Abstract

Abstract

Background. Work engagement is a positive feeling, motivation, and work related to a psychological state characterized by enthusiasm, dedication, and appreciation. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of leadership, organizational climate, and the level of maturity of patient safety culture simultaneously or individually on nurses' work engagement. Method: This study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory causality research design. Collecting data was collected using a questionnaire and tested using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. Results: The results found that leadership, organizational climate, and the level of maturity of patient safety culture simultaneously and partially affected work engagement. However, leadership somewhat affects work engagement, while organizational climate and maturity level of patient safety culture does not affect work engagement. Conclusion and Recommendation: This research helps hospital management in developing a policy system for making regulations that can be started from the bottom up, with nurses being involved in easy decision-making as well as completing standard operating procedures in their work units

Abstract

Background: Hospital infections are one of the most important issues in patient safety aspects in hospitals. The standard precautions are designed to reduce the risk of infection with infectious diseases to be applied routinely in the care of the entire patient in the hospital. Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the association between standards of knowledge, attitudes, and motivation of nurses on compliance with hand hygiene. Method: A cross-sectional study was apllied in this study. We involved 45 professiona nurses who has working at inpatients room at Sentra Medika Hospital, Karawang, Indonesia. Result: There is a significant influence of knowledge of precaution standards, attitude and motivation of nurses work on the observance of performing hand hygiene simultaneously (p-value<0.05). Conclusion: The standard knowledge of precaution, attitude, and nurses’ motivation is crucial point to prevent the infection. The massive contribution of the influence of standard knowledge of precaution, attitude, and motivation of nurses to the observance of hand hygiene was 93.7%. Implication: For clinical practice need to regular training for all nurses to enhance knowledge, the need for management support in organizing and motivating nursing to follow basic infection prevention and control nurses (IPCN). Further study also needs to explore deeply the effect of those factors in qualitatively and develop some program to ensure hand hygiene implementation regularly implemented through hospital unit

Abstract

This research is based on the results of initial observations which indicate that several safety incident problems will occur in the year 2022. The aim of this research is to reveal empirically the influence of leadership style and cognitive attitudes on patient safety culture with coordination as a moderator. This type of research is quantitative with a cross sectional study design. The population used is nurses who work in inpatient installations. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling, with perm = calculation of the number of samples using Slovin's formula with an error rate of 10%, so that a total sample of 64 respondents was found. The data collection technique uses a questionnaire, and the analysis method uses three box method analysis and PLS-SEM with the help of the Smart-PLS program. The results of the analysis prove that leadership style, cognitive attitude and coordination simultaneously and partially influence patient safety culture, and cognitive attitude is the most dominant variable capable of improving patient safety culture. Coordination cannot moderate the influence of leadership style on patient safety culture, but coordination can weaken the influence of cognitive attitudes on patient safety culture.

Abstract

Neonates with low birth weight (LBW) have a higher risk of growth failure. To optimize their growth to target of 15-20 g/kg/d, neonates must receive adequate nutrition. Parenteral nutrition implementation is one of the approaches to provide adequate energy and nutrition to LBW neonates who can not tolerate enteral feeding. This study aims to investigate growth velocity in LBW neonates receiving parenteral nutrition in hospital settings and observe if the target growth velocity was achieved, also describes current parenteral nutrition practices in tertiary hospital settings. A retrospective observational study was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Kandou General Hospital, Manado. Sample in this study were neonates with birth weight <2500 g and received only parenteral nutrition for minimum 7 d. Daily weight measurement data was collected through medical records and parenteral nutrition regimens was collected through electronic prescriptions in the Pharmacy Department. Growth velocity was assessed using two parameters, gain weight velocity and change in weight for age Z-scores (WAZ). A total of 73 neonates were used as samples. The results demonstrated that only the extremely low birth weight (ELBW) group achieved the growth velocity recommendation during parenteral nutrition, 16.17 g/kg/d. All the neonates had a negative change of weight Z-scores indicated a declining growth rate during parenteral nutrition administration. We also found lipid emulsion initiation time was later and relatively low energy intake in parenteral nutrition compared to the recommendation. Vitamin as micronutrient was not yet added in parenteral nutrition regimens. Therefore, we suggest starting lipid emulsion from the first day of parenteral nutrition and add vitamin to parenteral nutrition regimen to optimize nutrient intake in order to improve growth velocity in LBW neonates during NICU stay.
