Abstract

The electric motor is one of the appliances that consume considerable energy. Therefore, the control method which can reduce energy consumption with better performance is needed. The purpose of this research is to minimize the energy consumption of the DC motor with maintaining the performance using Hybrid Fuzzy-PID. The input of the Fuzzy system is the error and power of the system. Where error is correlated with matric Q and power is correlated with matric R. Therefore, adjusting the fuzzy rule on error and power is like adjust matrices Q and R in LQR method. The proposed algorithm can reduce energy consumption. However, system response is slightly decrease shown from ISE (Integral Square Error). The energy reduction average is up to 5.58% while the average of ISE increment is up to 1.89%. The more speed variation in the system, the more energy can be saved by the proposed algorithm. While in terms of settling time, the proposed algorithm has the longest time due to higher computation time in the fuzzy system. This performance can be increased by tuning fuzzy rules. This algorithm offers a solution for a complex system which difficult to be modeled.

Abstract

A hydroelectric power plant is an electrical energy generator that utilizes water energy to drive a water turbine coupled to a generator. The main problem in hydroelectric power plants is the frequency and voltage fluctuations in the generator due to fluctuations in consumer loads. The purpose of this research is to make a prototype of the Electronic Load Controller (ELC) system at the Pico Hydropower Plant. The main part of ELC is the frequency sensor and gating system. The first part is made by a Zero Crossing Detector, which detects the generator frequency. The gating system was developed with TRIAC. The method used is the addition of a complement load which is controlled by delaying the TRIAC. Load control is intended to maintain the stability of the electrical energy produced by the generator. The PID algorithm is used in frequency control. The results of the frequency sensor accuracy test are 99.78%, and the precision is 99.99%. The ELC system can adjust the frequency automatically by setting the firing delay on the TRIAC to distribute unused power by consumer loads to complementary loads so that the load used remains stable. The ELC is tested with increasing and decreasing load. The proposed ELC gives a stable frequency at 50Hz. Whereas at the first test, the mean voltage is 183V, and in the second test is 182.17V.

Abstract

Electric motors have been widely applied in various equipment. One application is found in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). An electric motor speed control system that can balance the aircraft's position is one of the mandatory features that must be owned by the aircraft. The position balancer control also supports the Vertical Take-Off Landing (VTOL) system. This study's VTOL position control system uses Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) method with MATLAB Simulink and Arduino. ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inferences System) is used as a position control algorithm. The controller performance is compared with conventional PID and FLC (Fuzzy Logic Controller). The system is tested as an initial position variation and loading test. The experiment shows that HIL can help fast prototyping by faster changes in the controller algorithms and is easy to program. The result is varied in each experiment. In the ISE (Integral Square of Error) point of view, ANFIS is better than PID by 100 % and has a very small difference from FLC in the initial position test. ANFIS is better by 95.44% and 4.56% compared with PID and FLC in the loading test, respectively.

Abstract

Changes in temperature can affect the accuracy of the estimated SoC value based on voltage. In this study, fuzzy logic was implemented to correct the SoC estimation error caused by the influence of temperature. The system acquired data through sensors and then processed it using the Arduino microcontroller. Parameters in the form of voltage, temperature, and current were processed by Arduino with a fuzzy logic program which was uploaded into it and produced the output of the estimated SoC value. From the observations, it was found that the estimated SoC value from this method had better accuracy with a smaller error than the SoC estimation based on voltage alone. Using the RMSE method, the errors calculated in this method in the process of charging and discharging without running were 2.26 and 7.74, while the SoC estimation error based on voltage alone reached 4.88 and 12.8. In the discharging process with a running car, the SoC estimation results using fuzzy logic also showed accurate results. There was only 1% of SoC value increasing pattern during the discharging process, which the value trend should continue to decrease and should not be an increase. In addition, compared to the previous method applied to the same research object, namely the chemical equilibrium constant method, this method also showed more accurate results.

Abstract

The installation of aerodynamic devices, such as rear wings with the application of a Gurney flap, is very important to improve the performance of vehicles and can generate downforce and reduce slip when a car turns and brakes. The goal of this study was to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the addition of a rear wing using an Eppler 423 airfoil, which was applied with a Gurney flap featuring variations in the angle of attack and the height of the Gurney flap. The rear wing was mounted on the Ahmed body with a rear slant angle of 15°, which is similar to the configuration on a fastback type car. This research was conducted by 3D modeling through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation using ANSYS Student R18.2 by using ahmed body design. There are three variations in the angle of attack for the rear wing (0°, 7.5°, and 15°), as well as five variations in Gurney flap height of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2% for the chord-line length. In this study, the best variation was found at an angle of attack of 15⁰ with a height of 2% C. From this configuration improved CL/CD ratio by 25.36% when compared to the results without a Gurney flap.

Abstract

The main problem of using a Proportional Integral (PI) Controller in Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor speed control is tuning the PI’s parameter and its performance cannot adapt to the system behavior changes. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been chosen to optimize the tuning. Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is used to online tuning PI’s parameters to adapt to system conditions. Optimal adaptive PI, which combines the PSO method and FLC method to tune PI, is proposed. It was successfully implemented in the simulation environment. The test was carried out in three conditions: step responses, set-point changes, and disturbance rejection. The proposed algorithm is superior with no overshoot/undershoot. Whereas in terms of settling time is in between PI and PI-PSO. PI controller has the smallest control effort. However, the other parameter is the worst. PI-PSO is superior in terms of settling time and Integral of Absolute Error (IAE) except for the step response test. The proposed method has lower IAE and higher control effort by 78.73 % and 60 % compared to PI control. On the other hand, it has a higher IAE dan lower control effort by 11.82 % and 33.88 % compared to PI-PSO. Therefore, the optimal adaptive PI control can reduce energy consumption compared to optimal PI with better performance than PI control.
