Abstract

Waters that are presumably contaminated with heavy metals need to be observed to ensure the level of pollution to perform water restoration. This study was aimed to determine the status of water quality based on heavy metal contents. The survey method was employed in this study, and it was conducted in Pasuruan sea waters in different seasons; September 2019 represented the dry season, and April 2020 represented the rainy season. The water sampling stations were chosen by using purposive sampling in three sampling locations: the sea waters of Kraton, Lekok, and Nguling districts. The heavy metals and water quality parameters were analyzed by using Storet Index. The results indicated that the highest level of heavy metals was found in Lekok waters in September, consisting of Hg (1.22 mg/l), Cd (1.20 mg/l), and Pb (0.55 mg / l). The seawater of Nguling district had the lowest content in April, while Kraton's seawater was moderate. The water quality status based on the Storet Index suggested that the sea waters of Kraton, Lekok, and Nguling districts were classified as moderately polluted with a score of -16 to -24. The highest score was in September in the rainy season with a score of -24 and the score in April in the dry season was -16. It means that the score is increasing but still in the moderately polluted category. The measurement results of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and current velocity were in optimum results for aquatic organisms in the dry season or the rainy season. Regarding the water quality status in Pasuruan sea waters, it can be concluded that the heavy metal contents exceeded the quality standard set by the government. Therefore, improved management is required to prevent the deterioration of the pollution status in Pasuruan sea waters

Abstract

Air Terjun Kembar (Twin Waterfall) in Kampung Anyar, Banyuwangi is an alternative tourist travel destinations around the Ijen crater. This study aims to determine the history, attractions, eco-tourism potential, the level of customer satisfaction and further management for the area. The method is carried out by semi-structured interviews, questionnaires based on the satisfaction level of Sapta Pesona (standard value) and SWOT Analysis to the management. These results indicate that previously Kembar Waterfall Kampung Anyar was used for water resources. Then, in 2014 began to be managed by the group of people in Kampung Anyar. SWOT analysis shows that the management is good. In some aspect however it needs to be improved. Keywords: Ecotourism, Kampung Anyar, Sapta Pesona, SWOT.

Abstract

Genetic diversity of sea urchin are very high; there are no two organisms of the same species that are exactly alike. Dense aggregation of sea urchin is responsible for the destruction of marine algae communities on coral reef ecosystem. The purpose of this study is to identify the species and abundance of sea urchins at different environmental conditions, to analyze the influence of water conditions on the abundance of sea urchins and to analyze the role of sea urchin as water quality and abiotic environmental conditions bio-indicators. Data collection procedures carried out in three stage that are: assessment of the status of coral reefs, sea urchins sampling and analysis of data. Data condition of coral reefs is drawn using methods kick frequency. Urchin abundance data retrieval is done by timed swims or snorkeling and species of sea urchins seen through genetic approach, by DNA sequencing. Identify the types of sea urchins in this study conducted with the gene fragment sequences Cytochrome Oxidase subunit I (COI). Stages isolation of DNA-based procedures uses Gsync DNA Extraction Kit from Geneaid. The species that identify in this study is Diadema setosum. Location with high environmental pressures has a low quality of coral reef ecosystems and has a great abundance of sea urchins. This proves that the water environmental conditions greatly affect the abundance/density of sea urchins. In locations with relatively low environmental stress or a sheltered environment the abundance of sea urchins is low.
