Abstract

As a raw material for traditional medicine in Java and West Nusa Tenggara, almost all part of Strychnos lucida plants is believed that it is potential for medicine. For instance, the seeds and the wood of this plant are used as malarial, diarrhoea and muscle pain drugs. Considering a potential of S. lucida as a raw material for medicine, the propagation activity is important to prevent the extinction of this species in the future. Exploration of this study was started with determining seed trees as a source of genetic materials of S. lucida, fruit collection, and seedlings nursery. Collection of genetic materials was purposed to be an early step of the improvement of S. lucida. Exploration of seed trees used survey method and purposive sampling method is used to decide the location of seed trees. The result was the number of seeds that collected from 53 seed trees at 137.68 seeds. From germination process, it decided 30 seed trees which high of the percentage of sprouts. Ten months after weaning, the average of the percentage of seedlings at 98.22%, the average of height and diameter of seedlings of S. lucida at 14.22 cm and 2.03 mm respectively.

Abstract

AbstractNeem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) is one of alternative species for critical land rehabilitation in dry regions such as Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. Low soil nutrients and water resources are the limiting factors of critical land in dry regions. Enhancement of critical land carrying capacity to support neem growth through the use of organic fertilizer and hydrogel is needed. The research aims to determine the influence of organic fertilizer and hydrogel utilization on neem growth. The study design used a randomized block design with three replications. Research treatments used in the study were organic fertilizer + hydrogel (PH), organic fertilizer (P), hydrogel (H) and control, without organic fertilizer and hydrogel (K). Utilizations of organic fertilizer and hydrogel was able to increase neem growth and survival rate. Compared to control, the diameter and height growth of neem increased up to 1,2 and 1,3 times, respectively.  Live percentage of neem as the impact of organic fertilizer and hydrogel utilization was more than 70%. Growth and live percentage enhancement were supported by improvements of soil nutrients (N, P and K), C-organic, CEC, bacterial richness and soil moisture as the impact of organic fertilizer and hydrology treatments.AbstrakMimba (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) merupakan salah satu jenis yang dapat dikembangkan dalam rangka rehabilitasi lahan kritis di daerah kering. Lahan kritis di daerah kering pada umumnya mempunyai faktor pembatas rendahnya unsur hara dan sumberdaya air. Oleh sebab itu diperlukan upaya peningkatan daya dukung lahan untuk pertumbuhan mimba, yaitu dengan pemanfaatan pupuk organik dan hidrogel. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemanfaatan pupuk organik dan hidrogel dalam mendukung pertumbuhan mimba. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan yang diterapkan adalah pupuk organik+hidrogel (PH), pupuk organik (P), hidrogel (H) dan kontrol/tanpa pupuk organik dan hidrogel (K). Pemanfaatan pupuk organik atau dikombinasikan dengan hidrogel mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan kemampuan hidup mimba. Pertumbuhan diameter dan tinggi mampu ditingkatkan berturut-turut sampai dengan 1,2 kali dan 1,3 kali perlakuan kontrol, sedangkan kemampuan hidup mencapai lebih dari 70%. Peningkatan pertumbuhan dan kemampuan hidup ini didukung oleh peningkatan kualitas tanah sebagai dampak pemanfaatan pupuk organik dan hidrogel yaitu berupa peningkatan unsur hara makro (N, P dan K), C-organik, KTK, mikroorganisme dan kadar lengas tanah.
