Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know the effect of peer editing technique toward writing skill in narrative text of the first year students at University of Pasir Pengaraian Hilir. The method in this research was experimental research, pre test and post test design. The participants of the study are 41 students. The results of this research are there was significant effect in post test with using peer editing technique. (To) value was 5.679 and (Tt) value was 2.020. It showed that (To) was higher than (Tt). The research concludes that there was significant effect to the students of Xb.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze students’ need to learn English phonology at fifth semester students of English Study Program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. Phonology is one of lessons that difficult to learn, because the students must concentrate and focus to learn it. To make students more understand in learning English phonology, the researcher need to know what students feeling before studying phonology and what their wish in learning it. Because of that reason, the researcher tried to analyze students’ need in English phonology. There were two types of instrument to gather the data; questionnaire and interview. The total students in this research are 42 students, which consist of 22 students in class A, and 20 students in class B. The researcher analyzed students answer based on interview. The finding was students need lecturer to be patient to teach them in English phonology, the students need the lecturer explain topic per topic in slowly until they understood, the students need more practice or exercise than theory or discussion.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the eight grades students’ motivation in learning English after given rewards at the SMPN 3 Rambah. The students’ was low motivation in learning English. This research was design a descriptive qualitative research and there were 2 instruments were used in collecting the data. There are 2 instruments that is questionnaire and interview. The researcher used three classes. There were 60 samples joined in the research. The purpose of giving the questionnaire was to find out the students motivation in learning English after given reward and interview given was purposed to find out the students’ opinion of their English learning. The result of the research in the questionnaire showed that from 60samples of the research, there were 57 students can be classified have strong motivation in learning English after given rewards and there 3 students can be classified have fair motivation. The calculation was taken from the students’ answer in questionnaire and converted to the numeric score on Likert scale. Based on the finding of this research, the questionnaire score and classify it. The researcher found that the average of students questionnaire score was 78,8 and it means that their motivation averagely can be classified Good categories.

Abstract

Anxiety is uncomfortable feeling that someone feels in facing any situation. Anxiety is common problem in speaking especially to learners.The purpose of the research was to find out the factors and the types of students’ anxiety in speaking at second semester students of English study program at University of Pasir Pengaraian. This research was design a descriptive qualitative research and instrument that the researcher used in collecting the data is questionnaire. The sample of the research were 15students. The finding result of the research showed, there were 14 students classified into state anxiety, and 1 students classified into trait anxiety. So the most of second semester students were classified into state anxiety.This result was taken from open-ended questions.
