Abstract

The use of natural materials in the world of health tends to increase every single year, including  in dentistry. Due to the increased of resistance to antibiotics, the development and new innovations to obtain a new antimicrobial agent. Some potential sources of plants have been studied. One of the natural plants is used as drinks, food, medicine and antimicrobial agent is Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn commonly known as Roselle. Several major Gram-negative bacteria are related to periodontal disease such as Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.gingivalis), The dominant species of Gram-positive including Streptococcus sanguis(S.sanguis). The purpose of this in vitro study is to evaluate the Roselle ethanol extract against P.gingivalis bacteria (Gram negative bacteria) and S. sanguis (Gram positive bacteria) with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%. The in vitro study of antibacterial effectiveness of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) ethanol extract on P.gingivalis and S. sanguis. Natrium Agar (NA) solution was poured into a glass plate which had previously been sterilized and then left in place until the medium solidified. P.gingivalis and S.sanguis bacterial cultures were inoculated with inscribed which had solidified. Then put paper disk which had previously been saturated with Roselle extract samples with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%, and the negative control at the surface of the medium (Ampicillin) and incubated for 1 day. Clear zone is formed then observed and measured. There are 24 samples, consisting of 12 samples  P.gingivalis and S.sanguis 12 samples, given intervention roselle flower extract with four types of concentrations to determine the minimum inhibitory consentration (MIC). The observations show that the extensive zone of inhibition concentration of 2.5% a broad zone of inhibition is the smallest among other concentration, both of S.sanguins and P.gingivalis. Meanwhile, the average increases the broad zones of inhibition of P.gingivalis followed by increasing concentrations of roselle flower extract, making it the largest broad zones of inhibition are shown at a concentration of 10%, However, the bacteria S.sanguins, shows that vast zone of greatest inhibition was found at a concentration of 7.5%. The results of this research showed that the ethanol extract of roselle effectively inhibits P. gingivalis as Gram-positive bacteria atconcentrations of 10% and S. sanguins at a concentration of 7.5%. Iit can be concluded that the ethanol extract of roselle flowers effective at inhibiting Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

Abstract

The treatment of oral cavity abnormality with diagnosis as hyperplasia fibromatousgingival, followed by immediate partial denture was purposed to provide esthetic ofhyperplasia protruded teeth. A case study was carried out to a 20 year-old female patientwith protrusive mobile anterior teeth and hyperplasia of the upper and lower jaw.Excision of gingival hyperplasia was made and the insertion of immediate partial dentureafter extraction of mobile and protrusive upper anterior teeth. Post-surgical and insertioncontrol were made after 24 hours, a week, and a month, and the gingival looks normally, esthetic and a better occlusion.

Abstract

The acrylic-resin crown is still used as a choice in the manufacture of artificial crown because it is easy in the procedure. However accumulation plaque around cervical of the acrylic-resin crown can lead to the occurrence of gingivitis. Some research found that degradation of ECM by MMP-8 and TIMP-1 as a inhibitor during gingivitis. Roselle as a herbal plant in the treatment began to increase. Roselle is rich in Phytochemical compound which has been shown to reduce inflammation. This research determined effectiveness of roselle extract gel 10% in reducing gingivitis in patients using acrylic-resin crown and related to changes in mRNA MMP-8/TIMP-1 gene expression ratio. The subjects were 9 patients who has gingivitis post resin-acrylic crown insertion and divided in to three groups treatment with roselle extract gel 10%, negative control (base gel), and positive control (Povidon iodine). GCF samples were taken in cervical area of acrylic-resin crown with paper strips before and seven days after application of roselle extract gel 10%. The change of ratio MMP-8 and TIMP-1 m RNA gene expression is tested using Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction. Paired- T test shows on negative control group (p=0,301, p<0,05) does not show any change ratio of mRNA MMP- 8/TIMP-1, on positive control, there is changing ratio but not significant(p =0,060). The treatment group shows significant change in ratio of mRNA MMP-8 /TIMP-1 gene expression(p=0,018) Conclusion, Extract Roselle gel 10% can reduce the gingivitis and change the ratio of MMP-8 / TIMP 1 mRNA.

Abstract

Pain is an unpleasant experience that can be a sensory experience that includes time, space and emotions that can be experi-rienced by every individual. One of the drugs used as an analgesic is paracetamol which is non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) class of drugs. Afrikan leaves (Vernonia amygdalina) were found to have an analgesic effect or relieve pain due to the presence of flavonoids, tannins and saponins. It can be concluded that the bioactive compounds contained in african leaf ex-tract have an analgesic effect. The analgesic effect is obtained from flavonoids which have activity similar to paracetamol, namely inhibiting the formation of inflammatory mediators through inhibition of the cyclooxygenase enzyme.
