Abstract

This research entitled lecturers’ competency from issues to the facts. The inconsistency of the quality of teaching and learning English became the first consideration to investigate the lecturers’ competency at English study program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. The researcher used descriptive quantitative design in investigating lecturers’ competency. To collect the data, questionnaires of lecturers’ competency were distributed to all lecturers. To analyze the data, the frequency score and percentage system were statistically operated. After collecting and analyzing the data, it was found that the pedagogical competency at 2.87 (closer to enough), Professional competency at 2.81 (closer to enough), Self-competency at 2.87(closer to enough) and Social competency at 3.31 (Enough). Finally, it could be concluded that lecturers’ competency in teaching English as a foreign language at English study program of University of Pasir Pengaraian were at average 2.96, categorized as Enough level of competency.

Abstract

This article is concerned with the study of student teachers’ pre-teaching performance at class VI/A English department at university of Pasir Pengaraian in academic year 2014. The aspects explored in the study involved students’ activities in the learning of TEFL II course. The research employed the descriptive quantitative design. The instruments used in collecting the data were the performance test and classroom. The data analysis showed the presentation and analysis of data. The findings showed that the the student teacher’s pre-teaching performance were in the level of fair, especially on the performance of opening the lesson, comprehension of learning materials, teaching and learning activities and evaluation.

Abstract

The basic components of micro teaching skill is the basic skill to students who are going to be a teacher. Micro teaching is a course to practice teaching in faculty of teacher training and education.The research was done at third years students in 4 Department of FKIP in Universitas pasir pengaraian ( English Study Program, Math, Physic and Biology) .The methodology of this research is qualitative research. The researcher uses the teacher instrumentation assessments (IPKG 2). From the analysis, it can be concluded that the basic components of micro teaching skill at third years students of FKIP in Universitas Pasir Pengaraian is in good category or in 68,75%.

Abstract

This Research was classroom action research (CAR) to overcome the existing problem on the field and explained whether the KWL strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension in Narrative Text. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 8 Rambah. There were two cycles consisted of four meetings: plan, action, obvservation and reflection. Researcher used four instruments in collecting data: test, observation checklist, field notes and interview. Analyzed by qualitatively and quantitatively. The finding showed an improvement in students’ reading comprehension of narrative text the average students’ score in basic test 42%, cycle 1 was 50,8% and cycle 2 was 72,51%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the types of students’ error in using personal pronouns in writing narrative text. The indicators are: (1) Omission, (2) Addition, (3) Selection, (4) Ordering. By those indicators, the researcher would know the kinds of error that made by the students in using personal pronouns in writing narrative text. This was a qualitative descriptive study. The population was tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Rambah Samo. The samples were 29 student, that taken by using random sampling technique. The instrument was writing test. From the finding of the study, it can be seen in the high frequency error was made by students was error of selection with 75 errors, which means 60 % of error total. The next most error made by the students was error of ordering with 23 errors or 19 %. The students made 20 errors of error of omission or 16 %. They also made 6 errors of addition or 5 %. As a result, it can be concluded that the students still have problem in using personal pronouns in writing narrative text.
