Abstract

The writer analysis about meanings and illocutionary function as found in Indonesia tourism advertisements. The purpose of this research is to explain meanings and illocutionary function in Indonesia tourism advertisement based on Dell Hymes’s theory (1974) and Searle’s theory (1969).  The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative method. Technique used in collecting the data is non-observational technique in which the writer only acts as observer and proceed the research by downloading several advertisement about Indonesia tourism and classify words or phrases containing illocutionary function and meanings. On the other hand, method used to analyze the data is referential method. And other that, the data is concluded and displayed by using formal and informal method, where the result of analysis is explained in written form along with the pictures of the tourism advertisements.The results of the analysis are 11 data that have been found, the data are described based on the context of S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G Hymes (1974). Therefore, the 11 data contain an illocutionary function in each of the data, among them are 4 data having directive function, 4 data commissives function, 2 assertive function and 1 expressive function. Out of 11 data found, there are two function illocutionary functions that appeared, which are directive and commissives functions.Keywords: Pragmatics, Illocutionary Act, Context, Advertisements.

Abstract

This research studies about connotative meaning that found in journalistic language. The aims of this research are to explain the connotative meaning and to find out the kinds of connotative meaning of journalistic language on Tribunews online.com (Politics Issues) which the result concluded based on Leech’s (1981) and Parera’s (2004) theories.The method that used in this research is descriptive – qualitative method which is all data analyzed in non-statistical. The data is analyzed through referential technique which is the tool device is outside. In this research, the writer do not involved in the appearance the data, the writer only becomes observers and does the research by downloading and classify the news articles about politic which contain connotative meaning. The results of this research showed that each use of connotative meaning in writing journalistic language can stimulate the reader’s feeling, either stimulate positive or negative stimulation. The writer found mostly the using of connotative is negative connotation which can be seen there are 11 negative connotations and 7 positive connotations of 18 data consist of words and phrases. Keyword: Connotative Meaning, Journalistic Language, and Politic Issues.

Abstract

This research analyzes about the suffragettes’ story in campaigning women’s suffrage as reflected in Suffragette film. The purposes of this research are to explain bad treatments over women in male – dominated society, to describe the struggles of the suffragettes in suffragettes’ campaign pursuing the “votes for women” and the related history facts toward suffragettes’ campaign. In analyzing the research, the writer uses feminist literary criticism and some supporting theories. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is formed in words and pictures. The data is analyzed through four procedures: identifying, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. The results of this research are bad treatments over women in male – dominated society: women’s stereotyping, inequality in the workplace, and women’s subordination in marriage. Later, the writer finds out the struggle and the suffering of these women in campaigning women’s suffrage: consciousness – raising, peaceful campaign, and militant campaign; the last, the writer finds some related history facts toward suffragettes’ campaign as reflected in Suffragette film. Key words: Struggle, Suffering, Suffragette, Women’s suffrage campaign, Feminism, History

Abstract

This research analyzes about the moral values found in the film My sister Keeper by Nick Cassavatess. The purposes of this research are to describe kinds of moral values and to describe the good impacts of moral values found in the film My Sister’s Keeper by Nick Cassavatess. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative methods proposed by Creswell (1994) which uses descriptive technique to describe and to analyze the data. The data is analyzed through some ways: identifying, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. In this research, the writer used theory from Linda and Eyre’s (1997). The results of this research are some kinds of moral value such as honesty, bravery, peace ability, self discipline, respect, kind and friendly, confidence, love and affection, fair and loyalty. The writer also explains the good impact of moral values on the main characters as seen in the film My Sister’s Keeper that Sara Fitzgerald and Anna Fitzgerald has different moral values but after Kate died, the relationship between both of them be better. The most dominant kinds of moral values found in the film My Sister’s Keeper by Nick Cassavetes is Bravery.Key words: Moral Value, Good impact, My Sister’s Keeper

Abstract

This thesis analyzes about taboo and swear words in Deadpool movie using sociolinguistic approach. The purposes of this research are to analyze and explain types of taboo and swear words, functions of taboo and swear word, and reasons for using taboo and swear word. In analyzing the research, the writer uses sociolinguistic and some supporting theories. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is formed in wordsand pictures. The data is analyzed through four procedures: identifying, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. The results of this research are stated as follows. Firstly, four types of taboo words occur in the characters’ utterances in Deadpool movie; epithet, profanity, vulgarity, and obscenity. While for swear word, the type that dominant in the movie is private parts of body. In the function of taboo word, the writer only finds three from four functions. Then, for the reason of using taboo and swear word, the writer finds psychology and social class. Abstract

The research analyzes about “An Analysis of Positive and Negative Politeness Strategies used by Desi Anwar in CNN Indonesia INSIGHT with Desi Anwar on Trans TV.This research has two objectives, the first purpose is to find out and describe kinds of positive and negative politeness strategies used by Desi Anwar. The second one is to describe the factors influencing the positive and negative politeness strategies used by Desi Anwar. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method through applying three steps. The first one was by collecting data through three ways: (1) non participant technique, (2) download technique and (3) writing technique. Then, the writer uses an identity method in analyzing the data. Identity method is the method used to assess or that are beyond language, regardless of the language and does not become part of the language  (Sudaryanto,1993). The last, in presenting the data, the writer uses formal and informal method. Formal method is  the way to analyze the data with the symbol or the sign, informal method is the way to analyze the data with verbal word The results of the research. Then the factors influence the choice uses of politeness strategies used by Desi Anwar. There are three factors. They are occupation, social status and formality.  Key Words: Positive Politeness Strategy, Negative Politeness Strategy
