Abstract

In the other manifestations, racism may refer to a very implicit condition and it called as a white savior narrative by an expert. In Green Book movie directed by Peter Farrelly’s depicts this phenomenon. The writer try tries to examine white savior phenomenon depicted inside the movie where there is the dominance of Tony lip as a white people who becomes a savior for black people, Don Shirley. Library research method is used as the research method of this study; meanwhile exponential approach is applied to focus its discussion by examining several of the intrinsic elements namely setting, character, and conflict. Meanwhile extrinsic approach, especially sociological approach, which discusses the white savior phenomenon inside the movie, is used in this study. The result of this discussion shows that there exist some white savior narrative phenomena reflected by Tony Lip, one of the main characters inside the movie.  Keywords: white savior; racial discrimination; racism In the other manifestations, racism may refer to a very implicit condition and it called as a white savior narrative by an expert. Abstract

Terlepas dari popularitas dan posisi politiknya yang kuat, bahasa Inggris sebagai basantara dalam pergaulan antar budaya lingkup internasional menyimpan potensi kesalahpahaman di antara para penuturnya. Potensi kesalahpahaman tersebut terdapat pada adanya ragam dialek bahasa Inggris yang cukup banyak. Artikel ini berupaya memaparkan apa saja macam dialek bahasa Inggris, perbedaan satu dan lainnya, dan bagaimana sub-aspek bahasa tersebut berpotensi memunculkan hambatan dalam komunikasi lintas budaya. Data pada artikel ini diambil dengan metode studi pustaka dan dianalisa dalam kerangka kualitatif dimana perilaku kebahasaan dan komunikasi dilihat sebagai fenomena kebudayaan. Hasil analisis menunjukan adanya perbedaan dialek bahasa Inggris berpotensi menghambat komunikasi lintas budaya karena masing-masing dapat memiliki aspek kebahasaan yang berbeda. Perbedaan tersebut dapat mencakup perbedaharaan kata, cara pengucapan, cara penulisan, tata bahasa, dan lain-lain.

Abstract

CNBC Indonesia revealed that until July 2020 there were 11 million Indonesian moviegoers who contributed approximately a total of 486 billion to the selling of the Avengers: End Game film tickets. The most recent Marvel Studios film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starting from May 11 to 15, 2022 grossed 15.7 billion dollars in the Indonesian market. The euphoria of the Indonesian moviegoers about these two films continues in various expressions. It is reflected in many conversations on social media. The mass production of the MCU film merchandise also indicates the wave of euphoria. Film industry has long been closely correlated with the constructs of popular culture. Commercialism, the mass acceptance, and the euphoria throughout the film release reflect the manifestations of popular culture. This article discusses the indicators suggesting that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a product of popular culture in Indonesia. Among the existing indicators are its success in targeting the Indonesian moviegoers through the media, commercialism, and the presence of Indonesian public euphoria.
