Abstract

This research is to know how the local guides’ speaking skills are after joining the class with a communicative approach and cycles. this  research is categorized into classroom action research. Research employed role play as approach to teaching strategy. There were thirteen local guides as student with different educational background in the class. In conducting research, researcher was accompanied an English teacher as collaborator.  To face learners’ obstacles in speaking English, teachers have to teach using strategy. It tells the technique to teach speaking to the local guides in Kulon Progo with role play as activity in learning process. This research needs two cycles that include five steps such as planning, acting, observing, implementing and reflecting in each cycle. Those cycles shows improvement in speaking English. Learners also show their confident in speaking English in front of their friends. The result of the research is local guides are interested in role play and being confident to speak up. Some speaking aspects are well developed such as pronunciation, grammar, fluency, interactive communication and vocabulary. The pre-test shows score 37.46. It raises to be 40,54 that seen from cycle 1. So that there is improvement of score 3.08. Then, cycle I obtains 40,54 and cycle II obtains 45,925 so that from cycle I to cycle II there is an improvement score 5,385. Meanwhile cycle II and cycle III shows significant improvement score 4,925 from obtained score 45,925 to 50,85. It can be concluded that each cycle shows good improvement. Those scored components are seen from the score and collaborator’s report. The role is interesting in teaching speaking that enhances local guides’ speaking skill

Abstract

This research is aimed at finding out the suitable writing material for deaf students. This research belongs to research and development. The participants of this research were the eleventh graders of SLB Muhammadiyah Dekso Kalibawang of semester 1 in academic year 2013/2014 which consisted of two students. The instruments used in collecting data were questionnaires. The questionnaires were used in the need analysis, material evaluation and students’ response. The data were analyzed descriptively by using percentage. Based on the need analysis, it was found out that students’ need is suitable with material for writing. In developing  syllabus, existing syllabus must be added with some exercises. In developing material is in the form of hand out. The hand out is writing material for the deaf students. The developed material is for the first semester academic year of 2013/2014. It consists of  three  units, five topics and nineteen activities. In the material evaluation from two experts, the developed materials facilitate the deaf students to write. Based on the student’s response, the developed material is appropriate with their English level competence.

Abstract

This research is to face learners’ obstacles in speaking English. Researcher used an approach to teach speaking skill. Role play is strategy done by researcher that can be used to overcome 13 local guides English communication problem. This research belongs to classroom action research that uses the technique to teach speaking to the local guides in Kulon Progo by using role play as activity in learning process. This research needed two cycles that include. That was started by conducting pre-test. There were five steps in conducting action research such as planning, acting, observing, implementing and reflecting in each cycle. Those cycles showed local guides’ improvement in speaking English. Learners also showed their improvement in speaking English that can be seen by five speaking acpects. Five aspects of speaking which well improved such as fluency, dictation, pronunciation, intonation and grammar. The improvement was analized by comparing different score between pre-test and two upcoming cycles. The increase of speaking aspect score was seen from the comparion of pre-test to the cycle 1. It was obtained 3.08. While the obtained score of comparion between cycle 1 and cycle 2 was 5,385. It showed improvement score from each cycle of local guides English communication.

Abstract

Assistance with human resources in the Garongan Tourism Village. Despite the abundance of potential tourism-related activities, the management of Garongan Tourism Village still has several flaws. The Yogyakarta AMPTA Tourism College, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, has established the Tourism Village Assistance Program in response to some current issues. The work programs that have been effectively put into practice include: (1) integrated tourist village FGD; (2) integrated tourism product packaging training; (3) integrated tour package sales training; (4) preparation of storytelling and edutrip guides for Garongan tourism village; (5) coaching for the preparation of tour packages; (6) training and coaching on digital tourism village marketing; (7) coaching of tourism village financial management; (8) tourism village scouting training; (9) Digitization of tour packages with audio-visual catalogues; (10) Special culinary training based on processed fish and salak; and (11) Training on making souvenirs with the theme of Garongan tourism village.

Abstract

Museums are buildings used as storage, maintenance, security and utilization of historical relics, art and science for permanent exhibition to the public (tourists) as a tourist attraction that provides educational values to tourists or visitors. To meet the needs of visitors in the museum, competent tour guides are needed as parties who provide information or provide education about the collections owned by the museum being visited. Therefore, the purpose of this journal is to review how tourists learn in museums through tour guides and what the role of tour guides as educators is, namely guiding tourists, providing information, introducing new things from the museum to visitors, informing visit regulations about things that can and cannot be done while in the museum and maintaining quality service. To fulfill the criteria of tour guides and maintain the quality and service to visitors, it is necessary to have continuous training for tour guides. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method that aims to analyze and describe how visitors or tourists gain understanding or knowledge about the museum through the role of tour guides and what kind of tour guides educate visitors. Researchers use several methods library data collection methods, reading and recording, and processing research materials. In this study, researchers found that tour guides have an important role as educators to educate tourists from the beginning to the end of a visit to the museum.
