Abstract

Title : Using Tea Extract and Vermicompost on Caisim (Brassica juncea L.) Cultivation. The aim of the research is to know the effect of tea extract and vermicompost on yield and growth of caisim (Brassica juncea L.). The research was conducted in February-March 2009 in Screen House in Agriculture Faculty Sebelas Maret University at 96 meter above sea level. The research was arranged on factorial design based on Complete Randomize Design. The treatment of the research was tea extract with concentration 0, 10, 20, and 30 g/L and dosage vermicompost 0, 4, 8 and 12 ton/acre (equal 0, 10, 20 and 30 g/crop). Each treatment was repeated 3 times, and each of them restating 2 crop unit. Data was analysized by analysis of variants with test of 0.05, if there was significant continued with test of Duncan 0.05. Research variable were plant height, leaf number, fresh and shoot biomass weight, fresh and biomass root weight, root volume, chlorophyll content, leaf area and root shoot ratio. Result of research show there is interaction between tea extract and vermicompost on shoot root ratio. Shoot root ratio increase by increasing tea extract concentration on caisim without vermicompost and with vermicompost 8 ton/acre. Application tea extract do not give significantly effect on growth and yield of caisim. Dose vermicompost 8 ton/acre gave the highest of average fresh weight and leaf number. Abstract

Application of Zn, beside as an essential nutrient for plants, is known to increase the resistance of plants during drought condition. The purpose of the research was to study the effect of ZnSO4 application on root and leaf character of tomato plants in drought conditions. Research was arranged in factorial randomized completely block design. The treatment consists of ZnSO4 application methods (soil and foliar), ZnS04 dosage (0, 40 and 60 mg Zn kg-1 and cultivars ('Permata’ F1 and 'Tyrana’ F1). Watering intervals of every two and eight days were applied, representing non-stress and drought stress conditions during the growth period of the plant. The results showed that the all response of character roots and leaves of the tomato did not show interaction among the three factors. Root biomass, root length and root surface area of tomato plants depend on the method of application and ZnSO4 dosage. Soil application increased root biomass and root surface area. Root biomass of ‘Permata’ and ‘Tyrana’ showed differences in responses to dosage of ZnSO4. Leaf area responses in both cultivars ‘Permata’ and ‘Tyrana’ showed the same pattern of the ZnSO4 dosage. Response of leaf area ratio at each stage of tomato growth on ZnSO4 application was different.

Abstract

Title : The Growth and Quality of Anthurium hookeri  on Various Boron Application. Anthurium hookeri is one of ornamental plants having high economical and aesthetic value, however they growth slowly. For accelerate their growth can be done by giving accurate nutrient and appropriate concentration. Boron is one of essential nutrient for plant having important role in cell wall and translocation carbohydrate. The aim of this research is to study the effect of applying boron on growth of A. hookeri and to find out the appropriate boron concentration for growth of A. hookeri. The research was arranged based on Split Plot Design with 2 factors and 4 replicates. The main factor was the kind of A. hookeri (green and red) and the sub plot was boron concentration with 4 levels e.i (0; 0,3; 0,6; and 0,9 ppm). The data observation ware analyzed by variance analysis and continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test in level 95 %. The research showed that there was no interaction between the kinds of A. hookeri and boron concentration. Application boron 0,3 ppm increase plant height, number of leaf, and width of leaf red A. hookeri, application boron 0,9 ppm rise plant height, number of leaf, width and quality of the green A. hookeri.
