Abstract

The main purpose of treating tooth with fixed restoration (crown or bridge) is to keephealthy the remaining tooth and their surrounding tissue. In order to provide theserviceability fixed partial denture in patient’s mouth, so the periodontal tissue shouldbe preserved so natural teeth used as abutment can be also maintained.

Abstract

The use of fixed partial denture (FPD) nowdays has been very popular in our society. This is due to their smaller size, and more convenient to be used and fixed in themouth. The choice of nickel chromium (NiCr)as the metal component of FPD isbased on its character of corrosion proof, light, and hard. However, nickel containedcan be allergic. Allergic reactions reported, vary from oedema of tongue and lip, andmouth lining until anaphylaxis. These reactions are related to the pattern andcorrosion modes, followed by the release of metalic ions like nickel into the oralcavity. This depends not only on the composition of metal, but also the temperatureand pH of the oral cavity. Some studies have reported the use of NiCr might causeinflammation reaction of periodontal tissue.

Abstract

Denture treatment has the objective to enhance mastication and aesthetics function of patients. Recently, fixedpartial dentures, crowns or bridges are popular restoration in population. The materials usually used for therestoration are acrylic, porcelain, composite, and metal. Composite is used due to patient’s unability to comeseveral times. This case report will discuss the technique of making three unit bridge using composite materials. This composite restoration is used because the colors can be matched with natural tooth colors and completed inone visit

Abstract

Lesions caused by traumatic or unbalance occlusion, and overextension denture may occur in the majority ofpatients who use denture. This generally occurs in the use of unfit full dentures (FD) and in a long period of timecausing chronic irritation to mucosal tissues caused by the sharp and overextension of the FD flange. One of themost common tissue reaction caused by using unfit FD is inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia or more commonlyknown as the flabby ridge. This tissue reaction appears as fold of mucosal tissue, single or multiple, growexcessively around the sulcus mucobuccal, on the mucosa area unite gingiva and the cheek mucosa. Movement andgrowth of the tissue continuously causes problems in maintaining retention of FD. This article reports themanagement of denture-induced hyperplasia on maxilla edentulous of a 65-year old woman. Hyperplasia occurredfrom the left premolar to right premolar region of the maxilla. Excision was carried out through a 7 cm length tissueand then made for a conventional FD. As the result, patients are satisfied with the use of the new FD and did notfeel any further disruption to mucosal tissues

Abstract

Using crown as restoration to replace missing natural teeth is currently very popular. Successful restoration is therestoration that can last in a long time in the oral cavity. But sometimes there is a result of the use of restorativematerials that can’t be accepted by the body tissues. Therefore this study with a quasi experimental longitudinal designwith samples of 100 people user crown (porcelain, acrylic and metal crown). Prior using denture, the patient is given adental health education (DHE) and tartar cleaning and maintenance agreement. CPITN examination for signs ofinflammation (gingival discoloration, gingival bleeding, calculus and pocket depth) before and after the use of crown3, 6 and 12 months. Data were collected and analyzed by independent t-test. The results showed that there weresignificant differences in the results at month 3 to month 6, and month 6 to month 12 in acrylic and metal restoration(P <0.05). While the porcelain restoration is no significant difference in outcome between treatments at months 3, 6and 12 (P> 0.05). It was concluded that the porcelain restoration is a material that can be accepted by the body because it does not cause gingival inflammation.

Abstract

To overcome the failure of cement adhesive bond between tooth and metal surfaces, a variety of alternative treatmentsis applied to the metal and tooth surfaces. In order to overcome this disadvantage, this study deals with the treatmenton the metal surface in mesh form. This research examined different mesh sizes of 40, 60 and 80 mesh to the metalsurface treatment in shear bond strength of adhesive resin cement. 40 pairs of upper central incisors samples wereprepared in palatal surfaces with a thickness of 0.3 mm and made a pattern of blue wax. The samples were divided intofour groups; three mesh treatment groups (40, 60 and 80) and a control group (no mesh). In the treatment groups, amesh was positioned to the opposing surface of wax pattern to the tooth preparation surface, was casted with nickelchromiumalloy, attached to the palatal surface of the teeth with adhesive resin cement, immersed in artificial salivafor 24 hours at 37°C. Moreover, shear bond strength test and residual resin cement on the metal surface were tested inLaboratory of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA (p=0.05).Shear bond strength adherence of mesh plates 60 was found greater than 40, 80 and control group. Stereomicroscopeinspection of adhesive resin cement remaining on mesh 60 was similar than 40, but more than mesh 80 or controlgroup. It was concluded shear bond strength of adhesive resin cement to metal surfaces depends on the size of meshused, and shear bond strength of adhesive resin cement that still intact on the mesh surface.

Abstract

Roselle is a traditional medicinal herb that commonly found in Indonesia. Its ingredients are flavonoids, citric acid, malic acid, lactone, tartaric and antosian. Flavonoids are phenolic compounds that are fungistatic, fungisid andbacteriostatic. Extract of roselle extract has been observed by in vitro inhibit the formation of plaque in oral cavity. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of pasta of roselle flowers as denture cleansers in inhibiting plaqueformation. Five acrylic full dentures and concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% denture cleansers pasta roselleflowers were used. Plaque score was calculated before and after the denture used with an interval of one week. Datawere analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Wilcoxon rank test. Roselle flower toothpaste at a concentration of 2.5%,5%, 7.5% and 10% significantly inhibited plaque formation and there was an effect of different concentrations of pastato the number of plaques (p<0.05). It was concluded that paste of roselle flowers as denture cleaning inhibit theformation of plaque effectively with a minimum concentration was 2.5%, although the most effective concentration ofrosella flower paste as denture cleaning pastes was 10%

Abstract

An alternative treatment for extensive dental caries is using jacket crown. But this restoration could accumulate dentalplaque and can lead to gingivitis. Mouthwash is believed could reduce plaque. Nowadays, most of mouthwash inmarket contains alcohol so that not all individuals can use it. For that reason, we need a free of alcohol mouthwash. The use of medicinal plants from natural materials is increasingly widespread and will be a part of life. One type oftraditional medicinal plants are now widely consumed across the world is roselle flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.)because it cointains flavonoid that are fungistatic, fungicid, and bacteriostatic. This studywas aimed to determine theeffective concentration of roselle infusion ingredients to reduce the amount of plaque in acrylic crown. Five peopleusing acrylic crown were asked to rinse using 4 concentration of roselle infusion and distilled water as control for 30seconds, with time interval 1 week for each concentration. Examination of the amount of plaque was performed beforeand after rinsing. The results showed that mouthwash made from roselle infusion is able to reduce the amount ofplaque in acrylic crowns (P<0.05). It was concluded that concentration of 20% roselle mouthwash effectively reducingthe number of plaques at acrylic crown.
