Abstract

The theory of speech act in pragmatics occurs in a communication between speakers and addressees and this is inseparable from the speaking situation during the conversation. Communication at present is not only limited to direct communication between speakers and addressees but also happens globally such as on social media via Youtube, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Social media has a huge influence in people's lives, especially teenagers. Departing from the above problems, the FBK Community Service team provides training and understanding of hate speech to students of class XI at SMA Nurul Hasanah Medan, located on Jalan Jamin Ginting Medan with the aim that they can understand hate speech both from linguistic perspectives and laws on social media. The findings show that students of class XI SMA Nurul Hasanah Medan understand hate speech, especially on social media and also understand the consequences of hate speech on social media and from this understanding it is hoped that social media users can behave and act in accordance with norms and values of communication ethics.

Abstract

Maimun Palace is a deli royal heritage palace which was led by Sultan Al-Rasyid Perkasa Alamsyah in 1973. Maimun Palace is a tourist destination not only because of its old age but also its unique interior design that combines elements of deli cultural heritage.  Currently Maimun Palace has become a tourist destination for both local and foreign tourists.  As one of the most important aspects of tourism, youth tourism needs to be equipped with vocabulary skills in English.  This training aims to train and improve the English vocabulary skills of tourist youth, and to make the interaction of youth between foreign tourists and local communities so that the community and youths must be able to understand vocabulary so that they can carry out communication in English.  .  Therefore, the purpose of this activity is to increase the ability of English vocabulary for teenagers to support tourism activities, understand some vocabulary in the tourist environment to optimize the basic English skills possessed by teenagers and practitioners in communicating both orally and in writing.  The method used in this training is learning to increase the number of vocabulary in communicative language concepts.

Abstract

This training is carried out to provide understanding and knowledge to the society, especially tour guides who are at Istana Maimun. The purpose of this community service is training for the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). In addition, it provides understanding and knowledge of the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). It is hoped that the results of this training can provide new understanding and knowledge about the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language) to other people. This activity is carried out using lecture and discussion methods. The lecture method is used in the process of delivering training/socialization materials. The expected output targets of this activity are: 1) Tour guides know what the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language) is, 2) Tour guides understand the types of questions tested in the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language), 3 ) Tour guides understand the tips and tricks for doing the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language) questions, and 4) Tour guides are able to work on the questions tested in the TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language).
