Abstract

The purposes of this research are to describe and compare the effectiveness of the imple mentation of scientific approach using problem based learning and learning cycle 5E model viewed from achievement spiritual attitudes, social attitudes, knowledge, and skills of students on polyhedral topic in Junior High School Grade VIII. This research is quasi experiment using nonequivalent (pre-test and post-test) group design. Population in this research are all of students grade VIII Junior High School 12 Padang. The sample was grade VIII4 and VIII5. The instruments used are questionnaires spiritual attitude and social attitude, knowledge and skill test. The results of the research are as follows the implementation of scientific approach with problem based learning and learning cycle 5E model is effective viewed from the achievement spiritual attitudes, social attitudes and knowledge of students, but not effective viewed from students skill, and there are no differences between the effectiveness of the implementation of scientific approach using problem based learning and learning cycle 5E model.

Abstract

Participation is an important factor in achieving maximum learning in achieving learning goals. However, the level of student participation in learning is still relatively low. Therefore, efforts need to be made in the form of innovation in learning to increase student participation in learning, such as implementing LSLC based on the Jigsaw learning model. This research is a descriptive study with a sample of class XI IPS 1 SMA Adabiah 2 Padang. This research aims to see the impact of LSLC on student participation in learning using the Jigsaw learning model. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that for each meeting there was a significant increase in student participation. So it can be concluded that learning using LSLC and the Jigsaw learning model has a positive impact on student participation in learning.

Abstract

Background of this research was the fact that there are still many students of class VIII SMP N 24 Padang who has learning obstacles in the process of learning mathematics, especially in the field of geometry. The learning obstacles experienced by students were identified through a preliminary study and analysis of learning obstacle identification tests on area of cubes and cuboids, and interviews with class teachers and students. The types of learning obstacles in this study are ontogenic obstacles, didactical obstacles, and epistemological obstacles. The design of this study used a descriptive qualitative research method with learning obstacle identification test instruments on area of cubes and cuboids, and interviews. The subjects of this study were class VIII students of SMP N 24 Padang who took the test and interviews, and mathematics teachers as interview respondents. The results of this study identified learning obstacles consisting of ontogenic obstacles, didactical obstacles, and epistemological obstacles
