Abstract

This research was intended to identify the correlation between (1) creative thinking and science literacy and (2) scientific attitude and science literacy in the concept of environment pollution. Sample was consisted of 219 eleventh grade science student of MAN Medan that was taken by cluster random sampling method. This study was encompassed phases preparation, action, and post research. The instrument were included to scientific literacy test, creative thinking test and scientific attitude questionary. The results is indicated that (1) there is positive correlation between creative thinking and science literacy with r=0.433 (2) there is positive correlation between science attitude and science literacy with r=0.363. (3) there is positive correlation between creative thinking and science attitude with science literacy with r=0,59. This study implies that reading comprehension and science attitude have important role to improve science literacy skill.

Abstract

This type of research is ex post facto, the sampling technique used was stratified random sampling. This study aims to determine the level of environmental knowledge based on local wisdom on the pattern of fertilization, crop rotation and cleanliness of public fields in Karo and Deli Serdang. Data was collected using a questionnaire to calculate percentages, looking for differences in normal distribution of data using the formula Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) and also for the homogeneity of the data used by the formula of environmental knowledge Levene. Based on the results of ANOVA test a significant difference to the level of public knowledge (F = 4.41; P = 0.035). The level of knowledge of the agricultural environment in the communities in Karo, 24.91 ± 5.74 (SB) was significantly higher than the level of environmental knowledge of farming communities in Deli Serdang 23.74 ± 6.56. Based on the Anova test results on the data level of knowledge of the agricultural environment in the communities in Karo and Deli Serdang found that the location of agricultural land significant effect on the level of knowledge society. Based on Tukey test results showed that the level of environmental knowledge of peasant farming, 28.42 ± 4.01 was significantly higher than the level of environmental knowledge of primary school students, 18.40 ± 4.46, and the level of environmental knowledge of junior high school students, 22.27 ± 4, 51 but did not differ significantly with the level of environmental knowledge of high school students, 28.47 ± 4.54. Based on the results of Anova test of the influence of a significant interaction between the location of the farm to the knowledge society in Deli Serdang (F = 68.829; P = 0.000), for Karo (F = 28.558; P = 0.000). Based on Tukey test results can be seen that there are differences in the environmental knowledge owned by farmers, high school students, junior high school students, elementary students in Karo and Deli Serdang is significantly different overall. Knowledge society in terms of fertilization, farming communities have chosen manure and compost as a fertilizer major to restore soil fertility, but can not be separated from chemical fertilizers. Chemical fertilizer given to plants to see its development. The community also has been farming in rotation and in the hygiene field, to eradicate the weeds are still using herbicides.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of knowledge about mangrove ecosystems and attitudes towards the preservation of mangrove ecosystems in school students in Serdang Bedagai District. The level of knowledge of students is obtained through the tests of knowledge and questionnaires about the students' attitudes toward the preservation of mangrove ecosystems. The results showed that the level of knowledge of high school students in Serdang Bedagai Regency about mangrove ecosystem in general, including enough category with the highest level of knowledge is quite good (60.5%). However, their attitude towards conservation of mangrove ecosystem is categorized as very good (53.8%) and good (42.0%). This indicates that it is necessary to integrate material about mangrove ecosystem in Biology lesson for students who attended school on the East coast of Sumatra.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a Mini-Lab on ecology and environment topics based on scientific literacy and local potential of North Sumatera which is feasible empirically. Feasibility of learning material is obtained through validation of content experts, design expert, assessment from biology teacher and students' response to product that developed. This research and development used Borg and Gall model. However this study was limited to preliminary field testing only. Data validation and the questionnaire responses of teachers and students were analyzed descriptively qualitative. The result showed that according to content experts, the feasibility of product content was very good with average percentage score 93.32%. Feasibility of Mini-Lab’s design that has been developed based on design expert was also very good with a percentage score of 91.66%. Result of biology teacher assessment on Mini-Lab activity on ecology and environment topics for X grade of senior high school students was developed with 93.75% (very good). Students' response to the preliminary field testing individual testing is 80.35% (good), small group trial 84.52% (very good) and big group 91.38%.(very good).

Abstract

This research aims to: Find out the level of students and communities environmental knowledge towards river ecosystem based local wisdom (in)* lubuk larangan (part of the river which the fishes cannot be taken until the certain time)* basedon the level of education; Determine the level of environmental knowledge of students and communities towards river ecosystem based local wisdom lubuk larangan. The research used a quantitative descriptive research. The research sample as many as 158 students and 50 communities who live in Tambangan village Tambangan District, Madina Regency. The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire. Data analysis technique used Friedman-test. The final conclusion of the research: The level of education and location of the school influenced the level of knowledge about the environment of students based on local wisdom lubuk larangan basedon the level of education. The average of adult’s knowledge was higher than High School, Junior High and Elementary School students.

Abstract

This study aims to : (1) Determine the Level of Intelligence Ecological high school students based Local Wisdom in Utilizing And Preserving Forests Mangrove in the village of Jaring Halus of Sicanggang District Langkat;(2) Knowing Bioethics taught by Biology Teacher on high school students in Utilizing And Preserving mangrove forest in the village of Fine Jaring District of Sicanggang Langkat;(3) Knowing the Family Education taught parents to their children who are in the Village District of Jaring Fine Sicanggang Langka;(4) Knowing how students learn in Utilizing Local Wisdom and Preserving mangrove forest in the village of Fine Jaring District of Sicanggang Langkat . The approach used is a descriptive study non hypotheses using survey approach ( surveying Method). The research sample of 30 high school students who reside in the village of Jaring Fine Sicanggang District of Langkat . instrument used in this study is a test, questionnaire , interview and observation . Data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis with percentages . The final conclusion;(1) Ecological Intelligence Level High School Students Based Local Wisdom on average relatively good with an average score of ecological intelligence level of 22.5 % of high school students;(2) the ability of high school students Against Ecological Intelligence Bioethics Teachers Taught average quite well with the mean the ability of high school students average score of 50.7 %;(3) Family Education Level Taught His parents People Against the average is quite good with an average score of level of education was 35.8 % ;(4) knowledge in ecological intelligence level of high school students based on local wisdom on average relatively good with an average score of knowledge amounting to 25.56 % of high school students.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out how biology teacher paedogogical competency of senior high schools in Aceh Tamiang regency. This study involved all of the high schools in Aceh Tamiang  regency. The population in this studyconsist of 54 biology teachers in Aceh Tamiang regency. The sample of this study consist of 34 biology teachers. In this study, observation in high school class was done by using the instrument called Penilaian Kinerja Guru (PK Guru) which has been modified by researcher. This sutdy uses descriptif quantitatif research methode by using numbering and then the number is explained by using the sentences. The result of this study shows the paedogogical competency of biology teacher is  verygood including some aspect : 1)recognize the student’s characteristic is  very good (80,40%), 2) having the ability the theory of teaching learning process and technique is very good (78,36%) 3). curiculum developing  is very good (77,33%) 4) teaching learning process  is very good  (80,31% ), 5)knowing and developing student ability is very good (80,02%),6) communicating with the student’s is very good (83,09% )7) assessment and evaluation is very good(80,15%). There are some obstacles that biology teachers should face regarding teaching, teachers have not been able to developing syllabus from BSNP based on students characteristics and condition of local region. In addition the result of study on curiculum developing to design worksheets and module obtained are very low 63%, then in the aspects having the ability the theory of teaching learning process and technique the ability of teachers to invite students learn to recognize enviroment and provide oppurtunities for students to make observation and experiments were also obtained  a low value 74%.
