Abstract

Code-Switching is one of the phenomenon of language in society where the people use more than one language alternately in their utterances. It can occur spontaneously but some people may do it on purpose. This study was focused on analyzing the functions of Indonesian-English Code-Switching as found in Najwa Shihab and Agnes Mo conversation on Catatan Najwa Youtube Channel. The data source in this research was taken from one of the videos entitled “Najwa Shihab X Agnes Mo”. For the analysis, the researcher used the theory proposed by Gumperz (1982) to identify the functions of the code-switching. In collecting the data, this study used direct observation method and descriptive qualitative method was applied in analysing the data. The data that had been analysed were presented by using simple table and picture as well as descriptively. The result found that from the six functions of code-switching, only five were found, namely: Quotation (7 data) Interjection (23 data), Reiteration (27 data), Message Qualification (25 data), and Personalization vs. Objectification (3 data). The function that was not found is Addressee Specification.

Abstract

Language is very important for every people, by using language people can communicate with each other in daily life. There are a lot of studies that discuss language and one of them is swear words. Swear words is a word or phrase that's generally considered blasphemous, vulgar, or otherwise offensive. These are also called bad words, obscenities, expletives, dirty words, profanities. The act of using a swear word is known as swearing. It can be divided into six types; Excretion, Death, Body Function Term, Religious Matter, Mother in Law and Sex Term. The article entitled "Analysis of the Types and Functions of Swear Words Used in the PewDiePie video, aims to identify the types of swearing in the PewDiePie video entitled" This is Bad. To analyze the data, the main theory used in this article is the theory of swear words proposed by Wardhaugh. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to present the data descriptively and qualitatively to support the data found in PewDiePie video. The results of the research on cursing found four types of curses, namely the term excretion, the term gender, the term body function, and the term death. In addition, the swear word function used in PewDiePie videos is primarily to express resentment, anger, and contempt for an object or subject while playing a game.

Abstract

This research focused on analysing the derivational process of suffixation found in the novel entitled “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” Observation and qualitative method were applied in this study. Observation method used in collecting the data. The steps of colleting the data were first, reading the novel carefully, second finding and listing all complex words that contains derivational suffixes, then identifying and classifying the derivational suffixes. Meanwhile, qualitative method used to analysing the data. There were two steps in analysing the data, namely identifying and describing the data by using some words and presented by using tree diagram. This research used theory from Plag (2002) and supported by theory from McCharty (2002). The result of this research shows that there are some derivational suffixes found in the data source. They are suffixes –ment, -ion/-ation, -er/or, -ance, -ist, -ism, -ing, -hood, -ity, -(e)ry, -ant, -ful, -ship, -ize, -able/-ible, -less, -al/-ial/-ual, -ive/-ative, -ish, -ic, -ary, -ous, ed, and –ly. These suffixes are divided into four classes of suffixation namely, noun maker, verb maker, adjective maker and adverb maker.

Abstract

Abstract Feminism is manifested worldwide and it is represented by various institutions committed to activity on behalf of women's rights and interests. This study used maleficent 2 mistress of evil movie by Robert Stromberg. In this movie there is nine main character there are Maleficent, Aurora, Prince Phillip, Diaval, Queen Ingrith, King John, Conall, and Borra. This study has two aims: (1) to identify the types of feminism depicted in the movie through the main characters, and (2) to analyze how the characters died fighting for their rights. The study was based on Tong's (1998) theory, and the data has been collected by watching the movie repeatedly. To observe the main characters' conversation, a descriptive study and textual analysis have been used. According to the findings of this study, liberal feminism is the most often portrayed type of feminism. The main characters in the story struggled to gain independence and their rights. Maleficent and Aurora were successful in uniting two kingdoms and bringing the moors and people together in peace and happiness. This study used the documentation method to collect the data and the method used in analyzing data was qualitative.

Abstract

This study is entitled “An Analysis Types of Slang Word Found in Green Day Song Lyric Album”. The aim of this study is to identify the types of slang words that are found in the song lyrics of Green Day in the five albums: “1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours” (1990), “Kerplunk !”(1991), “Dookie” (1994), “Father Of All..” (2020), and the last album “American Idiot” (2004). The method being used in this study is descriptive qualitative method and the technique is observation technique. The theory used was found in Kipfer and Chapman (2007). The study concludes that the secondary slang words are the only type that were found in the Green Day song lyrics
