group design. Data was taken before an action and evaluating it after that. The result of this study showed that there is an increased in the average value of knowledge of students before and after getting counseling with an average value before counseling was equal to 57.74 with less criteria and after counseling increased to 72.02 with good criteria. The results of statistical analysis of the value of knowledge indicate that the increase is not significant. The average OHI-S value of students decreased from 2.36 to 1.29 with moderate criteria, and the results of statistical analysis showed that the decline was significant, which means that with scaling action there was a significant increase in students' dental and oral hygiene, so it can be concluded that scaling and counseling can improve dental and oral hygiene of students and increase knowledge about how to maintain dental and oral hygiene.
