Abstract

This paper qualitatively examines the roles and symbolism of mangupa in Sipirok wedding ceremony. Results revealed that the presence of piramanuk na dihobolan ( boiling eggs), manuk (chicken), hambeng ( goat meat), and horbo (buffalo meat) in the Sipirok wedding ceremony bring a symbolic meaning for the hosts, bridegroom, their family and guests. Symbolizing of fertility, appreciation, sweet life to the bridegroom, blessing, creating strong bonding, good relationships between guests and marriage declaration are some of the significant on the present those mangupa in the  Sipirok wedding. Hence, it is vital for Sipirok especially the young generation to appreciate and preserved these practices.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji serta mengambangkan kebudayaan-kebudayaan Melayu yang ada dikota Tanjungbalai salah satunya Tradisi lisan yaitu Sinandong Gubang. Sinandong adalah kesenian seni suara yang diperdengarkan dengan cara menyanyikan syair-syair dalam bait-bait pantun yang disusun dalam dialek khas Tanjung Balai. Seiring berkembangnya zaman, kearifan lokal sinandong Gubang semakin tergerus zaman hal ini tentu saja disebabkan oleh berbagai faktor. Menyikapi hal ini, penanaman kembali nilai-nilai kearifan lokal sangat dubutuhkan. Khususnya dikalangan remaja tepatnya disekolah SMP IT Darul Fiqri Tanjungbalai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, yaitu dengan menggunakan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan studi literature dari berbagai sumber buku serta mengimplementasikannya kedalam pemanfaatan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dalam cerita Sinandong Gubang terhadap siswa/siswi di SMP IT Darul Fikri Tanjung Balai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa eksistensi sinandong gubang sebagai tradisi Melayu mengalami kemunduran dengan ditunjukkan dengan sedikitnya orang yang mengetahui tradisi daerah nya sendiri, sehingga diperlukan penanaman kembali nilai-nilai kearifan lokal kebudayaan Melayu khususnya sinandong Gubang dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

The objectives of this experimental research were to find out whether: (1)The students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using Read, Ask, Put, and Paraphrasing (RAPP) strategy was higher than that taught by using Direct, Reading Thinking, Active (DRTA) strategy, (2) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension with high self-regulation was higher than that low self-regulation, and (3) there was an interaction between teaching strategies and self-regulation on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The population of this research was the students in grade XII of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Sipirok of 2016/2017 academic year. There were 63 students as samples of this research by applying cluster random sampling technique. The instruments of this research were reading comprehension test and questionnaire sheet. The data were analyzed using ANOVA at the level of significant α = 0.05. The result of the data analysis proved that: (1) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using RAPP strategy was higher than the students were taught by using DRTA strategy (2) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension with high self-regulation was higher than the students were given low self-regulation, (3) there was interaction between teaching strategies and self-regulation. The students’ achievement in reading comprehension is influenced by teaching strategies and self-regulation. Keywords: teaching strategies, self-regulation, reading comprehension
