Abstract

The habit of watching English movies provides an opportunity to practice our listening skills, can practice our intonation pronunciation to be better then can learn accents in English get new vocabulary and gain cultural insight. The aim of this study is to find out: the correlation between students' habits in watching English movies and listening skills of students of English Education Study Program at Baturaja University. This study focused on finding and knowing the correlation between students' habits in watching English movies and listening skills of second semester students of Baturaja University. This type of research is quantitative. In collecting data, researchers used questionnaires and tests. The population of this study were students of English education study program of Baturaja University. The research sample is the second semester students of English education study program of Baturaja University. The sample of this study consisted of 26 students. The sampling method in this study was purposive sampling. The technique of collecting data on students' habits in watching English movies using a questionnaire. The technique of collecting data on listening skills using the English book by Jack C.Richards (2010). Data analysis technique using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The research findings show that there is a positive correlation between students' habits in watching English movies and English listening skills in the second semester of the English language education study program at Baturaja University where rxy = 0.801 is obtained. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is refused. Therefore, it can be concluded that students' habits in watching English movies and listening skills are in the very strong category.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the English vocabulary mastery of fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Martapura by using Canva animation as a teaching medium. Vocabulary mastery is essential for language learning; however, many elementary students struggle with conventional methods. This research applied a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The sample comprised 27 fifth-grade students selected through cluster random sampling. The treatment involved animated videos created with Canva focusing on vocabulary related to professions and workplaces. Data were collected using multiple-choice and matching tests, then analyzed using a paired sample t-test in SPSS. Findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, with mean scores increasing from 66.26 (pre-test) to 81.59 (post-test). The significance value was 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that Canva animation effectively enhanced students’ vocabulary acquisition. This study concludes that Canva animation provides an engaging and interactive learning experience that positively impacts young learners' vocabulary skills.

Abstract

Kegiatan One Day with Fun English merupakan bentuk pengabdian masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dasar Bahasa Inggris siswa sekolah dasar di wilayah pedesaan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di SDN 65 Penyandingan, Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu, Sumatera Selatan, pada 17 Juli 2025. Pemilihan topik ini dilandasi oleh masih rendahnya minat dan kemampuan siswa terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris akibat metode pembelajaran yang monoton dan kurang kontekstual. Oleh karena itu, pendekatan yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini bersifat interaktif dan menyenangkan, memadukan permainan edukatif, pemutaran video, diskusi, cari kata, dan praktik lisan. Metode yang diterapkan mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang aktif dan merangsang partisipasi siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada pemahaman siswa terhadap kosakata salam dan struktur perkenalan diri. Sebanyak 90% siswa mampu menjawab dan menggunakan salam dalam konteks yang tepat, dan sebagian besar menunjukkan keberanian memperkenalkan diri di depan kelas. Kegiatan ini juga menumbuhkan antusiasme baru terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di sekolah. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa metode pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa mampu meningkatkan pemahaman dan motivasi belajar mereka. Program ini dapat menjadi model bagi pelaksanaan pengajaran Bahasa Inggris dasar yang efektif dan aplikatif di sekolah dasar, khususnya di daerah yang memiliki keterbatasan akses dan media belajar.
