Abstract

Agroforestry is a method and system of land management involving the simultaneous cultivation of farm crops and trees Land use under forest stands in the community has not been optimal. This research aims to study the growth, yield and qualitatively secondary metabolite content and find the best microclimate based on stand of different forest trees of  Tiwai (Eleutherine americana L. Merr.). The research was carried out at research field of Agrotechnology Innovation Centre at Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, Yogyakarta and laboratory of agriculture production, Institute of Agriculture “INTAN” Yogyakarta. Treatments are  combinations of forest tree stand i.e. gaharu, teak, mahogany, and control, and plant spacing factors i.e. 25 x 20 cm and 20 x 20 cm, and arranged in split block design with 3 replications.  Plant height, leaf numbers, bulb weight and productivity were observed and analyzed statistically using analysis of variance approach. The treatment effects are studied by mean comparisons using Duncan Multiple Range Test  with α = 5%. Qualitative data such as flavonoid content were descriptively analyzed. The result showed that there are statistically different growth and yield of Tiwai grown under forest tree stands. Tiwai which was grown under teak and gaharu with density 20 x 20 cm yielded similar productivity with control which is 271 – 331 g/m2 and equal to 578 – 883 kg boulbs/ha. There is different brewed colors from dark red to deep purplish Red. Types of tiwai secondary metabolite were dependent upon tree stands.  At control, and under mahogany and gaharu, more apigenin was observed, whereas  kaempferol and lutenoid were found under teak and gaharu. The tiwai cultivation under tree stands probably provided benefit with the 1.5 B/C ratio in the agroforestry system.

Abstract

Increasing agricultural productivity is a key focus in supporting food security and the welfare of farmers.  One of the challenges in managing agricultural land in Bendung Village is the unpredictable availability of water and the reliance on traditional irrigation methods.  This often hampers the optimization of agricultural yields. This community service aims to apply an appropriate technology in the form of a sprinkler irrigation system as an innovative solution to improve the efficiency of irrigating agricultural land in Bendung Village. The sprinkler system used is supported by a renewable energy source in the form of a Solar Power Plant (PLTS), so that it is more environmentally friendly and sustainable. The methods used included socialization and training of farmers regarding the use and maintenance of sprinkler systems, as well as monitoring the impact of the application of this technology on crop productivity. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in water usage and time efficiency. The irrigation process using the old system took about 2-3 hours of watering labor on a 600 m2 field, while using sprinklers, farmers only need about 30 minutes. The implementation of the sprinkler system not only reduces operational costs but also makes water use more efficient and lowers total costs significantly. With a total water saving of about 41.6%, this technology provides long-term financial benefits to farmers in Bendung Village. Additionally, the system's relatively easy maintenance also adds value to the farm's sustainability and efficiency. This renewable energy-based sprinkler system can be a model for effective and sustainable irrigation solutions for other agricultural areas

Abstract

Response of Moringa (Moringa oleifera L.) Seedlings to Pruning of Main Stems and Planting MediaAbstract.Opportunities for increasing moringa planting need to be developed considering that moringa has a high nutritional value. Planting moringa plants with seeds has the advantage of having taproots so that they are more resistant to drought, in order to obtain strong branches and many leaves, pruning is needed on the main stem. This study aims to determine the interaction and obtain a combination of pruning and optimum planting media for the growth of moringa seedlings. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 2 factors, the first factor is the difference in pruning, namely not pruned and 15 cm pruning, the second factor is the difference in planting media, namely: soil; soil and husks; soil and compost; soil + husks + compost. Data were processed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that moringa seedlings that were pruned produced more leaves and branches, the diameter of the seedling stem was larger and the plants were shorter than seedlings without pruning. Soil planting media provided the best growth and yield of moringa plants.
