Abstract

Objective: To analyze correlation between the denture use satisfactions and quality life of elderly and the relationship between gender and denture use satisfactionMaterial and Methods: This study is an observational analytical study. The sample of study is elderly population aged ≥50 years who live in Luwu Timur, South Sulawesi, the sample was to fill the questioner form based on OHIP-EDENT from WHO. The Chi-square test was used to analyze the relationship between gender and denture use satisfactions. Results: Spearman’s correlation test results for each domain OHIP-EDENT and OHIP-EDENT total showed a significant correlation of (p < 0.05) between denture use satisfaction and functional limitations, physical pain, psychological discomfort, and physical disability domain showed significant. Meanwhile, chi-squared test for denture use satisfactions to gender does not have a significant relationship. Conclusion: The denture use satisfactions has no correlation to quality of life of older adults. The gender dose not influence the satisfactions in denture use.

Abstract

Objective: Describes and compare the procedure of superior labial frenum frenectomies with conventional technique and incision below the clamp technique. Methods: Two female patient came to Departement of periodonsia, Unhas Dental Hospital to have frenectomies. The first patient was 28 year old with labialis superior frenulum reached attached gingiva, gingival recession 1-2 mm with calculus deposits, and referred to do frenectomy with Incision below the Clamp. While the second patient was 15 year old with labialis superior frenulum extend up to palatine papilla, central diastema and referred to do frenectomy with conventional technique. Results: The conventional techniques is done by engaged the frenum by a haemostat that inserted into the depth of the vestibule, and incision were placed on the upper and the under surface of haemostat, then followed by suturing the wound and periodontal pack. Insision below the clamp technique is done by placing a hemostat in position adjacent and parallel to the lip mucosa, and incision carried out below the clamp, then followed by suturing at the mucolabial fold and periodontal pack. Conclusions: Patients were very satisfied with the results that achieved. Technique Incision below the Clamp is an alternative treatment with good aesthetic and less bleeding during frenectomies by using a scalpel.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to explore the potential of brown algae (Padina sp) by measuring its compressive and tensile strength as a preparation step for making standardized dental impression materials from sodium alginate Padina sp.Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with one-shot case design. Brown algae were taken from the waters of Punaga and Puntondo, Takalar. Sodium alginate was extracted from algae then mixed with other compositions to form alginate impression material. Compressive and tensile were tested using the Point Load Test. Results: Compressive strength of impression material made of Padina sp was higher than that of standard impression material with pressure mean 0.011 Mpa and 0.009 Mpa. The mean tensile strength measurement was 0.003 Mpa.Conclusion: Mean compressive and tensile strength of impression material made of Padina sp were still relatively weak.
