Abstract

This research-based community service program is entitled Implementation of a Web-based Digital Repository Information System at the Office of Sumbersekar Village. This activity is motivated by the need to conduct collaborative learning programs with the village for the implementation of research results. Activities oriented towards product implementation as a more comprehensive effort for the downstream process of research results in the service carried out by private universities that can be utilized by the community. Down streaming the results of this research is also the basis for managing collaborative learning activities for the Independent Learning (as suggested by the term MBKM) between Ma Chung University and the village. The issue of the village's desire to switch from a manual system to a computerized system is our focus. In the transition process from manual to computerized system, many information systems are needed, one of which is data digitization. Digitizing the repository allows centralized data so that the village staffs will find them easier to search when needed. Centralized storage media can support verification, namely the process of checking, confirming, and ensuring archives, ensuring the legality and integrity of related files and their relationship to the village. The repository information system implemented at the village office is expected to minimize archiving errors, facilitate data retrieval, avoid lost or damaged documents, and can anticipate data theft. This repository information system also facilitates the process of monitoring, controlling, as well as backing up data. Therefore, this community service has successfully implemented a repository information system for internal village documents.

Abstract

Translating poems is different from translating other kinds of documents such as scientific articles, textbooks, and the like, since the translator is expected not only to transfer the meaning, but also the original poems’ style and other important aspects. Related to it, the objective of this analysis is to identify the changing style and meaning of Sapardi Djoko Damono’s poems translated and compiled in an anthology entitled Before Dawn by John H. McGlynn. In this research, descriptive qualitative method and stylistic approach were utilized in analyzing the data, interpreting the resulting findings, and reporting the analysis. The focus of analysis is on the four compared literary devices of Indonesian and English versions of the selected poems, i.e. theme, imagery, diction, tone and mood. The results of analysis show that several changes on those four aspects were identified in the selected poems of the anthology. The changes mostly happen in their theme, tone, and mood. The poems’ style also slightly changed after being translated into English. They had simpler and more concise style of description, yet elegant and beautiful in structure and diction. Thus, the translation of those poems is proven to have several changes in terms of style and other literary devices so as to influence the poems’ meanings.

Abstract

Abstract

English language learning is an integral part of basic education in Indonesia today. However, not all students have equal opportunities to learn English. Elementary school children in Kucur village, in particular, are among those who lack sufficient access to learning English outside the classroom due to their family circumstances. Fortunately, there is a Learning Center called Cakrawangsa managed by the local youth organization (Karang Taruna) in Krajan hamlet, Kucur village. This center provides educational assistance to students. However, the center lacks permanent human resources to support students in learning English. In 2021, the community engagement team from Ma Chung University conducted once-a-week fun English learning sessions. Based on the evaluation results of the program, the participants greatly enjoyed the fun learning approach delivered by the Ma Chung University community engagement team. However, some students still struggled to memorize English vocabulary and pronounce it accurately. Therefore, the proposing team suggests a supplementary English learning program using an enjoyable method that has the potential to enhance vocabulary mastery. Based on conducted studies, the proposing team has developed a relevant board game tailored to the students' environment as an engaging and effective tool to support English language teaching.
