Abstract

Abstract: Aquatic Aerobic Activity, Land Based Activity, Motor Control. Cerebral palsy (CP) is characterized by sensorimotor disorders of motor control (gross motors and fine motor) as well as posture. Aquatic aerobic activity is designed to give sensorimotor stimulation through a series of activities undertaken in the pool. Indicators of sensorimotor function improvement in CP can be evaluated through changes in the motion control capabilities, basic motor control in the setting of functional posture, and the ability to perform functional activities. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of aerobic aquatic activity towards the development of motor abilities, basic motor control, and occupational performance skills in children with CP. The study design was performed according to quasi-experimental design with control group pretest-posttest design. The study population was patients with CP that received rehabilitation treatment in occupational therapy unit YPAC Surakarta. Sampling using quota sampling with a sample size of 30 people. Analysis of data using paired samples t-test, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney using SPSS version 16.0. The average value of the change scores Bobath Chart and GMFM post-intervention aquatic aerobic activity amounted to 4.07 and 7.33, while the post-intervention land-based activity amounted to 0.80 and 1.53. The test results paired sample t-test for Bobath Chart scores and GMFM scores before and after intervention showed p-value <0.05. The results of the comparative analysis showed a significant difference (p-value <0.05) between the changes Bobath Chart scores and GMFM scores between the intervention group aquatic aerobic activity with land-based activity. Performance and satisfaction scores increased by 0.13 and 0.47 (aquatic aerobic activity) and 0.07 & 0.27 (land-based activity). Aquatic Aerobic Activity results in significant effect towards basic motor control, gross motor and occupational performance skills in children with CP.

Abstract

Inclusive education has become increasingly common worldwide, even in higher education; however, the corresponding practical support in Indonesia is limited. Herein, a support website was developed for postsecondary students with learning difficulties vis-à-vis campus life in Indonesia. Web contents and information for supporting such students were developed from an occupational therapy perspective, including considering web accessibility and university lecturers’ opinion in Indonesia. After the feedback on the pre-launched version administered to current students in Indonesia, this new tool had a good level of satisfaction regarding the provision of support to such students’ academic activities on campus. However, information volume and display organization may require improvements in the future. Furthermore, the website could not only facilitate support for postsecondary students with learning difficulties in connection to the awareness of this area, which is limited in Indonesia, but also elucidate the role of occupational therapists.

Abstract

Background: The punk community is a subculture that is often viewed as contrary to the dominant culture. Society often misunderstands this community, constructing it as a negative and marginalized group. Occupational therapy strives to be more diverse, fair, and inclusive in order to strengthen practitioners' contributions to healthy and engaged communities. This study aims to explore the forms and meanings of occupation in the punk community through an occupational perspective. Methods: This study uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. Respondents were selected through purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis used ethnographic thematic methods, while data validity was tested through source triangulation. Results: Thematic ethnographic analysis produced two main themes related to the exploration of occupation in the punk community. The first theme concerns the forms of occupation in the punk community, which include anti-mainstream, egalitarian, and DIY (Do-It-Yourself) aspects. The second theme discusses the meaning of occupation in the punk community, which includes working as a means of survival, occupation as self-expression, occupation as a form of contribution and concern for others, and participation in occupation to improve welfare and a sense of belonging. Conclusion: The forms and meanings of occupation in the punk community are very different from those in society at large. The beliefs and environment of the punk community shape unique occupational choices compared to the wider community. The results of this study emphasize the importance of expanding the scope of occupational therapy practices to be more inclusive.

Abstract

Background: Children with special needs frequently encounter delays in sensory processing, motor coordination, and visual-perceptual skills, which substantially limit their ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) independently. In this context, families—acting as primary caregivers—hold a pivotal role in fostering these developmental domains through consistent home-based stimulation. Purpose : This community engagement program aimed to strengthen family capacity by providing structured training designed to enhance their knowledge, confidence, and hands-on abilities in delivering sensory, motor, and visualperceptual stimulation, as well as supporting children’s ADL performance. Method: The intervention was conducted at Wedoro Inclusive Elementary School in East Java over a period of four weeks. Results: The program led to notable improvements in parental knowledge and motivation. Participants expressed increased confidence in applying stimulation techniques at home. While no quantitative developmental outcomes in children were measured, qualitative feedback indicated improved engagement and participation of children in daily home activities. Conclusion: Family-centered training within a community-based setting effectively builds parental competence in supporting children with special needs. This model provides a practical link between clinical recommendations and everyday home routines, promoting sustainable developmental support at the family level.
