Abstract

This study was aimed to find out the growth rate of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) cultured with biofloc technology, and to understand the dynamic of several water quality parameters during culture period. This experiment was conducted in the Laboratory of Aquaculture Technology, FPIK, UNSRAT.  Several substances were added to stimulate the development of biofloc, which were: 0,3 mL of EM-4 containing probiotic-bacteria Lactobacillus casei dan Saccharomyces cerevisiae.; 15 mL of mollases;  0,5 g of  yeast commonly used to ferment soybean ; 12 g of dolomite.    60 seeds of  nile tilapia,  with an individual weight of 6 g, were stocked in each container.   Fish were fed at a dose of 3% of the total biomass/day at the first week, and the dose was decreased  down to 1% of the total biomass per day afterwards.  Fish were weighed at day-1, day-15 and day-30.   The change of water color and the density of the floc was consistently evaluated using imhoff-cone. The initial weight of the tested individual fish were 6,00 g. After 15 days, the weight was increased to 7,37g, and at the end of the experiment the individual fish weighed 11,47 g. Hence, the absolut growth of the tested fish was 5,47g,  the specific growth rate was 91% and the daily growth rate was 2,11%.    The density of flok reached 9,5 mL/L at the beginning of the second week, which was categorized as very high density.   The density of floc then was decreased to 4 mL/L.   The density of the floc was maintained around 5 mL/L during the experiment. The temperature of the medium was at the range of 26-300C.  The level of ammonia was 0,03mg/L and  the level of  nitrite fluctuated between 0,15-3mg/L, which is normal and safe for biofloc system.  The level of nitrate was 4-55 mg/L, which was quite high for biofloc system but not harmful for fish.   Keywords:  Biofloc, Nile-Tilapia, growth, floc-density

Abstract

The purppuse of research was to study the feasibility of fish culture technically and economically.  Primary data was gathered by interview to fish farmer and secondary data was obtained from related references.  Data analyzed were break even point and foof conversion ratio.  Water source of pond was spring water and the pond depth was 0.50 – 1.75 m.  Juveniles were obtained fron Tatelu Freshwater Aquaculture Board  and other palces.  Fish was fedr pellet for 3-4 months. Pond conctruction did not match the criteria . Fish farmer did not used capital from bank and farmers did not use book account in running the business. Food conversion ratio was 2.5 – 3.5. The price of pellet was Rp. 8.500/kg ang fish price was Rp. 25.000/kg.  Fish farmer dit not receive enough profit in running fish culture   Keywords:  feasibility study, pond construction, fish culture, Matungkas Village

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the  applied technology and the production value of the aquaculture activities in the waters of  Lake Tondano and to identify factors influencing aquaculture production in Tondano lake. Data collected  consisted of primary and  sekunder data.  Primary data  were collected by conducting a survey to fish-farmers as respondents around the lake Tondano.  Operational aquaculture data were obtained  by interviewing the fish farmers and by observation.  Secondary data were collected from various  institution  such as Minahasa  Fisheries  Office  ,  Office of  Village Head and Fish-farmer  Group  Administrative Centre.  Collected data were  descriptively analyzed  and presented in the form of tabulation and various model of diagram.  Fluctuated data in aquacultural production value  and the number of  operated  KJT  during the periood of  2001 to  2014 was analysed by using linear regression  and correlation. The aquacultral production value  of the lake Tondano in  2014 was  estimated only 1227,3 tons /year.  The number of operated  KJT  only remained 1203 units.  The production value decreased consistently  from 2003 to 2014.   Statistical analysis showed that during  2001-2014 there was a reduction about 1.236 ton every year in aquacultural production, and  607 units of operated KJT.  There was a  very strong correlation  between  time  (year) and the  the aquacultural production, and also between  time (year) and  the number  of  operated KJT.  There were 3 important  factors  influencing the aquacultural production value of lake Tondano, which were: environmental, technical and economic factor.   However, the primary factor  was  ‘economic’ factor.  The  ‘very high price’ of the fish formulated diet  and  the "very low price”  of  the produced fish were the main causes of the problem.   The fish farmers could not afford the invesment and operational cost.   Environmental degradation of  Lake Tondano waters  also significantly  influenced the operation of aquacultural activities.   Keywords:  Production, technology, aquaculture, Lake Tondano

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of fermented horse manure media for the propagation of Alona sp. The research took place at the Aquaculture Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. The study used an experimental method with 12 experimental units, consisting of treatment A: fermented horse manure with EM4 solution, treatment B: unfermented horse manure, treatment C: yeast (5 ppm), and treatment D: water. Each experimental unit was inoculated at the initial stage by 10 Alona sp. which is placed in a glass jar with a volume of 500 ml. The water quality of Alona sp. culture media was measured including temperature, DO, and pH. The results of propagation of Alona sp. according to the analysis of variance, it was found that the differences in treatment between the culture media had a significant effect. The results of the BNJ follow-up test showed that treatment A was significantly different from treatments B and D, but not significantly different from treatment C. Water quality measurements on day 6 to day 15 for treatments A, B, C, and D ranged from temperature, 26.3-27.3°C, DO 6.5-7.3 ppm and pH 6.2-6.5.
