Muthmainnah D, Suryati NK, Mulyani YS.  2020.  Efforts to increase the value of anguillid eels products through community participation. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-8 Tahun 2020, Palembang 20 Oktober 2020. pp. xx. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Anguillid eel is famous and as a luxury food, but Indonesian people's knowledge about this fish is still very limited. The study is based on public participation in answering questions posed through a questionnaire using the google form. The questionnaire was distributed by digital technology, namely the WhatsApp social media application platform. The intended respondents are aged 16 - 65 years and scattered throughout Indonesia. Data collection activity was carried out for three days in July 2020. The questionnaire was divided into nine questions, consisting of four general questions about respondents, and five questions regarding the respondent's knowledge of anguillid eel. The collected data were grouped based on the province of the respondent's domicile and age class. Data is displayed in tabulated form and description. The responses were selected based on a complete answer and got 1,100 respondents. The results showed that many Indonesian people are familiar with anguillid eel and know that it has high nutritional value. However, their interest in consuming it is relatively low because of the fish be like a snake. For this reason, the effort to increase food processing into a valuable product will facilitate marketing. It is hoped that the anguillid eel product will increase the selling value and the preference for consuming it.

Abstract

The Malayan leaf fish or locally named as kepor (Pristolepis grooti) is one of important biotic components in Ranau Lake ecosystems. This study aimed to estimate population dynamic and exploitation rate of kepor in Ranau Lake, South Sumatera. The population parameters are estimated based on length frequency data which were collected in March to October 2013. Growth parameters and fishing mortality rates were calculated using FiSAT software package. The results showed that kepor’s growth was negative allometric, which tended to gain length faster than weight. Kepor population was dominated (42%) by individual length of 10.0 to 11.0 cm. Predicted length infinity (L) was 17.28 cm with high value of growth rates (K) of 1.4 year-1. The natural mortality rate (M) is 2.57 year-1, the fishing mortality rate (F) is 5.36 year-1 and total mortality rate (Z) is 7.93 year-1. The exploitation rate of Malayan leaf fish in Ranau Lake (E = 0.68 year-1) has passed the optimum score.

Abstract

Ayamaru lake is one of the lakes in West Papua categorized as karst lake. It is endowed with fish diversity in various ornamental fish and consumption fish with high economic value. Recently, a number of floating net cages is set up, and before causing serious damage, management for keeping the sustainability of fish resources, especially the endemic species, needs to be proposed.  This paper would contribute information on fish diversity and the water quality of Ayamaru Lake. The study was conducted in March, July, and November 2019 at Ayamaru Lake, Maybrat Regency, West Papua Province. The data were collected by conducting direct survey, interviewing the fishers, and the related institution, as well as searching the previous studies. Fish and water samples were taken from five stations. The results showed that 15 freshwater fishes were identified. The capture fisheries were practiced using the environment-friendly fishing gears. The water quality was still quite useful to support fish life. To reduce the threat to the presence of endemic fish in the lake, it needs to regulate the release of introduced species by the community, and control the escaped fish from the culture area.

Abstract

Koto Panjang Reservoir is one of the hydroelectric power plants in Indonesia, located in Kampar Regency, Riau Province. This paper aims to determine the water quality and tropic status of the Koto Panjang Reservoir. The research was carried out along the Koto Panjang Reservoir, covering the floating net cages area, inlet, outlet, and the center of the reservoir. Water samples were collected twice a year, February and September 2017. The results showed that the water quality of Koto Panjang reservoir is still within the tolerance range for the aquatic organisms' life, including fish. Based on the TSI analysis, the Koto Panjang Reservoir throphic status was categorized as eutrophic to heavy eutrophic. This study recommends that relocating floating net cages is necessary so that the nutrient load will not only be concentrated in one location. The efficiency of using the feed for floating net cages could minimize the waste.
